Chapter 183 Margaret, I'm Here
William jumped out of the chopper without a second thought, floating down like a feather.
This was his second time skydiving. Last time, he had jumped with Margaret.
Even though it was a close call back then, with both of them barely making it out alive, William had been cool as a cucumber and even kinda happy. 'Cause Margaret was right there with him. Margaret had told him she was down for his chase and wanted to be with him. From that moment on, they were ride or die.
But this time, William was a mess of worry, anxiety, and fear, every nerve on edge with a sinking feeling that something might happen to Margaret. He was terrified he might never see her again.
William squinted, staring down at the endless white below. 'Margaret, where are you? I'm coming! Hang in there!'
A few minutes later, William touched down in the forest. He packed up his chute and tossed it aside.
Juniper landed right after him, but she lost her balance and hit the ground hard. William rushed over, helped her up, and asked, "Juniper, you good?"
Juniper got up, brushed the snow off, and nodded. "I'm fine. Let's go find Margaret."
"Alright," William said, scanning the area. They were on the trail from the small village to Crystal Peak. Based on when Margaret went into the mountains, she should've come through here. But the heavy snow had buried everything, leaving no tracks.
"We'll head towards Crystal Peak. Margaret should be around here," William said after thinking for a bit.
"Got it." Juniper agreed with his plan.
"The snowstorm's mostly over. Peter and the rescue team will be here soon," William added, his voice steady and determined. "As long as we don't miss any spots, we'll find Margaret."
William's words gave Juniper a boost. He was right; more people meant better chances. Once the storm cleared, everyone would join the search. If they checked everywhere, they'd find Margaret!
"Margaret! Margaret! Where are you?" William and Juniper yelled as they moved forward, "Margaret, answer us!"
William desperately hoped Margaret could hear them and shout back. But all they got was their own echoes.
The avalanche had left snow up to Juniper's thighs, making every step a struggle. She gritted her teeth and kept going, following William.
William glanced back and saw Juniper struggling. He frowned and said, "Juniper, step in my tracks. It'll be easier."
Juniper nodded and did as he said, finding it much better.
Seeing William so worried about Margaret, she couldn't understand how things had gotten so messed up between them.
"Juniper, you okay?" William asked, noticing she had zoned out and stopped.
"I'm good. Let's keep moving." Juniper snapped out of it, worried she was slowing them down, and picked up the pace.
They trudged on for what felt like forever, and it was almost dark, but still no sign of Margaret.
"Mr. Fisher, do you think something happened to Margaret?" Juniper's voice was shaky, on the verge of tears. She was really scared.
They couldn't spot her from the helicopter, and now they had combed through the path Margaret should've taken, but still found nothing, it was bad news. Unless Margaret didn't take this path, she must've been buried by the snow. Otherwise, they would've found something by now.
Juniper didn't want to think about it.
"No! Margaret's gonna be fine!" William's face was pale, but his voice was rock solid. His expression was colder and more serious than ever.
A wave of helplessness washed over William. He had done everything he could, but there was still no sign of Margaret. But no matter how tough it got, he wasn't giving up! Because William was dead sure that Margaret was still alive! She had to be out there, waiting for him to save her.
"Let's head back. Maybe Margaret didn't take this path." William frowned.
"But this is the only way to Crystal Peak," Juniper said, almost breaking down. "Margaret went to find Pryce; she had to take this path."
"Maybe she got lost and went another way." William's brow furrowed.
"No way. Margaret's super methodical. She had a compass; she wouldn't get lost or take another path." Juniper shook her head.
They had searched this path thoroughly and found no trace of Margaret. So where could she be? Even though William knew everything Juniper said was true, he just couldn't believe that Margaret had been buried by the snow.
"Let's search again!" William said coldly. No matter what, he had to find Margaret today!
Juniper nodded and followed William. As they were heading back, they ran into Peter leading a big group of people.
William rushed over. "Any news about Margaret?"
Peter shook his head sadly. "No."
"Even if we have to turn over the whole mountain, we will find Margaret!" William's eyes burned with determination.
"William, it's getting dark. Why don't we go back, rest for a bit, and come back to search for Ms. Scott tomorrow?" Angel, who had come with Peter, said, shivering.
This place was brutal, with harsh conditions and freezing cold. If it weren't for William, Angel wouldn't want to stay here another second.
"Angel, why are you here too?" William was a bit surprised to see her.
Angel walked up to William, shivering and leaning against him, speaking softly, "William, I'm worried about you and Ms. Scott."
Juniper couldn't stand Angel's fake concern and urged, "Mr. Fisher, now that we have more people, let's hurry and find Margaret!"
Angel shot Juniper a glare. "Juniper, I get how you feel. Of course, we need to find Ms. Scott, but rushing won't help. Everyone's exhausted. Why don't we rest, eat something, and then we'll have the energy to search for Ms. Scott more effectively? William, don't you agree?"
