Chapter 43 Ella Got Fired
Felicity whipped out the voice recorder and hit play. The room filled with the sound of a conversation between two people.
"Felicity, I wired you $250,000. Once the job's done, you'll get another $250,000. That cash can cover your kid's medical bills. You want your son to be healthy, right?" The voice was Ella's, clear as day.
Felicity's voice was shaky but excited. "That's a ton of money. What do you need me to do, Ella?"
"Easy. Just swap out Margaret's files," Ella replied smoothly.
"But what if someone catches me?" Felicity hesitated, feeling the weight of the decision.
"Relax. Just act like you're cleaning when no one's around. No one will suspect a thing."
Ella chuckled softly. "Come on, as a janitor, you make peanuts. How long would it take you to earn $500,000? After this, you can quit and lay low in the countryside. Once things cool down, you can find another gig. It's a win-win."
Felicity was sold. "Alright, I'm in!"
Ella sounded pleased. "Good. I'll let you know when to do it. Remember, this stays between us. Not a word to anyone!"
Felicity promised. "Don't worry. My lips are sealed."
The recording cut off.
Margaret glared at Ella. "Got anything to say for yourself?"
"No, it wasn't me!" Ella's face went pale, sweat beading on her forehead as she denied it.
She couldn't admit it, no way!
"We all heard it. That's your voice." Margaret calmly opened her laptop and pulled up an email. "If you keep denying it, I've got more proof."
Margaret enlarged the email for everyone to see.
"This is the transfer record from Felicity's bank account. A friend helped me trace it. The money came from a foreign account, and guess who owns it?"
Margaret paused, her eyes cold as ice on Ella. "Your father, Orson Lewis."
Ella's eyes widened in shock. How did Margaret find out about her dad's account?
She thought she had covered her tracks!
"With witnesses and evidence, Ella, still think I'm framing you?" Margaret asked, her voice stern.
"This can't be happening." Ella's voice shook, wanting to argue but at a loss for words.
The evidence was right there. No matter what she said, it was game over.
"Margaret, you set me up!" Ella's eyes blazed with fury as she lunged at Margaret, hand raised to strike. "You bitch, this was all your trap!"
"Trap?" Margaret caught Ella's hand and shoved her back, a mocking smile on her face. "Ella, if you hadn't tried to screw me over first, how could I have caught you? This is called karma!"
"Ella, why'd you do it?" William, who had been silent until now, finally spoke up.
His handsome face was stone-cold, making the conference room feel like a freezer.
"I..." Ella stammered, meeting William's icy stare. It felt like she was plunged into an ice bath.
William's eyes were like daggers, piercing right through her. "You're fired. Effective immediately, you're no longer with the Fisher Group."
Ella's mind raced. Fired? No way!
Her face went pale. "No! You can't fire me!" She lost it, lunging at William. "William, don't you get it? I did all this for you! I love you! I've loved you since the day I started here!"
"Get out!" William shoved her away, and she hit the ground hard.
Ella's forehead smacked the table corner, blood trickling down, making her look pitiful.
She looked up, her eyes filled with obsession for the man who was so cold to her. "But you never noticed me, no matter what I did. I thought you were just indifferent to all women. I believed if I tried hard enough, you'd see my worth and fall for me."
She continued, "But then Margaret showed up, and everything changed! You only had eyes for her! How could a nobody like her become your fiancée? She doesn't deserve your love! She doesn't deserve you!"
Margaret smirked. Was she just caught in the crossfire?
She was just a placeholder fiancée.
The girl William really liked was "Marjorie."
She didn't expect Ella's love for William to run so deep. Sadly, Ella loved the wrong person and used the wrong methods.
Jealousy had blinded her. To frame Margaret, she didn't hesitate to sacrifice the company's interests and ruin her own future.
"You have ten minutes to leave. I don't want to see you again!" William stood up, his eyes narrowing as he looked down at Ella with pure disgust.
"No, William, listen to me. I really love you! Please don't kick me out, please!"
Ella tried to plead, but Peter quickly pulled her away. "Ella, the boss doesn't want to see you. You need to go now!"
Watching Ella leave in tears, Margaret's eyes flickered slightly.
She had just used the same tactics against her opponent. If she had slipped up, she might have been the one kicked out.
"Today's matter ends here. I don't want to see this kind of thing happen again." William's sharp gaze swept over everyone.
His presence was so intense that everyone, except Margaret, couldn't help but lower their heads.
William walked out of the conference room with steady steps. At the door, he suddenly stopped, turned around, and his eyes locked on Margaret. "Margaret, come to my office."
