Chapter 39 The Show Begins
A week passed quickly, and things were unexpectedly calm in the office.
Lucy hadn't appeared at the Fisher Group again, and Ella, uncharacteristically, hadn't caused any trouble for Margaret.
However, Margaret knew that things couldn't be that simple.
Behind the calm facade, there were often hidden undercurrents.
Today was the day Bruce, the president of Fleurancia, was coming to the Fisher Group.
As the person in charge of the Fleurancia project, Margaret was assigned to meet him at the airport.
Before leaving, Margaret reviewed all the materials needed for the afternoon meeting with Fleurancia.
After ensuring everything was in order, Margaret stood up, ready to head to the airport.
As she was approaching the elevator, the doors were about to close. Margaret hurriedly ran over and shouted, "Wait a second!"
Just as the elevator doors were about to shut, a tall and upright figure stepped in from the side, using his foot to block the doors for Margaret.
"Thanks." Margaret was momentarily stunned when she saw who it was.
It was William.
What was he doing here?
And why was he holding the elevator doors for her?
His tall figure stood in front of her. Seeing Margaret's surprised expression, he said in a deep voice, "Aren't you going in?"
"Oh, thank you." Margaret smiled.
William followed Margaret into the elevator.
"I'm going to the airport with you," William said calmly, seemingly noticing Margaret's confusion.
Margaret was a bit surprised. "I can handle it."
After all, William was a busy president. Why would he personally go to pick someone up from the airport?
With his hands in his pockets, William's tall figure stood beside Margaret, exuding an inexplicable sense of pressure.
He glanced at Margaret with a hint of significance in his eyes. "Bruce is my friend. Of course, I have to go personally to show my sincerity."
In truth, his relationship with Bruce didn't require him to go to such lengths.
But for some reason, upon learning that Margaret was going to pick him up, William decided to go as well.
Margaret nodded and said nothing more. They took the elevator directly to the underground garage.
Today, William was driving a Rolls-Royce. He opened the door, signaling Margaret to get in.
"Thank you!" Margaret sat in the passenger seat and made sure to fasten her seatbelt.
William started the car, his long hands gripping the steering wheel tightly, and asked calmly, "How's the preparation for the afternoon meeting with Fleurancia?"
Margaret pressed her lips together, her tone firm and unquestionable. "No problem."
She knew that today’s meeting would be challenging; there was likely a big show waiting for her.
She was looking forward to it.
An hour later, they arrived at the airport.
Margaret looked at the time; there were still ten minutes before Bruce's flight arrived.
"I'm going to the restroom," Margaret said to William.
William nodded slightly.
In the restroom, Margaret sent a text message: [How are things going?]
Soon, she received a reply: [Everything is going smoothly.]
Margaret smiled. It seemed the big show in the afternoon would be very exciting; everything was within her control.
When Margaret returned to the arrival hall, Bruce had already gotten off the plane.
Bruce, a tall and burly man in his thirties from Fleurancia, greeted William warmly with a hug. "Hi, William!"
"Long time no see." William remained his usual cold and aloof self.
Margaret stepped forward with a polite smile on her face, and greeted Bruce. "Hello!"
Bruce's blue eyes sparkled with curiosity as he looked at Margaret. "And who is this beautiful lady?"
William frowned slightly and introduced, "This is Margaret, the project lead for this cooperation."
Bruce exaggeratedly opened his arms, wanting to hug Margaret. "You are very beautiful. Have we met before?"
Margaret only extended her hand and politely shook Bruce's. "You must be joking. I look very ordinary, so you might find me familiar."
In fact, she had indeed met Bruce once before.
When Margaret and Xavier were traveling in Fleurancia, they had met Bruce at a party, but at that time, Margaret was just fifteen years old.
Fortunately, Bruce didn't recognize her now; she didn't want her hidden identity to be exposed.
After escorting Bruce and his assistant back to the Fisher Group, the meeting for the Fleurancia project officially started at two o'clock.
This time, Margaret had prepared an exquisite PowerPoint presentation.
Margaret delivered a brilliant presentation, expertly outlining the progress of the entire project. The representatives from Fleurancia, including Bruce, nodded frequently, showing their admiration and approval.
As Margaret once again captured everyone's favor, Ella's eyes flashed with jealousy. Her hands clenched tightly as she thought, 'Margaret, just wait, the show is about to start! Let's see how long you can stay smug. This time, you'll be kicked out for sure!'
After the presentation, Margaret received enthusiastic applause, even from William, who clapped without reservation.
Margaret smiled faintly. "Next, let's take a look at the specific design drawings for this phase."
As she spoke, Margaret reached for the folder and began to pull out the design drawings.
However, as she looked at the papers in her hand, her face suddenly paled.
A collective gasp echoed through the room.
Because what Margaret pulled out of the folder were several blank sheets of paper!
Everyone was shocked, but Ella was the first to speak up, "Margaret, what are you doing?"
As the project leader, Margaret had reviewed all the materials for this meeting and brought to the conference room.
Now, the design drawings were missing, replaced by blank sheets of paper. Margaret was clearly responsible for this oversight.
In such an important project meeting, such a significant mistake was unacceptable. Given William’s reputation for strictness, this error could easily cost Margaret her job.
Ella sneaked a glance at William.
Sure enough, William's face was a mask of displeasure, his lips pressed into a thin line that spoke of his frustration.
Ella's eyes flashed with a hint of triumph, and she raised her voice, continuing to question Margaret, "How could you, as the project manager, forget the designs and bring blank sheets? Our secretarial department cannot tolerate such negligence!"
William's face darkened further, and he cast Margaret a cold glance. "What's going on?"
