Chapter 51 Little Money Doesn't Interest Me
Margaret glanced up at the conference room door.
Daisy and Abigail were standing there, looking like they were ready to start some drama.
Daisy, even in her forties, still had that polished look. She rocked a purple dress that screamed class and elegance.
But right now, Daisy's face was twisted with anger.
William didn't come home last night, and Abigail had whipped up breakfast early to take to him, only to come back with puffy eyes.
Through her tears, Abigail told Daisy that when she brought breakfast to William, Margaret shoved her, making her spill everything, and then mouthed off a bunch of nasty stuff.
And that wasn't even the worst part; William got hurt trying to protect Margaret.
Abigail laid it on thick, and Daisy freaked out. She wanted to call William to check on him, but Abigail stopped her. "William told me not to tell you. If he finds out I spilled the beans, he'll be pissed. Don't worry, it's just a scratch; nothing major."
After a pause, Abigail added, "But it was really dangerous. It's all Margaret's fault. If it weren't for saving her, William wouldn't have gotten hurt. This time, it's just a scratch, but who knows what'll happen next time with Margaret around."
"Margaret, that country bumpkin, is a total jinx! Watch me kick her out!" Daisy already had it out for Margaret, and with Abigail egging her on, she stormed over to the Fisher Group with Margaret in her sights.
Daisy scanned the conference room and saw Margaret, along with the stylish president of Fleurancia. She swallowed her anger and hissed, "Margaret, get out here!"
Seeing Daisy and Abigail looking for trouble, Margaret stood up, frowned, and said coolly, "What's up? I'm in a meeting. If you need something, wait outside."
"Margaret, you..."
Before Daisy could finish, Margaret shut the conference room door in her face and locked it. "Sorry. Let's get back to it."
Margaret opened the plan and started explaining it to Bruce. "Here's the detailed report on the funds, manpower, and raw materials needed for mass-producing 'Ice and Fire.'"
Margaret went through everything, and Bruce kept nodding. "Not bad, very good."
Outside, Daisy and Abigail were fuming.
Daisy was so mad she was practically grinding her teeth. "Fine! I'll wait for her!"
"Don't get too worked up," Abigail said, playing the innocent card. "Margaret's really out of line. You're an elder; she shouldn't treat you like this. She's just an uneducated bumpkin. How can she be worthy of our Fisher family? William's just blinded by her looks!"
A cold glint flashed in Daisy's eyes. "I won't let William marry a woman like her!"
They waited two hours before Margaret wrapped up her meeting with Bruce.
When the conference room door finally opened and Bruce left with his assistant, Daisy and Abigail stormed in.
"How did William get hurt?" Daisy demanded as soon as she saw Margaret.
"Ask him yourself." Margaret packed up her laptop for the presentation without even looking up, totally dismissive.
Margaret marveled at the length Abigail had gone through. Going to Water Moon Estate in the morning wasn't enough; now she dragged Daisy to the Fisher Group to grill her. Talk about overkill!
"I talked to security. William got hurt because of you," Abigail spat, glaring daggers at Margaret. "If it weren't for you, he wouldn't be injured!"
"You jinx! You're gonna get William killed one of these days. I won't let you stick around to mess up his life anymore!" Daisy was fuming, and the more she looked at Margaret, the more she couldn't stand her.
She just couldn't wrap her head around it. Bradley used to be a big deal in the business world. How could he be into someone like Margaret and push for this marriage with William?
Even William had been acting different lately, sticking up for Margaret, showing signs of warming up to her, and even ignoring Daisy's words.
Margaret wrapped up, ready to leave, looked Daisy straight in the eye, cool as a cucumber. "Just so you know, the person who stabbed William was Ella. If you want to blame someone, blame her. I've got work to do, so please, don't bother me."
"Margaret!" Daisy's face twisted with rage at Margaret's sharp retort.
"Here's fifty million dollars. Take it and get lost. I don't want to see you again!" Daisy slapped a check on the table, her eyes full of disgust.
Fifty million dollars?
Margaret smirked. Daisy was really pulling out all the stops to get rid of her.
But this trick wasn't gonna work on Margaret.
Seeing Margaret silent, Abigail thought she was stunned by the money and sneered. "Margaret, look closely. This is fifty million dollars. Bet you've never seen this much money in your life! Take it and scram!"
"Fifty million, huh?" Margaret curled her lips, glanced at the check, and picked it up.
"Take the money and leave! Stop bothering William!" Daisy saw Margaret take the check and looked at her with pure contempt.
A bumpkin was a bumpkin, greedy for cash.
Well, at least with money, she could get rid of Margaret for good.
But then, Margaret tore the check into pieces and tossed them at Daisy and Abigail, her tone dripping with disdain. "Sorry, but this amount doesn't interest me."
"Don't be ungrateful!" Abigail's face twisted with anger as the check pieces hit her.
What was Margaret playing at? She didn't care about fifty million dollars? Was she planning to cling to William?
Of course, marrying William was worth way more than fifty million.
Daisy's face went through a range of emotions, glaring at Margaret. "Name your price. How much do you want to leave William?"
"I will leave, but not now." Margaret's eyes narrowed, her expression indifferent. "But it'll be on my terms. Trust me, I don't care about the Fisher family, including William."
With that, Margaret ignored Daisy and Abigail, grabbed her laptop bag, and walked out of the conference room.
As soon as she stepped out, she bumped into a solid chest.
"Ouch, that hurt."
Margaret gasped, rubbed her sore forehead, and looked up to see a familiar, handsome face.
Margaret looked surprised. "William? When did you get here?"
