Chapter 431 Bringing Juniper Back

Dione returned to the hospital room and sat beside Samuel. She adjusted the blanket under his arm and glanced at the heart monitor, watching the rhythmic rise and fall of the lines.

"What did the doctor say just now?" she asked.

Dane, holding Samuel's medical chart, replied while reading, "They said his condition is stable, but there's no improvement compared to a few days ago."

Dione, heartbroken, took Samuel's hand. "Samuel hasn't eaten in days, just surviving on IV fluids. Look how thin he's gotten."

She turned to look at the empty coffee table in the room and rummaged through the cabinet, finding only a couple of pieces of clothing.

"Why isn't there any fruit?"

"Didn't I tell you to eat breakfast? Now you're hungry," Dane chimed in.

"I was in a hurry to see Samuel," Dione retorted, turning to see Dane sitting idly, flipping through the medical chart. Her frustration boiled over.

"Why are you just sitting there? Couldn't you go buy some apples or something? When Samuel wakes up, he hasn't eaten in days. He could have some applesauce to tide him over!"

Dane put down the chart and replied seriously, "The doctor said he shouldn't eat that stuff right after a major illness. He should have some porridge."

"You..."

He was right, and Dione was left speechless. Already upset from her encounter with Juniper, Dane's words only added to her frustration.

"Why am I so unlucky? Stuck with a husband like you and a son like him, all because of that troublemaker, nearly losing his life."

"Juniper is a curse. Look at our son, and now the grandchild in her belly. She can't even take care of herself."

"The doctor said today that the baby is small. Nowadays, babies are usually bigger and harder to deliver, but she's carrying a small one."

Dione complained offhandedly, and Dane sensed something was off. "How do you know that?"

Dione sat back down beside Samuel. "I went downstairs with Liliana to see the doctor and ran into them. It looked like Juniper was getting some tests done."

"Anyway, the baby has a slight issue."

"Slight? Are you sure?" Dane pressed.

Dione thought for a moment. "More or less. I didn't hear clearly."

As they chatted, Samuel, lying in bed, seemed to hear them. His fingers twitched, his head moved slightly, and his brow furrowed. The heart monitor's lines began to spike.

The heart monitor alarm went off.

Dione panicked, standing up with her hands hovering in the air. "He was fine just now. What's happening?! Doctor! Get the doctor!"

Dane remained relatively calm, pressing the call button on the bed to connect to the nurse's station.

"Doctor, the patient in room 903 is in serious trouble. Get the attending physician here immediately!"

"The doctor is on the way. Please stay calm and do not move the patient until the doctor arrives!"

Samuel's condition worsened. He trembled slightly, his pale lips parting.

Dane, wanting to touch Samuel, remembered the nurse's warning and pulled back, leaning in to hear what Samuel was murmuring.

"Juniper... Juniper..."

"Family members, please step out," a nurse instructed.

The doctor and nurses rushed in, ushering Dane and Dione out, lifting Samuel's blanket to begin their examination.

Dione stood anxiously by the door, trying to see through the glass.

A nurse walked over and pulled the curtain closed.

Dione, now unable to see, could only wait outside, worried.

"Samuel was fine just now. Why did this happen suddenly?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Dane spoke slowly, "Maybe because you mentioned Juniper. He might have heard it subconsciously."

"What?" Dione was confused. "He's in a coma. How could he hear? And I didn't say anything bad about her. What are you talking about?"

"Samuel was calling for Juniper."

Dione's eyes widened in disbelief. She looked at the room, then at Dane. "Are you sure?"

"Positive. I didn't mishear."

Dane looked at her seriously. "Juniper is important to Samuel. Now that he has some awareness, it's better if she's with him."

"If you don't agree, I won't let you see Samuel while he's in the hospital."

Though Dione usually managed household matters, this was serious, and Dane's words carried weight.

"But thinking about how Samuel ended up like this because of her... Fine, it's all for Samuel. We'll deal with it after he recovers."

Dione, both angry and anxious, was frustrated by Samuel's attachment to Juniper and worried about his condition. Reluctantly, she left.

"Where are you going?" Dane asked.

"I'm going to find Juniper."

Dione first went to the ultrasound room to inquire, but found no leads.

"We only see patients brought by doctors or those with appointments. With so many people getting ultrasounds daily, we can't find someone just based on your description."

"But you can check the outpatient area. You might find the doctor there."

Dione hurried to the outpatient area, checking two rooms without success.

"Why did they come to a public hospital instead of a private one? Making it so hard for me to find them!"

"Juniper really is a curse on our family!"

She muttered as she searched, finally finding the doctor at the end of a hallway.

Dione described Juniper to the doctor, who then directed her to where Juniper was.

When she arrived, Margaret had brought Juniper breakfast, and Juniper was eating.

Seeing Dione's feet stop at the door, Juniper looked up.

When she saw Dione's face, she quickly put down her utensils, nervously saying, "I'm fine, just getting some nutrients."

"How's the baby?" Dione asked, her tone sharp.

Juniper nodded. "Alright, come with me. Samuel needs you."

Juniper was surprised.

She exchanged a glance with Margaret. What was going on?

Dione had been so hostile earlier, wanting to drive her away. Now she was asking her to come. Was this some kind of trap?

Margaret stood up. "Excuse me, Juniper is currently getting an IV. She can't leave. Is it urgent?"
