Chapter 148 The Fisher Group Runs into Trouble
"Hey, Grandpa," Margaret said, feeling a bit shy in front of Xavier, "Don't say that."
"A guy's gotta get hitched when he's grown, same for a gal. What's there to be shy about?" Xavier teased.
"Grandpa, cut it out!" Margaret turned around, patting her cheeks with her hands.
Seeing her all flustered, William raised an eyebrow and said seriously to Xavier, "I'll take care of Margaret and keep her safe."
"Good, I knew I wasn't wrong about you." Xavier was pleased with William.
This was William's first time meeting Xavier. The old man was full of energy and had a strong presence, nothing like some old dude from the countryside.
William suddenly remembered that Bradley had an old buddy named Scott. The two of them had once made waves in the business world, but they had suddenly retired later on.
Could it be him?
As William was thinking, Margaret suddenly interrupted his thoughts, "Grandpa, how did you know we were here? Did you get my distress signal?"
Xavier nodded. "Yep."
That day, he was fishing by the lake when the sensor he carried suddenly vibrated. Xavier's heart sank. 'Margaret's in trouble!'
He knew Margaret's skills, and for her to send out a distress signal, it had to be serious.
The signal was weak, and it took Xavier a lot of effort to roughly locate it in the deep sea. So he quickly brought people to conduct a rescue.
The necklace had fallen into the deep sea, and the signal was getting weaker. Just when Xavier was feeling a bit desperate, he found Margaret.
The sea breeze blew against Margaret's face, and her long hair fluttered. As the excitement of being rescued gradually calmed down, Margaret asked, "Grandpa, what's the situation outside now?"
The president of the Fisher Group had crashed into the sea, and his life or death was unknown. The outside world must be in an uproar.
Xavier squinted his eyes and looked sharply at William. "William, the Fisher Group is in trouble."
William's brows furrowed slightly. "As expected."
"Grandpa, what exactly happened?" Margaret asked.
Xavier stroked his beard and his expression became serious. "After getting your signal, I contacted William's grandpa immediately, but..."
"What happened to my grandpa?" William's brow twitched, and he asked in a deep voice.
Xavier looked at William. "Your family's servant said he was ill, and I couldn't reach him. This has never happened before, but the situation is urgent, so I had to come out to find you first."
After hearing Xavier's words, William's handsome face turned ice-cold. Even if Bradley was ill, it was impossible not to reach him. Something must have happened.
"William, your grandpa will be fine." Margaret held William's hand and softly comforted him, "Let's get back as soon as possible. No matter what trouble the Fisher Group is in, we'll face it together."
"Okay," William replied lightly and looked deeply at Margaret. In his eyes, there was a barely noticeable flicker of emotion and deep love.
"Grandpa, tell the captain to speed up." Margaret knew that although William appeared calm on the surface, he must be very worried and anxious inside. She felt the same, eager to get back quickly.
Bradley had always been so good to her. If something really happened to him, not only William but she would also be very sad.
"Look, no point in stressing now. You two come in and chill for a bit. Even at top speed, it'll take at least three days to get home," Xavier said, trying to keep his cool even though he was worried about his old friend too.
He had faith that Bradley could handle whatever was thrown at him. Plus, now that he had found William, with William's skills, they could turn things around for the Fisher Group once they got back.
After a few more days at sea, Margaret and William finally made it back to Ravenford. At the port, Xavier saw them off and reminded them, "Alright, I'm heading back. Be careful with everything. If you can't handle it, hit me up anytime."
"Take care, Grandpa." Margaret was a bit reluctant, but she had bigger fish to fry now.
Xavier's yacht disappeared from view, and Margaret's eyes got a little misty.
"Margaret, once we sort things out here, I'll go with you to see your grandpa," William's clear voice brought her back to reality. She frowned slightly, "Let's head to Fisher Manor and find your grandpa first."
"No, we can't rush in. It'll tip off whoever's behind this," William said calmly.
Margaret quickly caught on to what William meant.
When she was at the manor before, she had secretly observed Bradley. His health was stable and normal back then. How could he suddenly fall seriously ill now? Bradley's illness was probably no accident. And whoever did this was likely the same person who messed with the plane to harm William.
"Let's find Peter first," William said in a deep voice.
Margaret nodded and handed William the phone Xavier had given her. Both her and William's phones had taken a dive into the sea.
William took the phone and dialed Peter's number.
"Hello, who is this?" Peter's voice came from the other end.
"It's me," William said coldly.
"Mr. Fisher?" Peter's voice suddenly lit up. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," William said lightly.
"Mr. Fisher, it's so good to hear you're okay!" Peter's tone was filled with relief and concern. "We've all been really worried about you and Ms. Scott. A lot has happened while you were missing."
"We'll talk when we meet." William looked around. "I'm at the bay port."
"I'll come to get you right away," Peter said respectfully.
"Don't tell anyone I contacted you," William instructed firmly.
"I got it."
Half an hour later, Peter pulled up at the bay port.
"Mr. Fisher, Ms. Scott, it's really you!" Peter opened the car door and saw William and Margaret, feeling like it had been ages.
"Let's talk in the car," William said coolly and got into the back seat with Margaret.
Peter started the car and drove out of the port. "Mr. Fisher, where to?"
"To my villa in the suburbs," William said with a slight smirk.
This villa was a gift from Bradley a long time ago. It was super secluded, and no one knew about it. Right now, he didn't want anyone to know he was back in Ravenford.
Finally arriving at the villa, William led Margaret and Peter into the living room. He plopped down on the sofa, crossed his legs, and asked lightly, "So, what exactly happened to the Fisher Group? And what's up with my grandpa?"
