Chapter 185 Finding Margaret

"No way, Margaret's gotta be around here somewhere!" William's voice was rock solid. He had this gut feeling he'd see Margaret soon and save her!

Looking up at the red scarf flapping in the wind, William felt a bit ticked off. 'Margaret left such an obvious SOS, why didn't I spot it sooner? She must've been in deep trouble when she left it, hoping I'd come to her rescue. But it's taken me forever to find it. It's been a whole forty-eight hours since she went missing.'

He couldn't wait any longer!

"How did we just now notice Margaret's distress signal?" Juniper was kicking herself too.

"The scarf must've been buried under the snow before, so we couldn't see it," Peter figured. "This morning the sun came out, the snow started melting, and then a gust of wind blew, revealing the scarf."

"Yeah, that makes sense," William nodded.

'But where the heck is Margaret?' William furrowed his brows, his intense eyes scanning the villagers who'd come to help. "Can you think of any place nearby where someone could hide?"

"Ah, I remember!" One of the villagers said excitedly, "There's a cave just off this road. I went in there last summer when I was gathering herbs in the mountains."

William urgently asked, "Where's the cave?"

"It should be around here," the villager scratched his head. "I don't remember exactly where."

"Shit!" William cursed under his breath. At a critical moment, there was no clear answer. But at least now they had a clue. Margaret likely left the distress signal before the avalanche and then hid in the cave.

The villager tilted his head, thinking for a few seconds, then pointed to the right. "The general direction should be over there."

Before the villager finished speaking, William was already sprinting in the direction he pointed.

"Margaret, Margaret! Are you here?! Margaret! Answer me!" William shouted at the top of his lungs.

Pausing, he turned back to instruct Peter, "You guys come over here and start digging out the snow!"

Inside the cave, Margaret was leaning against the cave wall, resting with her eyes closed to conserve energy. Faintly, she seemed to hear a magnetic voice. It was ethereal, almost unreal. Straining her ears, she caught snatches of words that brushed against her consciousness with a comforting familiarity.

It sounded like William's voice!

Margaret suddenly woke up. She quickly walked to the cave entrance and listened carefully. "Margaret, Margaret! Where are you!"

'It really is William! William has come to save me!' Boundless joy spread through Margaret's heart. She trembled as she spoke, "William, is that you?"

Having been trapped in the cave for two whole days, her voice was a bit hoarse.

"William, I'm here!" Margaret tried to raise her voice but found it difficult. She had to notify William quickly that she was here.

Margaret took a deep breath to calm herself.

Looking down at her phone, Margaret cranked up the volume to max and played some music. She hoped William could hear it.

While searching for the cave, William suddenly caught a faint sound of music coming through the snow. It was Margaret's favorite song!

"Margaret, it's Margaret!" William's eyes lit up with pure joy. He turned back and shouted, "Everyone, get over here! Margaret's here!"

"Quick, dig out the snow!" William barked orders like a drill sergeant.

He seemed to have endless energy, his hands constantly clawing through the snow. His big hands were red from the cold, but William didn't care. All he knew was that Margaret was on the other side of that snow.

Everyone jumped in, helping William dig out the snow bit by bit. The music from the phone got louder and louder.

"Margaret, I'm here! Hold on, you gotta hold on!" William called out, his voice full of determination.

Inside the cave, Margaret clearly heard William's voice. Her heart skipped a beat. After being tense for the past two days, she finally relaxed a bit.

"Faster, dig faster!" William was desperate to see Margaret.

"Mr. Fisher, this isn't working, it's too slow." Peter's hands were frozen stiff, and the snow blocking the cave entrance hadn't budged much. Pausing, he asked William, "How about this, I'll take some people back to the village to get tools."

"Hurry up and go!" William's eyes were icy as he glared at him. In his worry, he hadn't thought to get tools first and was using the most primitive method to save Margaret.

Peter quickly took some villagers back to the village, while William kept digging with his hands, not stopping for a second.

"William, take a break, wait for Peter and the others to bring the tools," Angel said from the side.

A shadow of malice flashed in Angel's eyes. 'Margaret isn't dead! She survived the avalanche!' Seeing William's desperate efforts for Margaret, Angel clenched her fists tightly at her sides. She wouldn't let Margaret take William away!

"Marjorie, you go rest first," William snapped impatiently.

Right now, the only thing on his mind was rescuing Margaret as fast as possible!

Soon, Peter and the villagers returned with shovels and other tools. "Mr. Fisher, use these!"

With tools, the pace picked up big time. About an hour later, they finally cleared an opening in the snow.

Strong sunlight poured through the opening, dazzling Margaret's eyes. She squinted, taking a moment to adjust to the light outside. When she opened her eyes again, she saw William's tall, familiar figure.

Even though she knew William was outside, working hard to save her, seeing his tall, familiar figure standing right in front of her, Margaret still couldn't believe it and rubbed her eyes.

Her eyes reddened, tears welled up, and Margaret bit her dry lips, her voice trembling. "William, is it really you?"
