Chapter 52 Margaret Looks Down on Him
Margaret's words, dripping with a bit of arrogance, kept bouncing around in William's head.
William thought, 'Margaret thinks I'm not worthy? Seriously? What's her deal?'
William's face was all serious. His whole life, he was the golden boy, always on top. This was the first time he felt the sting of someone looking down on him.
He used to brush off others like it was nothing. Now, someone actually had the nerve to diss him.
Seeing William standing there with a stormy face, Margaret asked, surprised, "William, weren't you at home? Why'd you suddenly show up?"
Before William could answer, Abigail butted in, playing the victim. "Perfect timing. Look at my face, Margaret did this to me. And she hit your mom too."
Margaret was totally confused. When did she hit them?
"I told you to stop bugging Margaret, didn't I?" William's cold stare swept over Abigail.
His vibe was so intense that Abigail shivered, blinking her eyes and looking at Daisy all pitiful.
"William, what's so great about this chick? Why are you defending her like this?" Daisy's tone was full of anger.
Her own son was actually siding with that country bumpkin.
"I just know Grandpa likes her." William impatiently tugged at his tie, "Grandpa's health isn't great. Mom, you don't want to piss him off, do you?"
"You!" William brought up Bradley, and Daisy couldn't argue back.
"Mrs. Fisher, I said I'd leave, but not now." Margaret looked mockingly at the torn check on the ground. "You can keep this fifty million bucks for yourself!"
With that, Margaret walked towards the office without looking back.
"Look at her. What kind of attitude is that!" Abigail stomped her foot in anger.
She thought with William's injury, Daisy could kick Margaret out. But Margaret shamelessly refused to leave, and even William was backing her up!
"Is your hand okay?" Daisy asked, a bit concerned, pulling William's hand.
"It's fine." William pulled his hand back, looking indifferent.
Daisy snorted coldly. "I heard you got hurt because of Margaret?"
"It has nothing to do with her," William said coldly. "Mom, stop bothering her."
"I'm bothering her?" Daisy was furious, "I'm doing this for your own good. Do you really want to marry such a country bumpkin? What's so great about her? Just 'cause she's kinda pretty? Is that why you're all into her? This kind of woman, with no manners and greedy for money, who knows what shady stuff she might do behind your back!"
"Exactly!" Abigail chimed in, trashing Margaret. "After all, she came from the sticks. Besides seducing men, what else can she do? You just don't know her well enough. Last time, when I was shopping with friends, I saw Margaret with a guy."
"What guy?" William frowned and asked instinctively.
"That popular actor, Samuel." Abigail exaggerated. "I don't know how Margaret knows Samuel. But they were super close, holding hands."
"Enough!" William's handsome face darkened, and he impatiently cut off Abigail. "They're friends. Don't jump to conclusions."
In his head, he couldn't shake the memory of Margaret singing for Samuel at the bar.
With a tense face, William stormed back to the CEO's office.
Imagining Margaret and Samuel getting cozy, William irritably flipped through the papers on his desk, but couldn't focus on a single word.
Peter, holding a document for William to sign, had just reached the door when he heard William's stern and cold voice. "Why is there a typo?"
"Sorry, I'll fix it right away!" The department manager, who was reporting to William, was sweating bullets.
Today, William was on a rampage. Just because of a typo, he chewed the guy out for half an hour.
"Hurry up and fix it!" William's icy glare could freeze water.
"Yes, yes!" The department manager, relieved, quickly scurried out.
At the door, he bumped into Peter and warned him with lingering fear. "Mr. Fisher is in a foul mood today. Good luck."
Bad mood?
William always had a serious face. When was he ever in a good mood?
Peter knocked on the door, confused.
"Come in!" William's voice was colder than usual.
Opening the door, a wave of tension hit him. Peter handed the document to William and cautiously said, "Sir, this document needs your signature."
William took the document, glanced at it coldly, and said in a deep voice, "Isn't this supposed to be sent to the partner this afternoon? Why are you bringing it for signature now?"
Peter's heart skipped a beat. Wasn't it because William took the morning off?
As if reading Peter's mind, William's icy voice cut through the air. "Couldn't you bring it to my house for me to sign?"
Peter, feeling his scalp tingle under William's cold gaze, quickly said, "I got it. I'll be more careful next time."
Only then did William sign his name with a flourish.
Peter, holding the document, was about to leave when William's cold voice suddenly came from behind. "If a woman doesn't think a man is worth her time, why is that?"
Peter paused, feeling puzzled.
He thought, 'A woman doesn't think a man is worth her time? What does that mean? Who is this woman? And who is the man? Could it be that a woman rejected William? But that doesn't seem possible! So many women want to be with William!'
How would he know why!
Thinking for a moment, Peter said, "Maybe it's because the guy is just average?"
"Get out!" William's voice was as cold as winter.
Margaret returned to her seat and buried herself in her work.
Today's meeting with Bruce was a hit. Bruce was stoked about her proposal and wanted to launch the new product ASAP.
So, Margaret would be super busy these days, overseeing the new product launch and getting it to market as quickly as possible.
Margaret was about to call a meeting with the team for the "Ice and Fire" series when her desk phone rang.
It was William.
"Hello," Margaret answered the phone, but before she could finish, William's cold voice cut her off.
With just a brief sentence. "Come to my office."
