Chapter 447 Mysterious Phone Call

"Is that you?"

No answer, just the sound of steady breathing on the other end. Juniper was about to ask again, but she already knew.

She lowered her eyes, her fingers tightening around her phone. She asked tentatively, "Alden, is that you?"

Five seconds passed, then the call abruptly ended. Not a single word was spoken.

But it didn't matter anymore.

Juniper knew in her heart. She let her hand fall limply, a strong sense of helplessness washing over her. Even after all this time, she realized she still missed Alden deeply.

Juniper glanced towards the door. Inside was the joy of survival; outside was the desolation of despair.

Her heart felt like it was weighed down by a heavy stone, suffocating and painful. She couldn't catch her breath or find the words to speak. After a few more seconds, Juniper turned and pushed open the door to the hospital room, still looking troubled.

She walked back to the bedside and sat down. Samuel noticed her change in demeanor as soon as she returned. When Juniper sat down, Samuel turned his head slightly and instinctively took her hand, asking softly, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, just a telemarketer. She talked for too long, and I'm a bit tired, that's all."

Samuel nodded thoughtfully, understanding. He squeezed Juniper's hand again. "You've been working too hard lately, and you're pregnant. You should take it easy and get some rest."

"It's fine." Juniper shook her head, forcing a smile. She sat beside Samuel, but her mind often wandered back to Alden's face.

[Is he doing okay now?]

Since Samuel woke up, Juniper had been visiting the hospital almost every day. Even Dione's attitude towards Juniper had softened. Though she still wasn't very friendly most of the time, they could at least have a civil conversation.

"Alright, his condition is stable now. The fact that he woke up means Samuel was lucky. A couple more days of IV fluids to replenish his nutrients, and he can be discharged. But remember, he shouldn't overexert himself after leaving the hospital."

Pryce finished Samuel's acupuncture session and finally breathed a sigh of relief, a relatively relaxed smile appearing on his face.

Juniper nodded repeatedly. Samuel felt a bit guilty and nodded as well. "I understand, I'll make sure to rest. Thank you for all your hard work, Dr. Holt. I really appreciate it."

"If you know you feel bad, then take better care of yourselves in the future." Pryce's words were heartfelt, causing Juniper and Samuel to exchange a knowing glance and fall silent.

Three days later, after the doctor confirmed that Samuel's health was stable, Juniper went to handle his discharge paperwork. She didn't expect that as soon as they stepped out of the hospital, they would be met by a swarm of reporters and their cameras, along with quite a few fans.

The reporters immediately swarmed them, bombarding them with questions, most of which were directed at Juniper.

"Juniper, is it true that Samuel's car accident was because of you?"

"Juniper, there were photos online of Samuel proposing to you at the airport, but it's said you didn't accept. Did his accident happen because of issues in your relationship?"

"Samuel, are you and Juniper really dating? Why was she the one with you when the accident happened?"

The questions were sharp and relentless. Juniper was caught off guard and didn't know how to respond.

Things escalated when a crazed fan suddenly appeared and threw an egg at Juniper, shouting, "It's all your fault! If it weren't for you, Samuel wouldn't be in the hospital, and he wouldn't have missed filming. Do you know how much money he's losing because of you? It's all your fault!"

The fan's outburst incited others, and the situation became chaotic. The security guards quickly stepped in to maintain order and prevent further disturbances at the hospital entrance.

Samuel frowned deeply, especially when he saw the egg hit Juniper. He quickly asked a guard for some tissues to clean her up, then stood protectively in front of her, addressing his fans with frustration.

"Look, I know you care about me and my career, but you can't blame Juniper for this. The airport proposal was real. I love her and plan to marry her. If you care about me, please respect her and everything around me. I don't want to see anyone getting hurt because of this."

As expected, Samuel's words had a powerful effect.

The fans quieted down, and the girl who had thrown the egg hesitated before stepping forward and apologizing to Juniper. "I'm sorry."

Juniper was surprised by Samuel's defense and the fan's apology. She paused, then smiled and shook her head. "It's okay, don't worry about it."

With the situation defused, Samuel turned to Juniper, smiling and holding her hand tightly. "Let's go."

The security guards escorted Samuel and Juniper away. Juniper glanced at Samuel beside her, feeling a warmth in her heart and a smile tugging at her lips.

After Samuel woke up, Madeline noticed Dione's improved attitude towards Juniper and felt reassured. She moved out of the Hall Villa to a hotel apartment Juniper had arranged for her, but she didn't expect Ramon to join her.

With the two elders together, they had plenty to talk about.

After watering the flowers on the balcony, Madeline thought of Juniper and sighed. "I wonder how Juniper is doing at the Hall Villa. She never had to suffer at our house. We never even scolded her. But Samuel's mom acts like Juniper did something terrible to him. I saw her giving Juniper a hard time those two days I was there."

Ramon nodded, setting down his newspaper. "Yeah, Dione's always been tough. But Juniper's strong. She'll handle it. And Samuel's there for her. They'll get through it together."
