Chapter 100 The Press Conference
This was one hell of a moment. Everyone there was buzzing, waiting for the press conference to kick off.
Margaret strutted to the center of the stage, cool as a cucumber. "Hey, everyone! Welcome to the Fisher Group's 'Ice and Fire' jewelry launch!" Margaret said, clearing her throat.
The crowd went wild. Lucy, watching the queen-like Margaret on stage, felt a pang of jealousy.
Lucy had nagged William to bring her to the press conference today, just biding her time until the celebration banquet tonight to take down Margaret.
She thought, 'Margaret, you're gonna get what's coming to you tonight!'
Margaret kept going. "We're super pumped to launch the 'Ice and Fire' jewelry series this quarter. Wanna know more about 'Ice and Fire'? Let's roll the promo video."
Margaret gave the nod to the staff to play the video.
In the video, Seraphina, rocking a white gown and the 'Ice and Fire' jewelry, glided towards Lyle. At first, under the soft white light, Seraphina's jewelry glowed white, sparkling like an ice fairy, pure and sweet.
Then, the lights switched to a warm hue, and the jewelry on Seraphina magically shifted from white to red, like a blazing fire. In that moment, Seraphina morphed from an ice princess to a fiery queen, passionate, enchanting, and dazzling.
The crowd was blown away by the stunning effect.
"It's gorgeous! Absolutely stunning!"
But then someone piped up, "Isn't this 'As You Wish'?"
People started murmuring. "Yeah, isn't 'As You Wish' a thing from Royal Radiance? Why's the Fisher Group using their design?"
"Could it be that the Fisher Group copied it?"
"No way. Did the Fisher Group rip off Royal Radiance?"
After the video ended, a reporter couldn't help but ask, "Miss Scott, the 'Ice and Fire' effect is amazing. But why does it look just like Royal Radiance's 'As You Wish' design? Did the Fisher Group copy Royal Radiance?"
Margaret's icy gaze landed on the reporter, a young woman in her early twenties. Given how big this launch was, it was only natrual to expect seasoned reporters. This one was too green, which smelled fishy. Probably had something to do with Royal Radiance.
Facing the accusation, Margaret smiled coolly, "Watch your words. If you keep throwing around baseless accusations and slandering the Fisher Group, we'll take legal action."
The reporter was ready for this. "Sorry. I'm just voicing my doubts. I think most people here have the same question: why does the Fisher Group's design look so much like Royal Radiance's? Can you give us a reasonable explanation?"
Keeping that gracious smile plastered on her face, Margaret said, "As y'all know, Royal Radiance's 'As You Wish' hit the media two days ago, but our 'Ice and Fire' was out there first."
"Got any proof of that?" the reporter shot back.
Margaret got serious, "The Fisher Group's promo video was shot three days ago, and the 'Ice and Fire' samples were done a week ago. Plenty of folks can back this up, including our endoesers in the video."
"Yep, I can vouch for that," Lyle, sitting in the guest seat, stood up and said seriously, "The Fisher Group asked me to be their spokesperson a week ago. Margaret showed me the 'Ice and Fire' samples back then. Bruce was there too."
Lyle was a big-name actor, and his words swayed a lot of folks towards the Fisher Group.
Margaret kept going. "So, our samples were done a week ago. Many of you here know it takes at least half a month to go from design to sample in the jewelry biz. Royal Radiance's 'As You Wish' dropped two days ago. How could we have copied them?"
"Miss Scott's right," Bruce stood up too. "I can confirm the 'Ice and Fire' design came before 'As You Wish.' She showed me the sketches half a month ago."
Margaret smiled. "Alright, everyone can see now that the Fisher Group would never stoop to such low plagiarism."
"Isn't that a bit too absolute?" the reporter kept pushing. "We all know Bruce is a partner of the Fisher Group, and 'Ice and Fire' is a collab between Fleurancia and the Fisher Group. And Lyle, according to the gossip, is buddies with William, so of course, he'd lean towards the Fisher Group."
She paused, then continued, "So, their words are just biased. The Fisher Group definitely copied Royal Radiance!"
Margaret frowned. "Please watch a video provided by the police."
That day, Margaret and her crew went to Lover's Lake for an outdoor shoot, and after the whole Ella incident, Abigail called the cops. The police took statements, including from Seraphina. At that time, Seraphina was rocking the 'Ice and Fire' jewelry, which the cops recorded.
After playing the video, Margaret coldly stared at the reporter, a sarcastic smile on her lips. "You wouldn't say the police are biased towards the Fisher Group, would you?"
The reporter was momentarily speechless. Margaret smiled faintly. "I think I don't need to say more; everyone here can judge for themselves."
Another reporter asked, "Since the 'Ice and Fire' design came before Royal Radiance's 'As You Wish,' does that mean they copied your 'Ice and Fire'?"
"Could be, so we'll be taking legal action," Margaret said seriously.
Just as Margaret finished, a sudden female voice cut in. "What if my design was published in a fashion magazine two months ago?"
