Chapter 197 Wait and See

Margaret totally blew off Angel and strutted right to the CEO's office. But her heart was feeling a bit of a pinch.

She was all kinds of confused. 'Why does Angel keep messing with me? Isn't she with William already? What's her deal? If Angel's really Marjorie, she should be chill about keeping William. What's she so scared of?'

Margaret mulled it over and shot a text to Anthony: [Anthony, I need you to dig up some dirt on someone.]

Anthony hit her back quick: [Who? Don't tell me it's that Marjorie chick from back in the day.]

Margaret let out a little self-deprecating laugh. But she had to start with Angel. Whether Angel was Marjorie or not, time would spill the tea.

Margaret smirked and fired off another text to Anthony: [Check out an Angel girl in the Fisher Group for me. She used to sing at Enigma Bar. I need all the deets.]

Then she added: [Especially around the 18th of last month. Anything weird about Angel.]

The 18th was the day Margaret and William were supposed to get engaged. Angel showed up and wrecked the whole thing.

Like Juniper said, it was way too convenient. When things line up too perfectly, there's usually some shady stuff going on. Margaret's gut told her Angel's timing was no accident. Someone was pulling strings.

Anthony replied fast: [I'll get on it ASAP.]

Margaret texted back: [Cool, I'll be waiting.]

She pocketed her phone and got to the CEO's office door. Thinking about seeing William made her heart race. She took a few deep breaths to chill out, then knocked on the door.

"Come in," William's clear voice called out.

Margaret pushed the door open and walked in.

"Margaret?" William looked up and saw her. His cold eyes softened a bit. He stood up, his deep eyes locked on her face, his lips parting slightly. "Margaret, you need something?"

"Yeah." Margaret nodded, walked over to his desk, and handed him some documents. "About the 'Ice and Fire' jewelry, there's some stuff I need to update you on."

William's eyes dropped to the documents in her hand.

Margaret went on, "So, Royal Radiance has been dropping a bunch of knock-offs, and it's killing our sales. We're down 20% this month."

"I know. I already got Peter on it." William squinted his eyes a bit.

Margaret nodded. "Alright, I'll get back to work then."

Seeing her all business-like, William's face darkened. He reached out and grabbed her waist. Margaret was about to leave when he yanked her, making her lose her balance and fall into his arms.

William took the chance to press her onto the nearby couch. He leaned over her, hands planted on either side, his tall frame pinning her down.

"You really came here just for business?" William's cold eyes bore into her, his tone icy.

Margaret squirmed but couldn't break free. She smirked and shot back, "What else?"

William's lips pressed into a thin line, his handsome face tight with irritation.

The air in the office got thick with tension. After a beat, William's voice dropped, "Margaret, you got nothing else to say to me?"

"Nope," Margaret replied coolly.

"Not even gonna ask where I was last night?" William's face darkened at her indifference.

"Marjorie already filled me in," Margaret said with a cold smile.

"Marjorie? What'd she say?" William was taken aback.

Margaret snorted and looked away, refusing to meet his gaze.

Just then, a knock on the door interrupted them, followed by Peter's voice. "Mr. Fisher."

Margaret seized the moment to push William away. "Someone's here, let me go."

William frowned but released her, straightening his slightly rumpled clothes. "Come in," he said in a deep voice.

Peter walked in, noticing the tension in the room. He knew he had bad timing.

"What is it?" William snapped, loosening his tie and sitting back in his chair, shooting Peter a cold look.

Peter's face tightened as he quickly approached. "Mr. Fisher, I found some info on Royal Radiance."

"Spill," William said flatly.

Peter opened his folder, handed the documents to William, and explained, "Since the last plagiarism scandal, Royal Radiance has taken a huge hit. Their reputation and operations are in the gutter. Their capital chain broke, and they were about to go under."

Margaret frowned, confused. "If Royal Radiance is in such bad shape, how are they still hitting us so hard?"

"Because someone bought them out," Peter said, glancing at Margaret.

"Bought Royal Radiance?" William's tone had a hint of surprise.

Margaret was puzzled too. Who'd buy a sinking ship like that?

"Yeah," Peter nodded.

William's face turned cold. "Which company bought Royal Radiance?"

Peter pointed to the documents. "A company from Aurorania, called Baxter Pty Ltd, or BPL."

Margaret's heart skipped a beat. Something felt off. If she remembered right, the maintenance guy named Thaddeus, who messed with the chandelier that almost crushed her, had his accident in Aurorania. Now, this Baxter Pty Ltd that bought Royal Radiance was also from Aurorania.

Could it really be just a coincidence?
