Chapter 228 The Fisher Group Will Be the Ultimate Winner
Seeing Mia's face all twisted with anger, Margaret just raised an eyebrow, looking slightly annoyed. She turned to Lyle, her voice dripping with impatience. "Lyle, you handle her."
With that, Margaret hopped into the car, not giving Mia another glance. She really couldn't be bothered with people who didn't matter.
Mia's face got even redder when she saw Margaret's dismissive look, like she wasn't even worth a second of her time.
Lyle stepped in front of Mia, his voice cold. "Mia, quit causing a scene!"
"Causing a scene?" Mia shot back, her lips tight. "Lyle, why haven't you been answering my calls? Why won't you see me?"
Mia wanted to explain things to Lyle, but he wasn't having any of it. With no other options, she had to track down Margaret. She wanted to warn Margaret to back off from Lyle! But she didn't expect to find them together right off the bat.
She thought, 'That shameless Margaret must be clinging to Lyle again!'
"I've told you, there's nothing between us!" Lyle's eyes narrowed, his handsome face tense. "Mia, stop bothering me and leave Margaret alone."
He paused, his eyes turning icy. "Or else, I won't hesitate to make your scandals front-page news."
"Lyle, just listen to me..." Mia started, but Lyle cut her off, shoving her aside and getting into the car.
The door slammed shut. Lyle fired up the engine. Margaret asked coolly, "Handled?"
"Yeah," Lyle said seriously, "Margaret, don't worry, I won't let anyone drag your name through the mud again."
He was counting on his proposal to Margaret at tomorrow's award ceremony to shut everyone up. He couldn't wait for that moment.
Lyle knew Margaret well; she wouldn't turn him down in front of a crowd and embarrass him.
Margaret leaned back and pulled out her phone to scroll through the news. The stories about her leaking the Fisher Group's bid had vanished.
Margaret couldn't help but think, 'Did William have someone take them down? William should be at the hospital now, right?'
Margaret rubbed her temples and heard Lyle's deep voice. "We're here, Margaret, get out of the car."
Lyle had parked in front of a Mexican restaurant.
"Margaret, you love spicy food, and this place is top-notch." Lyle had a faint smile.
As usual, he had the place cleared out in advance. Lyle hated being interrupted when he was with Margaret.
They sat down, and Lyle handed her the menu. "Margaret, pick whatever you want."
Margaret ordered a few dishes casually. "These will do."
Soon, the food arrived, and Margaret dug in with gusto. It really hit the spot.
"By the way, didn't you say you had some business to discuss?" Margaret suddenly remembered, wiping her mouth.
Lyle nodded, cleared his throat, and said, "So, for next month's big costume drama 'Imperial Secrets: Palace of Roses,' I'm thinking of casting either Seraphina or Skylar as the lead. What do you think?"
Margaret smiled. "You handle that stuff."
Since Seraphina started repping the Fisher Group's "Ice and Fire" jewelry, her fame had shot through the roof. She snagged a bunch of high-profile gigs and was quickly becoming a big deal in the entertainment world. Skylar Tate, though, was already a top actress in Starlight Entertainment and had just bagged this year's Best Actress award.
Seraphina had the right vibe for the lead role, but Skylar had the experience to back it up.
"I'll mull it over some more," Lyle said, still on the fence.
The next morning, Margaret rolled up to the Fisher Group. As soon as she walked in, some employees started whispering.
"I heard Margaret leaked the bid for the North Bay project, and we lost to BPL because of it."
"Seriously? How does she even have the guts to show up here?"
Margaret ignored them and headed straight to her office. Seeing BPL's massive online push for the North Bay project, Margaret just smirked. She had a master plan for the North Bay project all along. Angel leaking the Fisher Group's bid to frame her was just a piece of Margaret's puzzle.
Let BPL snatch up the North Bay land at a high price and making Jack feel all smug. In a few days, the government would announce plans for an industrial park near North Bay. BPL wanted to build a big residential area there. But once the industrial park news hit, who'd want to buy homes there?
The North Bay land would be worthless. Jack would have to sell it dirt cheap. This way, the Fisher Group could scoop it up for way less than $300 million.
With William's pull, moving the industrial park wouldn't be a big deal. By then, the Fisher Group would come out on top!
Margaret wanted to fill William in on the plan, but he was MIA all day. 'Is he at the hospital with Angel?' she wondered.
Margaret felt a bit annoyed and asked Peter, "Where's William?"
Peter shook his head. "Mr. Fisher didn't come in today."
"Is he at the hospital?" Margaret frowned.
Peter shook his head again. "Nope."
"Then where is he?" Margaret pressed.
Peter shrugged. "Ms. Scott, I really don't know. Mr. Fisher told me this morning he had something to do and would be late, so he asked me to cancel all the morning meetings."
"Alright." Seeing Peter's clueless expression, Margaret knew he really didn't know where William was.
It wasn't until evening that William showed up. Margaret was deep in work when William suddenly appeared in front of her.
"Margaret, let's go." William's deep voice broke the silence, and when Margaret looked up, she met his intense gaze.
"Where to?" Margaret asked, surprised.
William looked at her intently. "You'll see if you come with me."
Glancing at the time, Margaret said coolly, "Sorry, William, I have plans tonight. I gotta leave right after work."
"What plans?" William asked, his face unreadable.
Margaret answered honestly, "I'm going to an award ceremony tonight."
William's eyes narrowed slightly. "You're into that?"
"Not really." Margaret smiled. "I promised Lyle I'd watch his award ceremony."
William's face suddenly turned serious.
