Chapter 41 Who Switched the Design Blueprint

"What's up?" Ella asked.

Ella and Olivia both froze, trying to hide their annoyance with Margaret and staring at her, totally puzzled.

Margaret grabbed the blank paper from the folder and waved it around. "Alright, let's get into this."

Ella's eyes flickered when she saw the blank paper. "What are you trying to say?"

Margaret walked over to William and handed him the paper. "A perfectly good design drawing just magically turned into blank paper. Don't you think that's kinda fishy, sir?"

William took the blank paper and slapped it on the conference table. His fingers drummed on the table, creating this weird tension.

Obviously, the design drawing didn't just vanish into thin air; someone had to have swapped it.

Only a few people had access to the drawings, and Margaret was super careful with her work, so it wasn't like someone could just switch them without her noticing.

Two options: either someone framed Margaret, which William wouldn't stand for, or she did it herself.

But why? This was getting juicy.

William spoke slowly, "I'll have Peter dig into this."

"Yes, sir," Peter replied, all respectful.

Margaret nodded. "Before I headed to the airport, I checked the folder—the drawings were there. When I got back and went into the meeting, they were blank. Someone swapped them while I was gone."

"Margaret, cut the crap. You lost the drawings yourself and now you're making a big scene!" Ella felt a wave of panic when William said he'd investigate.

She knew William's methods. If she got caught, it wouldn't be pretty.

Ella felt a chill run down her spine.

"I lost the drawings?" Margaret sneered. "And then I swapped them with blank paper myself? Do you think everyone is as dumb as you?"

"What are you implying?" Ella glared at Margaret, trying to keep her cool.

She reassured herself, thinking she had been discreet and that Margaret shouldn't know anything.

Margaret's sharp gaze cut through Ella, "Ever heard the saying: 'If you don't want people to know, don't do it'?"

Ella's heart skipped a beat, and she glanced at William, who had been sitting silently.

He was expressionless, his eyes sharp. Ella quickly looked away.

"I don't know what nonsense you're spouting," Ella said impatiently. "I have other things to do. This meeting is over, Margaret. I don't have time for this."

With that, Ella started to leave.

"Hold up!" Margaret's voice was cold and firm. "Ella, are you in such a rush because you're feeling guilty?"

"Guilty? Guilty of what?" Ella paused, trying to stay calm.

"Because you had someone swap the design drawings!" Margaret dropped the bomb.

Ella's face changed slightly. "Don't accuse me! Do you even know what defamation is?"

"Defamation?" Margaret smirked. She knew Ella wouldn't admit it that easily.

No matter how much Ella denied it, she was just digging her own grave.

Margaret was locked and loaded, ready to blow Ella's cover today!

"I've got proof that you're the mastermind behind this mess," Margaret said, ice-cold.

William suddenly stood up. Tall, imposing, with a face like stone and lips pressed tight.

He glanced at Margaret, his expression unreadable. "You say you have evidence? Show it."

Then, in a no-nonsense tone, he told everyone, "Sit back down."

With William's command, Ella had no choice but to return to her seat, feeling super uneasy. Could Margaret really have evidence?

No way!

She had covered her tracks perfectly; Margaret couldn't have anything on her!

"What evidence do you have to prove I swapped the design drawings? Margaret, I'm warning you, defamation is a crime!" Ella took a deep breath. "I know you've always been against me, but you can't just throw around accusations like this!"

Margaret glanced at the agitated Ella. "With Mr. Fisher here, why are you so jumpy? If it wasn't you, he wouldn't wrong you. But if it was, he won't let anyone who harms the company slide!"

She paused, then looked at William. "Am I right?"

William raised an eyebrow, acknowledging her words.

Seeing Margaret's confidence, he believed she really had some dirt.

His fiancée was getting more and more intriguing.

Originally, William had planned to have Peter investigate, but now it seemed unnecessary.

He'd let Margaret take the lead.

But one thing bugged him: why would Ella do this?

Sure, Ella was usually a bit of a diva, but she was always serious and responsible at work. Why would she pull a stunt that hurt the company just to frame Margaret?

Plus, as the head of the secretarial department, if something happened to Margaret, it would also make Ella look bad. It didn't add up.

Seeing that William had no objections, Margaret cleared her throat and said, "Back to the point, since I know when the design drawings were swapped, we just need to check the surveillance footage from that time to see who did it."

Ella blurted out, "Isn't the surveillance broken?"

"Oh, the surveillance is broken? Seems like you’re keeping tabs on the small stuff." Margaret sneered.

Yeah, the surveillance that could catch Margaret's workspace had conveniently broken yesterday.

Of course, she knew why the surveillance was broken; it was Ella's doing to make sure there'd be no evidence of the swap today.

Realizing her slip-up, Ella quickly explained, "I just heard it from someone else."

"Did you also hear that the surveillance has been fixed?" Margaret smiled at Ella.

She had secretly had the surveillance repaired, waiting for Ella to trip up.

"Really?" Ella's voice wavered. She had specifically had the surveillance broken yesterday; it couldn't have been fixed so quickly overnight!

William's sharp eyes narrowed. He glanced at Peter, who was standing beside him, and coldly ordered, "Go check the surveillance."
