Chapter 107 A Taste of Her Own Medicine
Margaret grabbed the wine glass and acted like she was chugging half of it. Under the cover of night, she actually slyly dumped out the wine.
Annie didn’t catch on. She thought Margaret had downed the drugged wine and grinned.
Margaret noticed Annie’s smug look and smirked to herself. She started swaying, holding the wine glass in her left hand and propping her head with her right. "Whoa, why do I feel so dizzy?"
"Margaret, you okay? What’s wrong?" Annie asked, pretending to be worried.
"My head’s spinning, and I’m burning up." Margaret put on her best uncomfortable act, leaning weakly against the railing.
"Did you eat something bad? Here, let me help you to the lounge to rest." Annie hid her excitement and stepped forward, pretending to be helpful.
"Okay, thanks." Margaret looked restless, tugging at her dress. "Why’s it so hot all of a sudden?"
"Hang in there, you’ll feel better after a rest." Annie supported Margaret and led her to the lounge.
Annie secretly texted Lucy: [Everything’s going smoothly. Margaret drank the wine. Taking her to the lounge now. In 10 minutes, bring everyone over.]
Annie helped Margaret to the lounge and laid her on the sofa, a hint of malice in her eyes. "Margaret, rest up here."
As she turned to leave, a cold voice stopped her. "Hold it!"
Annie froze and turned around instinctively. Margaret stood up, her eyes sharp, nothing like the weak act she put on earlier.
"Margaret, weren’t you..." Annie’s face was full of shock.
"Weren’t I what?" Margaret sneered and suddenly grabbed Annie, shoving her hard onto the sofa.
Fear surged through Annie. She tried to get up but Margaret held her down firmly.
"What are you doing?" Annie glared at Margaret, a mix of anger and fear. Didn’t she drink the drugged wine? Why was she fine now? Was she faking it earlier? What’s this bitch Margaret planning?
Margaret shook the half-full glass of red wine and said coldly, "Since this wine’s so good, you should have a taste."
"No! Let me go." Annie struggled to push Margaret away.
Margaret held Annie’s head with one hand and poured the remaining wine into her mouth with the other.
Since Annie was so shameless, using dirty tricks to harm her, Margaret wouldn’t hold back. Let Annie face the consequences of her own nasty actions.
Annie's throat burned, and she coughed violently. "Margaret, you bitch! You didn't drink the wine at all. You were faking it!"
"Yeah, I didn't. So what?" Margaret sneered. "Didn't think you'd stoop so low. Since you love this wine so much, enjoy it."
"Margaret, I won't let you get away with this!" Annie glared at her with pure hatred, trying to stand, but the drug hit her hard. Her body went limp, collapsing onto the sofa.
Under the drug's effect, Annie's body heated up, like she had a fever, feeling extremely uncomfortable.
Seeing Annie collapse weakly, Margaret's lips curled into a mocking smile as she turned and left the lounge.
In the ballroom, Lucy clung to William, her heart racing. It was her first time being this close to him. Did his willingness to dance mean he liked her too?
Her heart pounded as she looked up at his handsome face, eyes full of admiration. If only time could stop.
Suddenly, lost in thought, she felt William coldly let go of her.
William's eyes had never left Margaret. The moment he saw her get up and leave, he lost all interest in dancing with Lucy.
"William, where are you going?" Lucy almost stumbled and quickly grabbed him.
William pushed her away, his face expressionless. "I have something to do."
Seeing him return to his usual cold and distant self, Lucy's heart sank. Just a moment ago, everything was perfect. They were dancing so well together, so why did William suddenly change and become so cold towards her?
At that moment, Lucy received a text from Annie. Seeing Annie's message saying everything was going smoothly, Lucy couldn't help but smile.
This was perfect. Margaret took the bait! When William saw Margaret fooling around with another guy, he'd be furious. This time, there was no need to worry about getting rid of that bitch Margaret.
William pushed Lucy away and scanned the ballroom but didn't see Margaret. He frowned, his face serious. What was Margaret up to? Did she really not care about him dancing with Lucy?
Unable to find her, William took out his phone and called, but it was turned off.
William irritably tugged at his tie and suddenly heard Lucy's voice from behind. "William."
"What?" William asked impatiently.
Lucy hesitated. "There's something, I don't know if I should say it."
"What is it?" William asked, his face blank.
"Just now, I saw Margaret with a guy." Lucy bit her lip, leaving her sentence hanging, letting his imagination run wild.
William's expression turned serious. "Where is she?"
