Chapter 49 Don't Tell Me I Have to Help You Take a Bath too
Margaret was totally floored.
"Didn't you say you wanted to repay me for saving your life?" William's face was all serious as he coughed and spoke.
It was just a joke, but he took it way too seriously.
Margaret glanced at William's wound, feeling kinda stuck. "Alright."
The guy did take a knife for her.
Seeing Margaret looking all reluctant, William's eyes showed a hint of disappointment. He took the utensils from her hand, his lips curving slightly. "Just kidding. I'll do it myself."
Margaret let out a sigh of relief. William usually had this cold, noble vibe; when did he start cracking jokes?
Using his left hand was still awkward. William struggled a bit to finish his noodles, then wiped the corner of his mouth with a napkin, all elegant-like. "Not bad."
"As long as you like it." Margaret stood up, ready to clear the table.
"Leave it. I'll have the housekeeper clean it up tomorrow." William rubbed his temples with his long fingers. "I'm tired."
"Let me help you back to your room to rest." Margaret also felt super tired and just wanted to crash early.
After all, there was a ton of work to do tomorrow.
"Okay," William responded faintly.
Margaret put in a lot of effort to help William to his room finally.
As she was about to help him to the bed, he suddenly stopped at the bathroom door. "I'll take a bath first."
Margaret's eyelashes trembled, and she blurted out, "You don't need me to help you bath, do you?"
Seeing Margaret looking all wary, William loosened his tie with his left hand, a teasing smile on his lips. "Go run the water for me."
Resigned, Margaret ran the water for William and tested the temperature. "Alright, you can go in now."
The sound of running water came from the bathroom. Margaret sat on the sofa, planning to ask William which room she should crash in after he finished. But she was too tired and zonked out on the sofa.
When William finished and walked out of the bathroom, he saw Margaret lying on the sofa, fast asleep. Her quiet breathing filled the room.
Her skin was fair and delicate, her eyebrows curved, and the light cast fan-shaped shadows from her long eyelashes onto her cheeks.
William's lips curved slightly, his gaze softening. He bent down and carefully picked Margaret up.
Gently placing her on the bed, William covered her with a thin blanket and then lay down beside her.
"Teddy bear, let me hug you," Margaret, dreaming of hugging a teddy bear, mumbled in her sleep. She turned over and reached out to hug William beside her.
William's body stiffened; the feeling was so familiar.
He reached out and gently stroked Margaret's hair, his eyes flickering. "Marjorie, is it really not you?"
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the curtains, waking Margaret up. She blinked, groggy and confused, and the first thing she saw was a fancy crystal chandelier. Where was she?
She sat up quickly and looked around, realizing she was in William's bed. What the heck happened?
Rubbing her temples, she tried to piece together last night. She remembered William taking a knife for her and then going to bathroom after dinner. But then what? Why couldn't she remember anything? And why was she in his bed?
There were only two people in the house: her and William. If she didn't get into his bed herself, then he must have carried her there. She quickly checked her clothes. Thankfully, nothing seemed to have happened.
At that moment, William pushed the door open and saw Margaret sitting on the bed in a daze. He asked calmly, "You're awake?"
Margaret snapped back to reality. "Why am I here?"
William looked down at her. "Sleeping on the sofa can make you catch a cold."
So it was William who carried her to the bed?
Margaret felt a bit embarrassed.
"There's breakfast in the dining room. Go eat. I'll be working from home today, and I've also taken the day off for you. If you need anything, come to the study." William instructed in a deep voice, then turned and went to the study.
Margaret nodded and looked at the time; it was almost ten o'clock.
Luckily, William had taken the day off for her. Margaret planned to go to the office after breakfast.
The dining table was set with a sumptuous breakfast, and Margaret began to eat heartily.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Margaret frowned slightly. Who could it be at this time?
Opening the door, she saw a tall, beautiful young girl, Abigail.
Abigail was wearing a white dress and holding a thermos. The moment she saw Margaret, her smile froze. "Margaret, what are you doing here!"
"Why can't I be at my fiancé's house?" Margaret's lips curled into a mocking smile. "But you, what are you doing here so early?"
"Where's my cousin?" Abigail looked around but didn't see William.
Last night, William had called to say he was staying at Water Moon Estate, which disappointed Abigail because she wouldn't get to see him.
This morning, she found out from Nora that even Margaret hadn't come home.
Feeling a sense of urgency, Abigail made breakfast and went to the Fisher Group, hoping to use the excuse of delivering breakfast to see William.
Peter mentioned that William had taken the day off, and coincidentally, Margaret hadn't gone to work either. Abigail hurried to Water Moon Estate and found Margaret there. So, Margaret had spent the entire night with William!
Margaret ignored Abigail and returned to the dining room to continue eating her breakfast elegantly.
Abigail, in her high heels, walked into the dining room. She instantly recognized the breakfast spread as William's cooking. He used to make breakfast only to cheer up Bradley when he was sick. But now, he had made breakfast for that bitch Margaret!
Jealousy consumed every cell in Abigail's body. Seeing Margaret ignoring her, she raised her voice. "Margaret, I'm talking to you. Where's William?"
Margaret finished her last bite of breakfast, wiped her mouth, and stood up. "Please move."
"Margaret, who do you think you are?" Abigail blocked Margaret, her eyes filled with undisguised jealousy and disdain. "You're just a country bumpkin. You're not worthy of him!"
Thinking of what she had seen in William's room that night, Margaret retorted sarcastically, "If I'm not worthy, then who is? You?"
"Margaret, stop talking nonsense!" Seeing William's tall figure approaching the dining room, Abigail suddenly screamed and fell straight to the ground. "Margaret, why did you push me!"
