Chapter 351 Mother and Daughter Beneath the Ruins
Seeing Juniper like this, Margaret felt a bit distressed.
She understood Juniper's feelings at this moment, but no matter what, saving lives was the most important thing right now. Whoever was under the rubble needed to be rescued as soon as possible.
Margaret pressed her lips together, took a step forward, and patted Juniper's shoulder reassuringly. "We will find him."
There was no time for more words. Seeing the rescue team and bodyguards starting to move the bricks and debris outside, Margaret also began to help, getting herself covered in dust.
Soon, the obstacles outside were cleared, revealing the fuzzy hair and pigtails of a kid.
"It's a little girl, quick, get her out!" Margaret said with a hint of excitement in her voice.
Now, besides looking for Alden, it was crucial to save as many people as possible. Such a large earthquake must have caused significant casualties, and every life saved was a victory.
Everyone was busy with the rescue, and the digging speed increased.
As more obstacles were cleared, the little girl's cries became clearer.
"Mommy..." The helpless cries of the little girl reached them, and Juniper also put aside her sadness to help.
Hearing the girl's cried, Margaret realized there were two people down there, then she calmly directed the rescue efforts.
Ten minutes later, with everyone's combined efforts, they finally managed to move a large beam that was at the bottom.
Margaret looked down and saw a woman with her head hanging down.
Her indigo jacket was covered in dust and dirt, and it was torn in several places. There was a large dark red stain on her back, indicating she had been hit by a collapsing beam and buried in the rubble. Her exposed skin was covered in numerous wounds, cuts, and bruises, making for a shocking sight.
In the woman's arms was a six or seven-year-old girl.
The little girl seemed to be in much better condition, with only some scrapes. Her face was dirty, streaked with tears mixed with dust and grime, looking very pitiful.
Seeing this, Margaret's heart was touched.
This great mother had used her body to protect her kid.
"Mommy, Wake up." The little girl was stunned for a moment when she saw Margaret and the others, then quickly started crying again, pushing her mother's arm with all her might.
"Someone's here, mommy, wake up!"
Margaret stepped forward to comfort the little girl, "Don't cry, little one."
The rescue team quickly sent people to carefully move the woman out of the rubble and place her on a stretcher.
Juniper frowned, looking worriedly at the woman.
The little girl was taken to a relatively safe open area by the rescue team's doctor, who carefully treated her wounds.
The little girl's voice was hoarse from crying, but she kept looking in the direction of the woman.
She knew Margaret and Juniper were there to save them, so she cried and looked at Margaret, saying, "Miss, please, save my mommy!"
Juniper was constantlytrying to wake the woman up.
The woman's face was pale, and she remained unconscious despite the rescue team's doctor's efforts.
"I'll check on your mom. Don't worry, we'll do our best to save her!" Margaret pressed her lips together. When they were rescuing the woman, it was clear she had been protecting her daughter. Margaret couldn't imagine what it was like when the earthquake struck, with beams and debris falling on her back.
It was likely a grim situation.
After comforting the little girl, Margaret signaled the doctor to take good care of her and walked towards the stretcher.
Juniper slowly stood up, frowning. Margaret came over and checked the woman's condition again. The blood on her arms and legs had dried, indicating she had been buried under the rubble for a long time.
"How is she? Are her wounds bandaged?"
Juniper sighed lightly, glanced at the little girl not far away, and shook her head without saying a word.
Finally, the doctor spoke first. "The earthquake affected a wide area, and she and the little girl were buried under the rubble for so long. It's a miracle they've held on this long. As for the extensive abrasions on her back and body, we've done our best. We don't have the equipment for surgery here, and transferring her to the city would take too long."
The doctor didn't say anything more.
Margaret and Juniper understood what he meant and sighed inwardly.
At that moment, the woman's lips moved slightly, and she tried to lift her hand.
But perhaps due to exhaustion, she could only lift it a little before it fell back down, with just one finger extended. A weak voice came out, "You..."
Margaret and Juniper noticed her change and quickly knelt down. Margaret held the woman's hand, not minding the dirt under her nails, and said, "We're here to rescue you from the mountains. If you have anything to say, just tell us."
The woman struggled to half-open her eyes, but only glanced at them briefly before looking towards the little girl. Her thumb slowly gripped Margaret's finger. "Thank you, she..."
The woman's voice was very weak and faint. Margaret had to lean in close to barely hear her.
Although her words were fragmented, Margaret could roughly understand what the woman wanted.
"Do you want to see your daughter? Okay."
Juniper quickly understood, turned around, and ran towards the little girl and the doctor bandaging her. "Little one, come with me. Your mommy is awake."
The little girl was overjoyed to hear this. She let Juniper hold her hand, walking much faster than before.
When she came over and saw the woman lying on the stretcher, barely alive, she couldn't hold back her tears, which fell instantly. "Mommy! What's wrong with you?"
The woman finally smiled, raised her hand, and her fingers brushed the little girl's face, wiping away her tears. Her voice was very soft and gentle. "Nova, baby, I might not be able to watch you grow up. From now on, you have to take good care of yourself and listen to these adults. I love you and will be watching over you from heaven."
The woman glanced at Margaret, her lips moving. Although she didn't say anything, Margaret felt she understood her emotions. 'Take care of my daughter, thank you.'
