Chapter 64 Lyle is So Perfect
Margaret, feeling a bit lost, hopped into the elevator, heading up to the CEO's office.
William's stern face popped into her head, making her heart do a weird little flip.
She took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
"Come in," William's deep voice rumbled.
Margaret pushed the door open and stepped inside.
William was at his desk, holding a document with those perfectly sculpted hands of his. Every move he made screamed elegance and power, like he was born to rule the world.
"William, what’s up?" Margaret asked, trying to keep her cool.
William looked up, his sharp features serious, his tone icy. "Where were you?"
He'd just wrapped up a meeting and swung by the secretary's office, but Margaret was MIA.
He asked around, and they said she’d stepped out.
She left during work hours without a heads-up.
"'Ice and Fire' samples are ready. I took them to the Royal Palace Hotel for Bruce to check out," Margaret said, keeping it real.
"Is that so?" William's handsome face got even colder. "Why didn’t you show them to me first?"
His intense gaze locked onto Margaret. He could tell she’d been dodging him lately.
Meeting his eyes, Margaret looked away and gave a faint smile. "You didn’t ask me to."
"So, you just did your own thing? As the project leader, don’t you know you need to report to your boss?" William's eyes narrowed, his tone sharp and a bit ticked off.
Margaret was avoiding him so much she skipped reporting?
"I didn’t think it was a big deal. For the Fisher Group, 'Ice and Fire' is just a small project. Plus, I got Bruce’s opinion first. If there are any issues, I’d let you know after fixing them. No harm done," Margaret replied, standing her ground.
Honestly, she had a point.
Jewelry wasn’t the Fisher Group’s main gig, and William usually didn’t care about it.
But ever since Margaret took over, he couldn’t help but keep tabs.
He didn’t want to admit it, but he was actually keeping an eye on Margaret.
"So, what did Bruce say?" William asked with a smirk.
Margaret shook her head. "Nothing."
Bruce had been all praise from start to finish. He loved the design, the production, and the final samples.
"When’s the launch?" William leaned back, curious.
"Real soon. Bruce is thrilled with the samples. Once the ad is shot, I’ll set up a press conference. It’s gonna be huge," Margaret said, smiling confidently.
From design to production, Margaret had her hands in every part of "Ice and Fire." She was sure it would be a global hit.
William nodded, playing it cool. "Who’s the endorser?"
Margaret's eyelids twitched. Did he call her here to grill her about picking Lyle?
She hesitated for a sec and then said, "The female star is a newbie, Annie, Bruce's girlfriend. The male star is Lyle."
The second she mentioned Lyle, William's face tightened up.
"Lyle?" William's eyes narrowed, his face darkening. "Margaret, are you doing this on purpose? Got some hidden agenda?"
This guy was seriously pissed!
How dare she pick Lyle?
Was she trying to flirt with another dude right in front of him?
Margaret rubbed her temples, feeling a bit helpless.
She knew William would flip out like this.
Meeting his icy stare, Margaret said calmly, "William, what kind of twisted thoughts are you having? Bruce picked Lyle. Shouldn't we meet the client's needs? Besides, what's wrong with Lyle? He's got the looks, the build, and the popularity. I think he's the best choice too."
William's face was burning with anger.
Did Margaret really think Lyle was all that?
He suddenly stood up, took a long stride, and got right in her face. "So, is that why you like Lyle?"
Margaret was stunned!
When did she ever say she liked Lyle?
"William, we're talking business here." Margaret didn't want to get into this with him. "If there's nothing else, I'm out."
To dodge the awkwardness with William, Margaret decided to pull an all-nighter at work.
As night fell, she was the only one left in the secretary's office.
Margaret was tweaking the schedule for tomorrow's audition when her phone buzzed.
She checked it and saw Xavier calling.
Margaret quickly answered. "Grandpa."
"Why haven't you called me in ages? You doing okay?" Xavier's cheerful voice came through.
Margaret felt a pang of guilt.
Yeah, it had been a while since she last called him.
"Grandpa, I'm good, just super busy lately," Margaret said with a smile.
"Being busy is good." Xavier laughed heartily. "How's the husband I picked for you?"
"You mean William?" Margaret pursed her lips and said playfully, "Grandpa, your taste is awful. He's stingy, has a bad temper, is unpredictable, and loves to bully people."
"It's rare for someone to be able to bully you. Not bad, not bad," Xavier chuckled. "Get along with William, and you'll see I didn't pick the wrong guy."
With that, Xavier hung up.
Listening to the call disconnect, Margaret was speechless.
She didn't get why Xavier thought so highly of William.
William was unpredictable and often did things that made no sense, making him hard to figure out.
She didn't want her future husband to be such a wild card.
Just as Margaret was about to put her phone away, she suddenly felt a shadow looming over her. She looked up and saw a tall, slender figure.
The guy was dressed in a black suit, blending almost seamlessly with the night. His tall frame leaned against the wall, and two buttons on his shirt were undone, showing off a bit of his muscular chest.
Margaret looked at the man in front of her in surprise.
William?
When did he get here?
