Chapter 409 So It Was Her

"She doesn't know." William's voice was cold, almost icy. He could smell the strong scent of alcohol on Margaret and couldn't help but frown.

"Did you drink at dinner?"

He was pretty ticked off, mainly because Margaret had been hanging out with Lyle. Lyle's behavior at the hospital had already rubbed William the wrong way, and Margaret's quiet tone just now didn't seem like she had just come from a hotel.

Margaret froze for a moment, feeling a sudden pang of guilt. She nodded vaguely, "Everyone was just having a good time, so we had a few drinks."

She walked over to William, intending to say something, but he grabbed her wrist and pulled her to sit beside him.

William leaned in close, their faces inches apart, just a slight move and he could kiss her.

But he didn't.

Instead, he leaned closer to Margaret's left shoulder, then quickly lifted his head. "That's not your usual perfume. Where exactly did you go?"

Margaret knew William's jealousy was flaring up again.

She thought for a moment and decided to be honest, "Lyle got drunk, and I took him home. But when you called, I was just about to leave."

Lyle, again with Lyle!

William had heard this name from Margaret more than once recently, and it made his anger boil. His dark brown eyes flashed with a hint of menace as he pulled Margaret into his arms and kissed her fiercely.

Margaret had experienced this many times before, but it always caught her off guard.

She quickly accepted it, wrapping her arms around William's shoulders and trying to kiss him back. In the heat of the moment, they fell onto the couch. William kissed down Margaret's face, neck, and collarbone, leaving faint marks.

Margaret's body trembled under his touch, ready to bloom like a flower. Her murmured words filled William's ears.

"William, William, be gentle."

The intimate atmosphere was perfect, and Margaret's broken words only fueled the fire. Her clothes were half-off, and William kissed her earlobe tenderly, his hand moving to unfasten the clasp on her back.

"Not now." Whether it was the alcohol or desire, Margaret's face was flushed red, but she still tried to stop William softly.

William understood her meaning and slowly stopped, his finger hooking slightly. They cuddled for a while longer before he stood up and held Margaret in his arms.

Margaret leaned against his chest, feeling shy about what had just happened.

William gently bit her earlobe, "Margaret, I don't like you getting too close to Lyle. I'm your boyfriend, and I hope you'll consider my feelings."

"Alright, I know. I'll be careful, don't worry."

When you like someone, you often feel insecure. Margaret held William's fingers, lowering her head and speaking softly.

"Oh, by the way," she remembered something and turned to William, "I recently met a woman named Anna. I almost hit her with my car when I was visiting Lyle at the hospital."

"What?" William's eyes widened with concern. "Are you okay?"

Margaret couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head to reassure him. "I'm fine. I took her to the hospital. She said she just got back from abroad and doesn't have many friends. Tonight, I ran into her at Wisteria Restaurant. She gave me a lipstick as a thank you."

Margaret's smile faded as she took off her necklace to show William. "But the lipstick was poisoned. I think Anna might be trying to harm me."

"Harm you?" William's brow furrowed deeply, his expression darkening as he saw the dark mark on the silver necklace. "Are you okay? Do you need me to send someone to protect you at work tomorrow?"

Margaret patted his hand reassuringly. "Don't worry, I'm fine. I caught it early. I've already asked someone to investigate who Anna really is."

William finally relaxed a bit, though he still felt uneasy. Just then, Margaret's phone rang. It was Anthony.

"Ada, I found out. Anna is actually Mia."

Margaret's brow furrowed immediately, disbelief in her voice. "Mia? Didn't she fall off a cliff? Wasn't she missing?"

William had been watching Margaret's expression closely. Seeing her frown, he sensed something and mouthed, "What's going on?"

Margaret looked at William, controlled her emotions, and said into the phone, "Alright, I understand. I'll talk to you later, I have something to deal with here."

After hanging up, Margaret looked at William, her expression serious, with a hint of helplessness in her voice. "It's confirmed. Anna is Mia."

"What?" William was shocked, unable to believe Mia was still alive. "Mia? Didn't she fall off a cliff? How is she still alive?"

Margaret chuckled, feeling a bit sentimental. She hadn't expected Mia to return after all this time. Maybe it was fate. "I don't know, maybe she's just lucky. She fell from such a high cliff and survived. But she had plastic surgery. When I saw her, Mia looked completely different."

William pondered for a while, worriedly asking, "What are you going to do next?"

They both knew Mia's temperament well. If she had gone to such lengths before, she would definitely try to harm Margaret again.

"If Mia wants to find me," Margaret sighed. She wasn't a saint. If an enemy came knocking, she wouldn't hide.

William nodded. He trusted Margaret to handle the situation, but Mia was not to be underestimated. He held Margaret's hand, speaking seriously, "Alright, be careful. If anything happens, let me know immediately."

"Okay, I will." Margaret leaned her head on William's shoulder, feeling sweet. William smiled, his anger dissipating, but he quickly warned Margaret again.

"I trust you, but you need to stay away from Lyle, or you'll learn your lesson."
