Chapter 487 Almost Harmed You

"Do you like William?" Zane asked again. He didn't know much about Lucy, but as long as she genuinely liked William, there was hope!

Lucy nodded confidently, crossing her arms. "Yeah, I like him. And I know Margaret, too, so I can help you get her. We both get what we want."

"Deal!" Zane agreed without hesitation, pulling out his phone to exchange contact information with Lucy.

After Zane walked away, Lucy's face twisted into a cold smile. She glanced at the phone number on the screen, satisfied, and put her phone away.

"Fate is on my side."

Back home, Lucy looked around to see if Michael had returned. Seeing he hadn't, she sat on the couch, pretending to wait casually.

About forty minutes later, Michael walked in. Lucy had come home close to 8 PM, and Michael had just returned from a business dinner, his suit reeking of smoke and alcohol.

"Lucy, didn't you go out to relax today?"

Michael seemed used to Lucy often being out. Seeing her, he asked instinctively.

"No, I went shopping for clothes yesterday. I'm exhausted." Lucy replied lazily, tapping her shoulder. "What's that smell on you? I can smell it from the couch. Go take a shower."

"Really?" Michael raised his arm and indeed smelled the pungent smoke. "Seems like it. Some company presidents love to drink. I'll go shower. If there's a call, can you answer it for me?"

Lucy nodded. After Michael placed his phone on the table and went to the bedroom, she listened for sounds upstairs. Once the door closed, she picked up his phone and checked the contacts. Sure enough, she found Margaret's chat window.

Lucy smirked and sent a message to Margaret: "Ms. Scott, can we meet at Golden Crane Hotel, room 302, tomorrow at 4 PM to discuss the cooperation details?"

Margaret was watching TV when she heard her phone buzz. She glanced at it and saw a message from Michael. Seeing the hotel name, she found it odd but replied, "Okay."

Lucy saw Margaret's response and smiled triumphantly.

Now, let's see if that Fleurancia guy can pull this off.

After turning off her phone, Margaret felt increasingly uneasy. William came out of the study and, noticing her mood, asked with concern, "What's wrong?"

Margaret handed him her phone. "Michael asked me to meet him at a hotel room tomorrow at 4 PM to discuss cooperation."

William frowned. He had dealt with Michael before. Though Michael doted on Lucy, he wouldn't arrange business meetings in hotel rooms.

He looked at Margaret. "What are you going to do?"

"Play it by ear." Margaret shook her head, keeping her guard up.

The next afternoon, Margaret arrived at the hotel right on time. After knocking, she heard movement inside. The door opened to reveal Zane's big smile.

"Zane?"

Margaret was puzzled and wary, instinctively stepping back. "What are you doing here?"

Just as expected.

"Shouldn't I be here?" Zane paused, then remembered Lucy's instructions. "Yeah, I came to see you. The gentleman said he had to make a call. Since you're here, have some water."

He walked to the TV cabinet and brought over a glass of water. Lucy had specifically told him to give her this glass.

Zane obediently followed her instructions.

"Okay." Margaret felt increasingly uneasy, so she only sat on the edge of the bed. When Zane handed her the water, she sniffed it cautiously and took a tiny sip. It tasted unusually sweet, almost sickeningly so.

Margaret's expression darkened. She held the glass without drinking more and turned to Zane seriously. "Why are you doing this?"

Zane was baffled by her reaction. Margaret's question seemed absurd to him. "What? I just gave you a glass of water."

Margaret studied Zane's eyes, realizing he genuinely didn't know the water had been tampered with. She sighed, understanding they were both being played.

The culprit was obvious.

"This water is spiked." Margaret placed the glass on the table, pushing it towards Zane. "Someone drugged it."

"What?" Zane stared at the glass, disbelief in his eyes.

Margaret nodded solemnly. "Can you tell me who poured this water? You just arrived in Solstice and only know me and William. I don't believe you'd do this."

Zane hesitated, then recounted his encounter with Lucy after leaving Starlight Entertainment. He explained how Lucy offered to help him. As Margaret listened, her expression grew darker.

Lucy was truly incorrigible. That was the only way to describe her.

"You were tricked. Lucy has always wanted William and hates me. Meeting her was a coincidence, but..." Margaret glanced at the glass, chuckling. "This water wasn't."

Knowing Zane was unaware of her and Lucy's history, Margaret briefly explained. "Lucy is my business partner's sister. You should stay away from her."

Zane finally understood Lucy's so-called help and her connection to Margaret. His face showed disdain. He was young, like Michelle, a recent college graduate, and hadn't expected such schemes.

Though he liked Margaret, he wouldn't use such despicable means to win her over.

"So that's it!" Zane glared at Margaret, looking indignant, which made Margaret laugh. "I thought she genuinely wanted to help me. Margaret, I'm sorry. I almost caused you trouble."
