Chapter 125 Are You Willing to Marry Me?
"I'll go check on William," Margaret said, all eager and stuff.
"But Mr. Cox said no one goes in without his say-so," the bodyguard replied, looking all kinds of stressed.
They knew Margaret was William's fiancée, but orders were orders, so they kept her outside.
Margaret thought for a sec and pulled out her phone to call Peter.
Hearing the phone ring, Peter glanced at the caller ID, saw it was Margaret, and hit the speaker button.
"Ms. Scott, what's up?" Peter asked.
Margaret's voice came through, all anxious and worried. "Has William woken up?"
"Nope, not yet," Peter said calmly, glancing at William chilling on the hospital bed.
Margaret felt a wave of disappointment and bit her lip. "I'm still worried about William. Can I go in and see him?"
Margaret's voice reached William's ears loud and clear. His lips curved into a mysterious smile. Margaret still cared about him.
Peter looked at William for the go-ahead. Seeing William nod slightly, Peter said, "Hang on a sec."
Peter opened the door to the ward and saw Margaret standing there, looking all delicate.
Peter smiled. "Come on in."
"From now on, Ms. Scott can come and go as she pleases," Peter told the bodyguard.
"Is William okay?" Margaret's eyes were glued to the man on the bed, who looked annoyingly handsome even in his "coma."
With his eyes closed, William's heart felt a gentle tickle hearing Margaret's concerned voice.
"Mr. Fisher is fine; he's stable," Peter said with a tight-lipped smile.
"I thought I heard him talking just now," Margaret said, staring hard at William.
"Nope, that was me on the phone." Peter quickly shook his head.
"Got it," Margaret said, a bit bummed out.
Peter looked at Margaret, then at William, and said, "Ms. Scott, since you're here, I'll head out. If you need anything, just ask the bodyguards at the door. They're all Mr. Fisher's trusted guys."
Since Margaret was here, he didn't want to hang around.
"Thanks," Margaret said with a faint smile to Peter.
Peter turned and left the ward, closing the door behind him. In his heart, he wondered if William was faking it to catch the mastermind or just to make Margaret worry.
Sitting by the bedside, Margaret silently watched the man lying there, feeling unusually heavy-hearted. A wave of drowsiness hit her, and she finally couldn't hold on and fell asleep by the bedside.
The ward was super quiet, with only the faint sound of breathing. William, who had been "out cold," slowly opened his eyes.
William's clear and cold gaze softened when it landed on Margaret, who was sleeping by the bedside, and a faint smile appeared on his lips.
William got up quietly and grabbed a thin blanket from the bed to cover Margaret.
In her sleep, Margaret mumbled, "William, you'll be okay."
Feeling a warmth in his heart, William's usually cold eyes softened as he looked at her. Her delicate face showed signs of fatigue, and her lips were pale from exhaustion. She must've been worn out from the past few days.
William leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. "It'll all be over soon."
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the window, hitting Margaret's face. The light woke her up, and she was surprised to find a blanket over her.
She remembered falling asleep in a daze last night. 'How did I end up with a blanket? Could it have been William? Is he awake?'
With a mix of excitement and anticipation, Margaret looked at the bed. But William still lay there with his eyes closed, unconscious.
Her heart sank.
Memories of her time with William flooded her mind. His protection, his care, risking his life to shield her from the falling ceiling—each moment lingered in her thoughts.
"William, you can't be hurt. Wake up soon. If you wake up, I'll do anything for you," Margaret said, her eyes welling up with tears.
"Really? Will you marry me?" Just as Margaret was lost in thought, a clear voice, like a heavenly melody, sounded in her ear. It was so familiar.
'William! It's William's voice!' Overcome with joy, Margaret looked at the bed and saw the man who had been unconscious suddenly open his eyes.
"William, you're awake?" Margaret's face lit up with a genuine, radiant smile. Her tense heart finally relaxed at that moment.
William smiled slightly and raised an eyebrow. "Do you mean what you just said?"
"What did I say?" Margaret was momentarily stunned, then remembered what she had said earlier.
Meeting William's teasing gaze, Margaret suddenly realized and angrily glared at him, pounding his chest with her fists. "William, you were pretending!"
William's large palm grabbed Margaret's hand and pressed it to his chest. "Margaret, can you feel my heart beating for you?"
Feeling his firm muscles, Margaret's face turned red. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself and then asked coldly, "William, why were you pretending to be unconscious?"
"What do you think?" William asked with a smile.
Margaret thought for a moment. "You already have an idea who orchestrated the explosion, don't you?"
William nodded slightly. "I suspect it's Jones, but I don't have any evidence yet."
Margaret understood. "So you pretended to be unconscious to make Jones think his plan succeeded. When he makes his next move, you'll catch him in the act?"
William didn't answer directly but looked deeply at Margaret. "Did you mean what you said earlier?"
