Chapter 230 Proposing in Public

Watching Lyle stroll up to her, Margaret's eyebrows knitted just a bit.

Lyle stopped right in front of her, in front of everyone, and said in a deep, serious voice, "Margaret, the person I owe the most thanks to is you."

All eyes zeroed in on Margaret. Especially Mia, who was shooting daggers at her with pure jealousy.

Margaret gave a little smirk and shot Lyle a look that said, "What the heck are you doing? Cut it out."

Remembering how Lyle had kept saying tonight was gonna be the biggest moment of his life, Margaret got a sinking feeling. 'Is he seriously gonna confess to me again?'

But Lyle wasn't paying any attention to Margaret's silent protests. He grabbed her hand and pulled her to the center of the stage.

The lights hit Lyle, making him look like he was glowing. He looked at Margaret. "Margaret, you've always been the one pushing me, supporting me. You gave me the drive to keep going. Everything I have today is because of you, and I wanna share my success with you."

"Congrats, Lyle," Margaret said, giving his hand a light shake and keeping her cool. "Your success is all yours, nothing to do with me."

"No, Margaret. Everything I have is because of you. You're my reason to push myself, to succeed, to give you a happy life. You're the most important person in my world." Lyle held her hand tight, staring into her eyes with all the love in the world.

Seeing Lyle getting all worked up, Margaret was kinda at a loss. She gave him a few looks, trying to get him to stop. But Lyle wasn't having it. He suddenly dropped to one knee.

He looked up, took a deep breath, and with a voice as deep and smooth as a cello, but dead serious, said, "Margaret, marry me!"

As he finished, rose petals started falling from the top of the stage, landing softly on both of them, making the whole scene super romantic.

Margaret pulled her hand back, her face staying calm. She was speechless. 'What is Lyle doing? Is he nuts? Not just confessing, but proposing? In front of all these people? This is an award show! A globally broadcasted one. Does he think I can't say no in front of everyone?'

Honestly, she really couldn't say no right now. If she turned him down, Lyle would be a laughingstock worldwide. It'd be bad news for both Lyle and Starlight Entertainment.

Margaret definitely didn't want that. But if she didn't say no...

Margaret's head was starting to hurt.

Seeing her stay quiet, Lyle spoke up again, "Margaret, will you say yes? I'll make you the happiest woman ever, trust me."

Margaret suddenly spaced out for a second. William had once told her, "Margaret, trust me, I'll make you the happiest woman in the world."

That memory popped into her head, and Margaret couldn't help but glance at the crowd. That distinguished man was chilling in a dark corner, and she couldn't quite make out his face. But even from way over there, she could still feel William's icy vibe.

Margaret stayed quiet, and things started to get a bit awkward. Seeing this, Bruce jumped in with a lively tone, "Wow, Lyle's pulling out all the stops, proposing at an award show. Bet a ton of fans are jealous of Ms. Scott right now. Ms. Scott, what's holding you back?"

Everyone was stunned by the sudden proposal. It wasn't until Bruce spoke that they snapped out of it.

"Come on, let's give it up for Lyle!" Bruce, being Lyle's buddy, knew all along about the proposal plan. He even helped Lyle set it up. But he didn't expect Margaret to be so silent.

Lyle stayed on one knee, his eyes full of hope and a bit of worry. "Margaret, will you say yes?" Lyle asked again.

Margaret pressed her lips together, a million ways to respond racing through her mind. But none seemed to fix the mess they were in.

Margaret made up her mind and was about to speak when a woman suddenly rushed up. "Margaret, you shameless witch!"

It was Mia.

"Mia, what the heck are you doing?" Lyle stood up, frowning at her.

"Margaret, I'm Lyle's fiancée!" Mia yelled, raising her hand to slap Margaret. Lyle stepped in front of Margaret, grabbing Mia's arm. "Mia, that's enough!"

Taking a deep breath, Lyle said, "Today, in front of everyone, I'm setting things straight. I, Lyle Pennington, have nothing to do with you!"

"Lyle, are you really gonna be this cold to me?" Mia's eyes were red. She had come to the award show all happy, not expecting Lyle to propose to Margaret in public! In a fit of rage, Mia rushed up.

The crowd, hungry for drama, got excited and started whispering.

"Didn't expect this award show to be so wild."

"I heard Lyle was engaged to Mia, and now he's proposing to Margaret in public. What's the Davis family gonna do?"

"Engagement or not, Lyle's clearly head over heels for Margaret."

"Margaret's something else. She just broke off her engagement with Mr. Fisher, and now she's got Lyle proposing at an award show. Impressive!"

All kinds of nasty comments reached Lyle's ears. His face darkened, and he glared at Mia. "Mia, I didn't want to air your dirty laundry, but since you're pushing it, I won't hold back. When the Pennington family was in trouble, you ditched me and ran off abroad with another guy! The moment you left without a word, our engagement was over!"
