Chapter 384 How Could I Let You Down
As William finished speaking, he flashed an apologetic smile.
Angel's fingers, resting on the edge of the table, tightened slightly, and her chewing slowed. After William finished talking, she nodded thoughtfully after a second or two and said, "Alright, William, go ahead and take care of your work. Don't worry about me."
The meal ended quickly. William stood up and headed to his study, while Angel watched his back the entire time.
When William reached the study door, he paused and turned halfway to Angel, saying, "This project is about to launch soon. Besides double-checking the plan, I have a lot of other tedious tasks to handle. It might get boring. You can find something fun to do on your own, okay?"
William's words were gentle and caring, like a loving husband. Angel couldn't help but smile and nod, "It's fine, William. Go ahead and get busy."
Angel sat down on the couch, glancing at the study door as it closed, her eyes filled with deep thoughts.
She held her phone, clearly hesitant.
Now that she knew the North Bay project was about to start, it meant she had completed half of the task Jack had given her, and William completely trusted her.
Next, she just needed to inform Jack and steal the project plan when William wasn't around...
But Jack would only tighten his control over her, making it impossible for her to escape.
No!
Angel's pupils contracted.
She had to make William completely hers during this time. That was the best strategy.
Angel put down her phone, flipping it over on the couch, and busied herself in the kitchen.
Half an hour later, Angel carried a bowl of pumpkin soup and knocked on the study door.
Hearing a "come in" from inside, she dared to push the door open. The first thing she saw was William typing on his laptop.
"William," Angel called sweetly, walking over with the bowl. "Work is important, but I noticed you didn't eat much tonight, so I made you some soup. Try it while it's hot."
"Thank you."
William paused his work, turning to look at her with a gentle smile as she tried to peek at his screen.
"But I'm not hungry right now. Just leave the soup here, and I'll drink it later."
Angel bit her lip. William had been like this for days—gentle and polite, making her miss several opportunities. No, this time she had to succeed!
She paused, then continued smiling, "It’s best to drink it while it’s hot. It won’t taste as good if it cools down."
As she spoke, she moved the bowl closer. Just as William was about to refuse, Angel's hand "accidentally" shook, spilling the soup onto his clothes.
William frowned instinctively, stepping back.
Seeing this, Angel's face filled with panic. She quickly set the bowl aside and grabbed some napkins to help William clean up.
"I'm so sorry, William. It was an accident..."
"It's okay." William sighed deeply, shaking his head to comfort Angel. "It's not your fault. This shirt needed washing anyway."
Angel continued to wipe the soup stains off William's shirt, her face full of concern. But even after cleaning, a yellow stain remained on the once-clean shirt.
Angel gasped softly, looking apologetically at the stain. "William, let me get you a clean set of pajamas."
Soon, Angel returned from the closet with a fresh set of pajamas. She reached out to help William unbutton his shirt, but he stepped back.
Angel paused, looking up at him with a hurt expression. "William, are you avoiding me? I just want to help you change."
"It's not that."
William was silent for a moment, recalling what Margaret had told him. He swallowed his initial refusal and finally nodded, allowing Angel to help him change.
As she unbuttoned his shirt, revealing his well-toned chest from years of working out, Angel kept her eyes down, her fingers lingering on his muscles.
Her fingertips gently caressed William's chest, and she looked up at him with a smile. William averted his gaze, subtly avoiding her eyes.
"William, do you like me? Why do I feel like you've been avoiding me lately?"
"Of course not."
William gathered his thoughts and emotions, turning back to her. He held her wrist to stop her wandering hands.
Looking deeply into Angel's eyes, he said, "I've just been really busy. I don't want to be half-hearted when I'm with you."
William tucked a strand of Angel's hair behind her ear. "Angel, I want to save our intimacy for our wedding day. You've been so good to me; how could I ever let you down?"
Angel smiled happily, hugging William's waist and resting her head on his chest, nodding earnestly.
It seemed William's heart was completely hers now. The title of Mrs. Holt was within reach.
Phoenix City.
Samuel had been staying at Juniper's house for several days. He agreed with his manager to keep the rumors under wraps for now, not wanting to disturb Juniper. He planned to address everything personally when he returned to Ravenford.
Spending so much time with Juniper made Samuel happy, and he hoped it would last longer.
But Juniper didn't feel the same.
During lunch, Juniper put down her fork and casually mentioned to her parents, "Mom, Dad, Samuel, and I have been here for a while. I have work waiting for me in Ravenford. If you don't mind, we should head back soon."
Under the table, Juniper nudged Samuel's foot, signaling him to back her up.
Samuel immediately caught on, setting down his fork and flashing his signature smile at her parents. "Yes, I snuck away from work to come here with Juniper. I'm sure there's a lot waiting for me back at the office."
