Chapter 223 Conclusive Evidence

Margaret crossed her arms and shot Angel a smirk. So, Jack's dinner invite was all part of his master plan, huh? Margaret was now dead sure there was some shady business going on between Jack and Angel.

Angel's eyes darted around, and she bit her lip, sneaking a glance at William's icy stare. She stammered, "William, here's the deal. I got a friend who waits tables at that restaurant. She saw Margaret and Jack together that night and snapped a pic."

"Oh, how convenient! What's your friend's name? Her employee number?" Margaret's face turned stormy. "Let's call her up and see if I took Jack's check!"

Angel's fingers clenched. "Margaret, cut the crap! The proof's right here. You took Jack's bribe and spilled the Fisher Group's bid to BPL, making William lose the North Bay project!"

"So, you're saying I told Jack the bid that night?" Margaret sneered. "But the bid was only finalized with William the next morning. Do I have a crystal ball or something?"

Margaret paused and looked up at William, who was sitting there like an untouchable king. "Right, William?"

William's chiseled face was dark, his lips a tight line. He gave a faint nod.

Angel scoffed, "Then you leaked the bid to BPL after it was confirmed!"

"Is that so?" Margaret's smile was icy.

"Of course!" Angel glared at Margaret, jealousy burning in her eyes.

When Angel looked at William, her gaze softened. "William, have someone check Margaret's computer, and we'll see the truth!"

"Why check my computer?" Margaret pretended to resist. "I didn't do anything wrong, so there's nothing to find."

"What? Margaret, scared?" Angel taunted, itching to get Margaret's computer checked. She had already set up a foolproof trap, thinking Margaret couldn't wriggle out of this one!

Margaret leaked the Fisher Group's bid, causing the company to lose the North Bay project and tarnishing its reputation. William wouldn't let her off easy! At the very least, she'd get canned; at worst, she'd be reported to the cops and thrown in jail!

Seeing Angel's eagerness, Margaret lifted her chin defiantly.

"I didn't do it, so what do I have to fear?" Margaret said, her lips curling.

Angel's jealous eyes bore into Margaret, like daggers ready to slice her apart. She pressed on, "Margaret, if you're really innocent, why not let them check?"

Margaret was about to reply when William's cold voice cut through the air. "Peter, get Margaret's computer and bring in an IT expert."

"Yes, Mr. Fisher!" Peter said respectfully and hurried off.

Angel's heart did a happy dance. She couldn't help but think, 'William's got my back. By having Peter check Margaret's computer, he's basically saying he believes me, that Margaret's the one who leaked the bid!'

Margaret narrowed her eyes and spoke calmly, "William, do you really think I leaked the Fisher Group's bid?"

William's icy stare landed on Margaret, and he slowly smirked. "I'll get to the bottom of this."

He paused, his gaze growing more intense. "And clear your name."

William didn't buy for a second that Margaret would pull something like this. If it was about cash, Margaret could just come back to him and be the queen of the Fisher Group, rolling in dough. Why bother scheming with BPL?

But Angel's sudden switch from her usual meek self to accusing Margaret so fiercely caught William off guard. He needed the truth. The rumor mill was already churning, and there were tons of nasty reports and comments about Margaret online, which were seriously bad news for her. Only by uncovering the truth could Margaret's name be cleared.

"Thanks." Margaret felt a warm glow inside hearing that. She hadn't expected William to not just swallow Angel's story and actually trust her.

Soon enough, Peter showed up with the IT expert and Margaret's computer. The IT guy fired up the computer and started typing away. Ten minutes later, he stood up and respectfully said to William, "Mr. Fisher, the bid was indeed sent from this computer."

As soon as the expert finished, Angel jumped in, "Margaret, what do you have to say now?"

Margaret stayed cool and collected. "Angel, even if the bid was sent from my computer, that doesn't prove squat."

"Doesn't prove squat?" Angel snarled. "The bid was leaked from your computer. If not you, then who?"

"Why couldn't it be someone else?" Margaret's face was calm. "Someone could've messed with my computer and set me up!"

"Can you find out the exact time the bid was sent?" Angel asked the IT guy.

The IT expert nodded. "Give me a sec."

He sat back down, worked for a few minutes, and then said, "Got it. It was sent at 10:30 AM yesterday."

"William, we just need to check the security footage to see who was on this computer at 10:30 AM yesterday, and we'll know the truth." Angel's voice was buzzing with excitement. All the evidence pointed to Margaret. This time, she couldn't weasel out of it!

"No need to check the footage. I was at my desk at that time," Margaret said calmly, pursing her lips.

"So you admit to leaking the bid?" Angel shot back coldly.

"I only admit that I was at my desk at 10:30 AM yesterday. You're pretty good at twisting things," Margaret said, smirking.

Angel glared at Margaret and marched over to William. "William, the evidence is clear. It was Margaret. Why don't we call the cops?"

William's eyes narrowed, and just as he was about to speak, Margaret smiled faintly and then shot a sharp look at Angel. "Angel, are you sure you want to call the cops? You know damn well who leaked the bid."

"Margaret, what are you getting at?" Angel's body tensed under Margaret's cold stare.

Margaret stepped forward, her voice firm. "I mean, the real person who leaked the Fisher Group's bid is you, Angel!"
