Chapter 415 The Rich
Angel couldn't help but feel a bit upset when she heard that, and her face showed a hint of disappointment.
She had been trying to get close to William for a while now, but he always had excuses like being busy with work or not having time, rejecting her advances multiple times.
Over time, she couldn't help but feel insecure.
Angel pouted and looked up at William, wanting to argue, but his reasons were so logical that she couldn't find a suitable argument.
[Besides, we're getting engaged tomorrow.]
As this thought crossed her mind, her worries and little temper vanished.
After all, she was about to become William's rightful wife, so what was there to be sad about if it happened a bit later?
With that in mind, Angel obediently nodded, but as she left, she still felt a bit reluctant. She turned back to look at William, her eyes filled with longing, and said slowly, "I'll go back to my room now. You should get some rest, too, William."
"Alright." William nodded, and as the door closed, he visibly relaxed, rubbing his temples as his frown eased.
That was close.
The next morning, Angel came out of her room looking cheerful, humming a tune as she prepared breakfast.
She heard footsteps behind her and smiled even more. As the footsteps grew clearer and closer, she turned around, only to see William dressed in a suit, clearly ready for work.
Angel was stunned, and her smile began to fade. Weren't they supposed to get engaged today?
She looked at William in confusion and hesitantly asked, "William, aren't we having our engagement ceremony today? What's going on?"
William paused, looked at his outfit, and then laughed as he explained, "There's a meeting at the office today. I need to go to work, but I'll be back later."
Angel set the breakfast on the table, her eyes showing concern. "Why do you have to work today?"
Her face clearly showed disappointment and even a bit of resentment.
William sighed, walked over, and gently hugged Angel, patting her back as he softly reassured her, "It's just a small meeting, it won't take long. The engagement ceremony is in the evening, and I'll definitely be at the banquet hall on time. I won't leave you there alone, okay?"
Angel's expression softened a bit, and she wrapped her arms around William's shoulders, smiling as she nodded.
"Okay, I'll wait for you."
As long as she could get engaged and married to William, she didn't mind waiting a bit longer.
After William finished breakfast and left for work, Angel visibly relaxed. She was in a great mood, and the thought of their engagement ceremony that evening made her feel lighter.
She felt so happy that she almost felt like she was floating.
Feeling a bit bored, she lazily sat on the couch and decided to call her good friend Amy, whom she used to sing with at the bar.
"Amy, where are you? Are you free?"
"Well, if it isn't the busy bee. I saw on the news that you're getting engaged to the CEO of the Fisher Group today. What made you think of calling me?"
A woman with long, chestnut hair held her phone between her ear and shoulder, spraying herself with a large bottle of cheap perfume. Her voice was lazy and teasing.
Hearing Amy's words, Angel couldn't help but laugh. "Oh, stop it. The engagement ceremony is in the evening. William had to go to work. By the way, can you gather our old friends from the bar and come with me to get ready? I can't look shabby tonight."
"Look at you, about to become a rich man's wife. Sure, they were just talking about you the other day. It's not time for our gigs yet. Do you want to send me the address, or should we come to you?"
"I'll send you the address. You guys come over, and we'll go together."
After a brief chat, Angel hung up and sent her apartment address to Amy.
At a high-end salon, a group of women with heavy makeup walked in, laughing and chatting, with Angel in the center.
Angel placed a membership card on the counter and found her usual stylist, smiling as she said, "Make it elegant, not too flashy. I have an engagement ceremony today."
The stylist nodded with a knowing smile. Everyone knew about the Fisher Group CEO's engagement. With such a wealthy client, how could he not take it seriously?
"Got it, Ms. Walsh. You'll be the most beautiful bride."
This made Angel even happier.
The women with her were friends she had met while singing at the bar, and they were all close. At that moment, they were looking around the salon.
A round-faced girl sat next to Angel, looking at her in the mirror with envy.
"Marjorie, you've really changed since meeting a rich guy. You look so refined now, and you're going to places we never even dreamed of. How much does all this cost?"
"Exactly," said a short-haired woman behind Angel, resting her hand on the chair's back. Her black, diamond-studded nails were eye-catching. "But she was always the most popular at the bar, with a great voice. And she's Mr. Fisher's childhood friend. It's no surprise they're together now."
She gently patted Angel's shoulder.
"Marjorie, you're the most successful among us. Don't forget about us in the future."
"Yeah, your speech and manners are different now. Once you're Mrs. Fisher, you'll have even more connections. If you meet any heirs, introduce them to us, okay?"
"Come on," Amy said, laughing as she pushed the chattering women away from Angel. "What are you all talking about? Being with Mr. Fisher is Marjorie's achievement. It's her engagement day. Can you be serious? There are people watching."
