Chapter 493 Only Talking Nonsense

William pulled Margaret to her feet and, with a deliberate change in his tone, said, "Hey, didn't you say you missed Xavier? Perfect timing, let's head over to the old house and see them. Bet they're having a blast."

Margaret nodded. Xavier and Bradley had been friends for decades, so naturally, they got along well.

They got ready and left the house. When they arrived at the old house, they ran into a gardener watering the flowers.

"Where's Grandpa?" William asked the gardener, holding Margaret's hand.

The gardener smiled upon seeing them. "Mr. Bradley Fisher is in the study playing chess with Xavier. They'll be thrilled to see you."

William's lips curled into a faint smile. As he and Margaret approached the study, they could hear Xavier's booming voice discussing the chess game, sounding very happy.

William and Margaret exchanged a smile. William knocked on the door, and soon they heard a voice from inside saying, "Come in." William then gently led Margaret inside.

"Grandpa," they both called out simultaneously. Bradley and Xavier looked up and, upon seeing them, their faces lit up with smiles. "Come on in! We were just talking about you two the other day. Why didn't you call before coming back?"

"We wanted to surprise you," Margaret said, her eyes crinkling with a smile. Seeing Bradley made all her worries and anxieties disappear.

She had grown up with Bradley, and their bond was exceptionally strong.

Xavier's face lit up with a warm smile when he saw Margaret, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Margaret, it's only been a few days, and you look like you've lost weight. How have you been?"

As he spoke, Xavier glanced at William. Although he was pleased with William, the thought of Margaret getting married soon made him a bit reluctant.

"Tell Grandpa, he hasn't been bullying you, has he?"

William shook his head with a helpless smile, while Margaret looked down with a gentle smile, reassuring Xavier, "Grandpa, don't worry. William has always treated me well. You can rest easy."

Bradley chimed in, "Don't worry, Xavier. I've watched William grow up. He's a good kid with no bad intentions. And if he ever mistreats Margaret, I'll be the first to deal with him."

Xavier huffed playfully, "He's a good kid, but Margaret is my precious granddaughter. Just because she's marrying William doesn't mean I can't ask about it."

"Alright, alright, you two. Don't argue over this. William and I are doing great, so you can both relax," Margaret said, trying to mediate.

Bradley slapped his forehead. "I didn't know you two were coming back today, so I didn't have the staff prepare your favorite dishes."

He started to get up to call someone, but Margaret quickly stopped him, speaking kindly, "No need, Grandpa. William and I rarely get the chance to visit. How about we cook for you today? You can taste our cooking."

Xavier and Bradley exchanged a glance and agreed.

Two hours later, Margaret and William had whipped up a variety of delicious dishes. The two elderly men had already come out of the study and were waiting at the dining table. The meal was filled with laughter and joy.

"Margaret, your cooking is amazing. This is the best meal I've had in a long time," Bradley said, looking spirited and happy. Xavier, sitting beside him, looked proudly at Margaret, as if to say, "See, that's my wonderful granddaughter."

Around eight in the evening, Bradley came downstairs and was chatting with Margaret when the butler approached. "Mr. Bradley Fisher, since Mr. William Fisher and Ms. Margaret Scott are back, what about their rooms?"

"Oh dear!" Bradley exclaimed, as if suddenly remembering. He turned to the butler, "I recall that all the rooms upstairs are rented out, right? Is William's room the only one left?"

The butler hesitated, then caught on to Bradley's intention. "Yes, yes. You mentioned wanting to try renting out the rooms for a few days, so now only Mr. William Fisher's room is available."

Margaret and William were taken aback. Rented out? How could that be?

William understood Bradley's intention and just smiled quietly without objecting.

Bradley gave the butler an approving look and then said casually, "Alright, go ahead and arrange it."

After the butler left, Bradley turned to Margaret. "Margaret, I know you and William aren't officially married yet, but it seems there's no other choice. Why don't you stay in William's room tonight? After all, we're all family here, and I'm not an old stickler."

Margaret blushed, feeling a bit embarrassed. William tried to smooth things over, "Grandpa, you..."

Xavier, with a knowing look, exchanged a glance with Bradley. They both stood up, one after the other, saying, "Oh, we're getting old and tired. We won't disturb you, young folks. We're heading to bed."

In the end, Margaret had no choice but to stay in William's room. Lying in bed, she felt a bit awkward, not knowing where to place her hands and feet.

Although they were engaged and had shared intimate moments, this was the first time they were spending the night in the same bed. When William came out of the bathroom, he saw Margaret lying there, clutching the edge of the blanket, looking very tense.

He couldn't help but chuckle, finding her quite adorable.

He lifted the blanket and lay down beside her, reaching out to gently touch her fingertips. He could feel her fingers stiffen. "What's wrong? Why are you so nervous?"

Margaret's ears turned red. Even though there was some distance between them, she felt as if she could sense his breath, almost as if they were pressed close together.

She swallowed nervously, her voice a bit shaky. "Nothing... I'm just a little nervous."

William chuckled softly and, without hesitation, wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her closer. "There's nothing to be nervous about. We've shared a room before. You don't need to be afraid."

With only a dim nightlight on, casting a warm glow, Margaret found herself looking into William's eyes, feeling shy. "You... you never talk like this at work."

William smiled, his voice soft and reassuring. "Well, work is work. This is different. Here, it's just us."
