Chapter 154 Lyle's Way of Wishing Her Well
"Lyle, c'mon, don't be like this," Margaret sighed, turning to look at him. "I mean, I found my true love. You should be happy for me, right?"
Lyle felt a bitter sting in his chest. He'd been chasing Margaret for two whole years, but it didn't hold a candle to her one-month fling with William.
Man, what a loser he felt like.
After a few minutes of awkward silence, Lyle's handsome face was back to its usual calm. He looked deep into Margaret's eyes. "I wish you happiness."
Loving someone didn't mean you had to own them. As long as Margaret was happy, he was cool with just wishing her well from the sidelines.
"Thanks," Margaret finally exhaled, relieved. It was better if Lyle got it; she didn't want him stuck in a bad place.
"So, are we still friends?" Lyle hesitated, then asked.
Margaret smiled, confident. "Of course."
When they got to Starlight Entertainment, Margaret checked out the latest work schedule and nodded, satisfied. "Yeah, this plan looks solid. Let's roll with it for the new product shoot next quarter."
"As long as you're happy," Lyle said, trying to sound casual. He'd pulled several all-nighters to get this plan done. If it made Margaret happy, he'd do whatever it took.
Lyle then walked Margaret through the next phase of actor recruitment, and she tossed in some suggestions. By the time they wrapped up, it was already dusk.
"I'm heading back," Margaret said, handing the revised plan to Lyle and standing up.
"I'll drive you home." Lyle followed her.
After a quick thought, Margaret nodded.
By the time they got back to Water Moon Estate, it was dark. Lyle got out and opened the passenger door for Margaret. "We're here."
Margaret stepped out and smiled at Lyle. "Thanks for the ride."
She turned to walk towards William's house but heard Lyle call out, "Margaret."
"Hmm?" She paused and turned back.
Lyle quickly closed the gap, hugging her before she could react, and whispered in her ear, "Margaret, I wish you all the happiness and joy!"
His sudden closeness made Margaret uneasy. She stepped back and said, "Thanks."
Up on the third-floor balcony, William held a wine glass, glaring at the scene below.
After the press conference today, Margaret had left with Lyle in front of everyone, leaving him alone at the Fisher Group. Did she have any idea how hard it was for him not to storm over to Starlight Entertainment and drag her back? While he was sulking at home, was Margaret getting all cozy with Lyle?
Margaret pulled out her keys and opened the door. The living room was dark. 'Hasn't William come home yet?'
Margaret was about to flick on the light when a gloomy voice cut through the darkness. "Finally decided to come back, huh?"
It was William.
She spun around and saw him sitting on the living room sofa, his black suit barely visible in the moonlight streaming through the window.
Margaret turned on the light and was about to drop her handbag when suddenly, she was shoved against the door. William's tall frame loomed over her. The strong smell of booze hit her, and she frowned. "William, what the hell are you doing?"
William, radiating cold fury, spoke icily, "Margaret, what were you doing with Lyle?"
Margaret smirked. "Didn't I tell you? I was getting an autographed photo for a friend."
William's handsome face was twisted with anger, his cold eyes locked on her. The image of Lyle and her being close downstairs flashed in his mind. He grabbed her chin and kissed her hard.
"William, let go!" Pain shot through her chin, and her words were cut off by his forceful kiss.
His kiss was rough and punishing, making it hard for her to breathe. She struggled but couldn't break free, so she stopped resisting. She knew what William was upset about, and yeah, she had kinda messed up.
After what felt like forever, William finally pulled back, his face still grim, his voice icy. "Did Lyle kiss you like this too?"
"What the hell are you talking about?" Margaret panted, glaring at him.
"Wasn't it Lyle who brought you back? Why did he hug you? You were together all afternoon? What were you doing?" William's dark eyes were deep and filled with uncontrollable anger.
"William, you're drunk." Margaret pushed him away and walked towards the sofa.
The next second, he grabbed her waist, and she lost her balance, falling onto the sofa.
William pinned her down, his voice cold. "I'm very sober. Margaret, are you regretting it? Or did you only agree to be with me because we were stranded on that island, and you thought we'd never come back?"
Margaret felt baffled. "Is that what you think of me?"
"Then tell me, what is your deal with Lyle?" William suppressed his anger, his voice heavy.
Overwhelmed by his jealousy, Margaret thought for a moment and said calmly, "I can only tell you that Lyle and I are friends. He did bring me back just now, and you saw him hug me. That was his way of wishing me well. There's nothing more between us."
"Wishing you well?" William frowned.
"Yeah, because I told him I found the guy I want to spend my life with, and that guy is you. William, can you chill out now?"
"Really?" William's face finally relaxed a bit.
Margaret nodded. "Yeah, it's true. But..."
"But what?" William asked.
"But you wronged me so much, I need to reconsider my choice," Margaret said with a faint smile, half-joking.
"No reconsidering! Once you agree, you can't back out!" William said, lowering his head to kiss her again.
