Chapter 211 If I Pursue You Again
William's icy vibe hit Margaret like a ton of bricks, making her stop in her tracks.
"If we ain't talking business, what else is there to chat about during work hours? Besides, there's nothing personal between us worth mentioning," Margaret shot back, cool as a cucumber.
"Really? Nothing at all?" William's deep eyes locked onto Margaret's face, a hint of curiosity in them.
Their eyes met, and the familiar feeling from the guy in front of her made Margaret a bit dizzy. She bit her lip and said, "If we gotta talk personal, I'm supposed to give your grandpa his first acupuncture session this afternoon. You coming with?"
"Yeah." William nodded, barely moving.
Thinking about Bradley's condition, William felt a bit down. He really hoped Margaret would nail it this afternoon and help Bradley out.
"If that's all, I'm outta here," Margaret said, her mind already on the North Bay project. She hadn't expected the president of BPL to be the dude she ran into at the airport that day. It told her straight up that things were gonna get complicated.
Margaret wanted Anthony to dig into Jack's background so the rest of the work could go smoothly.
Just as she was about to bounce, a strong grip hit her waist. William's well-defined hand wrapped around her waist, trapping her.
"William, what the hell are you doing?" Margaret's breath caught as she asked.
"What's the deal with you and Lyle?" William's brows knitted, his lips barely moving.
Margaret frowned. Back in the day, before she and William called off their engagement, he was always super nosy about her and Lyle. She used to act like he was just being a pain. But deep down, she kinda liked it. William's nosiness about her and Lyle, did it mean he actually gave a damn about her? Seeing her with another guy, he got jealous.
But now, they were done, so why did William still care about her and Lyle?
Seeing her stay quiet, William's face tightened, and he asked with a frown, "Are you really with Lyle? You know he's got a fiancée, right?"
Margaret rubbed her temples. "You mean Mia Davis?"
"Yeah." William nodded. "Lyle and Mia have been engaged since they were kids."
"So what? When Lyle hit rock bottom, Mia ditched him and ran off with another guy. Does that still count as a valid engagement?" Margaret smirked sarcastically.
"As long as they haven't officially called it off, Mia's still Lyle's fiancée." As soon as he finished, William suddenly grabbed Margaret's chin. With a bit of force, he made her look up and meet his eyes.
"Margaret, didn't you once say your future husband had to be all about you, no other chicks in his heart? Lyle not only has a fiancée but also chased his boss for two years. Why are you still with him?"
Meeting William's icy stare, Margaret let out a light laugh. "Do you actually care about my thing with Lyle?"
"Yeah. I care a lot." William's gaze got even more intense. His eyes were like a stormy sea.
Margaret took a deep breath, locked eyes with him, and asked, "Why?"
"Because I care about you," William said in a deep voice.
Margaret's heart skipped a beat.
William leaned down and whispered hoarsely in her ear, "You should know how I feel about you."
His warm breath almost brushed against Margaret's neck, making it tingle. Their current position was so close that Margaret's face turned a bit red.
"What about Marjorie? Isn't she the one you care about?" Margaret's eyes turned cold as she asked.
Seeing her like this, William chuckled. "Margaret, are you jealous?"
"We're nothing to each other anymore. Why would I be jealous?" Margaret shot back with a smile.
William's face turned colder. His eyes darkened as he stared at Margaret for a few seconds, raised an eyebrow, and said meaningfully, "Then what if I start chasing you again now?"
Before he could finish, there was a sudden knock on the door, "William, you in there?"
It was Angel.
Before William could respond, Angel impatiently pushed the door open. What she saw was Margaret and William in an intimate position.
"William, what the hell are you doing?" Angel's eyes flashed with jealousy as she quickly walked over and pulled Margaret away.
"Marjorie, you need something?" William's eyes narrowed coldly.
Angel looked warily at Margaret and then clung to William's arm. "William, I really liked the house you showed me yesterday. I'll cook dinner tonight, and you can try my cooking, okay?"
Seeing this, Margaret's face turned a bit sour. William had just said he wanted to chase her again, but now he was all cozy with Angel. Margaret smirked sarcastically as she turned and left without a second thought.
"Marjorie, I gotta work late tonight, so I won't be able to try your cooking," William said absentmindedly, his eyes glued to Margaret's retreating figure.
Angel, not willing to give up, said with a hint of sadness, "William, even if you have to work late, you still need to eat dinner. How about I cook and wait for you? You can eat before going back to work."
Seeing Angel like this, William nodded helplessly. "Alright."
"William, you better come," Angel said, breaking into a smile and repeatedly reminding him.
Margaret returned to the secretary's office, pushed away the weird feelings in her heart, and sent a message to Anthony: [Check out BPL's CEO, Jack Phillips, for me.]
Anthony: [Got it.]
Margaret: [See if the rumors are true that he made his fortune through illegal businesses.]
If Jack really made his money through shady stuff, it was very likely he still had those shady dealings going on. If they could catch this, the Fisher Group would win without a fight.
But at the same time, it would be super risky.
