Chapter 264 Another Unexpected Encounter
"Didn't you have a meeting or something?" Margaret eyed the guy coming her way, all suspicious-like.
William's eyes were on fire, his voice all low and smooth. "I missed you."
Margaret just kept quiet. She didn't even bother commenting on his fancy get-up; she just hopped into his car, all cool and indifferent.
"Where do you wanna eat?" William asked, starting the car.
"Whatever," Margaret mumbled, eyes glued to her phone.
"Alright, barbecue it is," William decided, not waiting for her to argue.
Seeing she didn't care, he punched in the GPS.
Out of nowhere, Margaret said, "I gotta go on a business trip for a few days."
"A business trip?" William's grip on the wheel tightened, his eyes narrowing.
He couldn't help but think, 'Margaret's been filming with the crew, and now she needs a business trip? With who? Lyle?'
"Yeah," Margaret nodded, her eyes meeting his. "The crew's gotta shoot a hunting scene in the next city. It'll take like two or three days."
"I'm coming with you," William said, no hesitation.
"Nope." Margaret shot him down instantly. She didn't need William tagging along, stirring up gossip with the crew.
William's face darkened, but then he smirked. "Suit yourself."
Margaret was kinda shocked he gave in so easily and felt like he was up to something.
The next day, the whole crew, over a hundred people, rolled up to the hunting ground in the next city.
Wayne had the place all set up, just waiting for the main actors to get in position.
Margaret scoped out the area; it was all green and lush, with tall trees letting in bits of sunlight. The weather was perfect, making it a chill spot to film.
Wayne came over, breaking down the script to Margaret and the others, "In a bit, you guys will be riding horses to hunt. Don't stress; the horses are super tame and old. They won't run; it's just for show."
Once everyone was set, the actors got into position.
Margaret hopped on her horse, all smooth and graceful. The other actors were ready too.
"Director Cooper, everyone's good to go," the assistant director hollered to Wayne.
Wayne said, "Action!"
This scene had Margaret galloping on horseback. But as soon as her horse took off, she knew something was off. The horse was spooked and totally out of control!
Margaret gripped the reins tight, yelling, "My horse is freaking out!"
She'd learned horseback riding abroad, so handling a regular horse was no biggie. But this horse was losing it, ignoring all her commands. It thrashed around, like it was dead set on throwing her off.
Margaret clung to the reins for dear life, trying not to get tossed. If she fell, she could get seriously messed up or worse.
"What the heck? Why's the horse freaking out?"
"Beats me! We checked everything; it should've been fine!"
"Man, Ms. Scott has the worst luck; her props always go haywire!"
The crew stood back, whispering and freaking out, not wanting to get kicked by the wild horse.
Margaret took a deep breath, trying to stay cool, scanning the area for a way to stop the horse.
Suddenly, the horse reared up, making her lean back dangerously. If she fell, she could snap her neck.
Margaret's brow furrowed as she gripped the reins tighter. Then, a deep, husky voice cut through the chaos. "Margaret, hang on!"
That voice was so familiar! It was William! Margaret was stunned for a second.
William, like some hero out of a movie, rushed over to Lyle and grabbed his bow and arrow. He nocked an arrow, aimed, and shot the horse right in the neck's main artery.
The horse instantly lost its strength, collapsing to the ground.
Margaret lost her balance and fell. She shut her eyes tight, bracing for pain, but instead, she landed in a warm, familiar embrace.
"Don't worry; you're safe now." A voice filled her ears with warmth and reassurance.
Margaret slowly opened her eyes and saw William's handsome face. "William, it's really you!" He had saved her again!
Margaret felt a warmth in her heart, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck and burying her head in his chest, feeling a wave of relief.
"Margaret, it's okay now," William held her tight, whispering in her ear, "I'm here; don't be scared."
Those words echoed in Margaret's ears. They were so familiar.
In the past, when she was stuck in an elevator, during a warehouse explosion, a plane crash, and a sea accident, William had always said, "Margaret, don't be afraid; I'm here."
Even though it was just a short sentence, it made Margaret feel incredibly safe.
"William, thank you," Margaret looked up, meeting William's deep gaze, and said seriously.
William smiled as he looked down at her. "You're my girl; of course, I gotta protect you."
Hearing his smooth voice, Margaret's heart started racing.
This whole mess had been sorted out by William in just three minutes.
Lyle stood nearby, watching William hold Margaret tight, his eyes dark with envy. He had wanted to save her too, but he was always a step too late.
Only William had reacted instantly, grabbing the bow and arrow to save her.
Wayne and the assistant director rushed over, especially Wayne, who looked at William's dark face and the shaken Margaret with guilt. "Mr. Fisher, Ms. Scott, we have no idea why the horse freaked out. They were supposed to be old and tame."
"Whatever the reason, it's on you if something goes wrong!" William shot a cold glare at Wayne, his eyes sharp and icy. If he had been a second later, Margaret would have been in serious danger.
