Chapter 352 Alden's Whereabouts
The woman's hand slowly slid off the little girl's face, and she closed her eyes, completely losing her breath.
Maybe it was too much to take in at once. She had just experienced an earthquake, and now her beloved mother had died protecting her.
The little girl didn't make a sound at this moment, just stared blankly at the woman on the stretcher.
Tears were still hanging on her face, but she didn't wail like before, not even speaking.
Margaret lowered her head, feeling a mix of emotions.
She dreaded seeing such scenes the most, and she had just witnessed a parting of life and death.
She didn't know where the little girl would live in the future, whether she would go to an orphanage or be adopted by someone.
But for the little girl, the most precious time was probably when she was with her mother.
Seeing the little girl like this, Margaret held her hand. "Nova, how about I sing you a song?"
Nova finally burst into tears. "I want my mom!"
Margaret reached out and hugged Nova tightly. "Don't cry, your mom will always be watching over you from heaven."
Someone from the rescue team went to handle the woman's body. Juniper watched as the person on the stretcher was covered with a white cloth, then turned to look at the little girl, wiping away her own tears.
Juniper took a few bags of bread and bottles of water, walked up to Nova, handed her the water, and said, "Nova, are you hungry? Have some bread."
The little girl blinked, numbly took the bread, tore open the package, and took a bite.
The two of them comforted her for a long time before the little girl gradually recovered. Her first words were choked with sobs. "Thank you."
Juniper finally breathed a sigh of relief, looking at the little girl with both heartache and affection, patting her on the back of her head. "It's okay, it's what we should do."
After speaking, she seemed to remember something, took out a photo of Alden from her jacket pocket, and showed it to the little girl. "Nova, do you know the boy in this photo?"
"I know him." Nova's eyes lit up the moment she saw the photo, and she nodded affirmatively, her childish voice ringing out. "He's a teacher at our school, Alden is really nice, he teaches us knowledge and often helps people in the village. He even gave me chips once."
Nova spoke with innocence, while Juniper could no longer contain her excitement, her eyes instantly reddened, but she held back her emotions, controlling herself from crying out loud.
After all this effort, she finally knew where Alden was.
Margaret also smiled slightly upon hearing this news. She calculated. "The earthquake happened at nine o'clock yesterday morning, which was during school hours. Alden should be at the school. Let's go quickly!"
These words completely awakened Juniper. She hurriedly grabbed the little girl's arm and said excitedly, "Nova, quickly tell me, where is the school in the village?"
Nova turned around and pointed in a direction, towards the west of the village.
Juniper and Margaret exchanged a glance, quickly called a few bodyguards, and headed towards the school.
The school was outside the village, and the mountain road was rugged and narrow, so they had to walk in a line. Margaret was also carrying Nova, so she walked even more carefully.
After a difficult walk of nearly an hour, they finally reached the school gate.
"We're here!" Juniper's voice was trembling, her eyes filled with anticipation and excitement.
The situation in the village was already uncertain, and the school was no better.
After entering the school gate, Margaret and the others saw many collapsed classrooms.
The rescue team was saving people as they went, but fortunately, the teachers at the school had evacuated the students in time, so most of the people rescued were injured, and the death toll was much lower than in the village.
"Here, this is bread and water, everyone have some, don't rush, don't fight! There's enough for everyone." Margaret hadn't expected the earthquake in the mountainous area to be so severe. They had brought a truckload of food, and the rescue team had also brought a lot of medical equipment and supplies.
But in just a few hours, half of their food supplies were almost gone.
"Margaret, you take care of them first. I'll go ahead and see if there are any people left to be rescued, and maybe find out more about Alden."
Two more students were found and brought out by the rescue team. Margaret and some doctors stayed to take care of the rescued students and teachers, while Juniper and the bodyguards continued searching. She brought two kids to Margaret, said a quick word, and ran off again.
Seeing more and more people being rescued, and knowing that the area they were in could be dangerous if aftershocks hit, Margaret's heart was constantly on edge, and she was starting to feel exhausted.
But at this moment, she couldn't afford to rest.
Margaret quickly organized the rescued students, helping each other to move to the large open space on the playground.
The seriously injured students were carried by bodyguards and the rescue team to the medical personnel for treatment.
After the evacuation was complete, Margaret let out a long sigh of relief.
What followed was a wave of fatigue.
Since entering the village, Margaret had been on the move non-stop.
She had just asked a rescued teacher and contacted the nearby rescue team, who were now on their way.
Half an hour later, the mountain rescue team finally arrived at the school, and the team leader came over to coordinate with Margaret.
Many out-of-town media reporters also rushed over, eager to get first-hand news reports.
Margaret said to the team leader, "Hello, these are the students and teachers we've rescued so far. There are still many people in the village, but we don't know when the aftershocks will come. Please take them to a safe place first."
The rescue team leader nodded, looking at Margaret with admiration. "Of course, thank you for coming all the way to the mountains to help us rescue the victims. Leave the rest to me."
Margaret nodded.
The rescue team arranged for the rescued students to leave the school and go to a safe place, and Nova was also to be taken away.
"Little girl, come with me to a safer place, okay? Don't delay their work, okay?" The rescue team leader bent down, patted Nova's head, his eyes filled with a touch of pity.
