Chapter 149 Catch Him Off Guard

"Bradley's good," Peter rushed up to William, blurting out.

William let out a big sigh, his lips tightening as he asked, "Peter, what the hell happened?"

"When I got back from Fleurancia, everything seemed chill," Peter said, scratching his head. "Then, outta nowhere, news of your plane crash hit. The whole city freaked out. Everyone was losing it, especially Bradley. He got a bunch of search teams together to find you. But the next day, Bradley vanished. Ulysses said he had a heart attack and got rushed to the hospital."

"A heart attack?" William's brows knitted together. He knew Bradley had heart issues, but meds had kept it in check for years.

"Yeah," Peter nodded. "Ulysses said Bradley got shocked by your disappearance and got sick after running around for days. I tried to see Bradley at the hospital, but Ulysses blocked me."

"Ulysses wouldn't let you see my grandpa?" William's lips pressed into a hard line.

"Yep. He said Bradley was super sick and needed rest, no visitors allowed," Peter said, looking pissed.

"Then how do you know Bradley's okay?" Margaret cut in, eyeing Peter. Peter's story made it sound like Ulysses had Bradley locked up, so how could he be sure Bradley was fine?

"Here's the deal," Peter explained. "I had search teams scouring the sea, but the crash site was a mess, so it was tough. Meanwhile, I tried all sorts of ways to get into the hospital to see Bradley, but Ulysses' guys were tight. I didn't wanna push it and risk them hurting Bradley."

Margaret pressed, "And then?"

Peter pulled a note from his coat pocket and handed it to William. "Just when I was about to lose it, a nurse slipped me this note."

William's fingers unfolded the note. It read: [Watch out for Ulysses, find William ASAP.]

William recognized Bradley's handwriting.

"I tried to track down that nurse, but no luck," Peter went on. "On the surface, everything at the Fisher Group seemed normal, but from that day, Ulysses took over as acting CEO, handling everything."

"So, Ulysses has been eyeing the CEO spot for a while." William's eyes darkened with realization. His gut had been right. Ulysses had gone to great lengths, probably tied to the plane crash.

Peter continued, "He even tried to bribe me. And get this, today at the board meeting, Ulysses announced he'd be the acting CEO and would hold a press conference in two days."

William sneered. "Ulysses finally showed his true colors."

"I was scared something happened to you, and with Bradley missing, I had no one to talk to. But now that you and Ms. Scott are back, I can finally breathe," Peter sighed.

These past few days had been a mental grind, playing cat and mouse with Ulysses. Luckily, William was back just in time, giving Peter a much-needed break.

"Actually, this whole mess works in our favor," Margaret said coolly after hearing Peter's rundown. "Ulysses is showing his hand too soon. He thinks something's happened to William and, without even checking if he's dead or alive, he's rushing to grab the Fisher Group. He's out in the open, and we're in the shadows. We can totally catch him off guard."

William shot Margaret a look of admiration. He always knew his fiancée was sharp. She was thinking exactly what he was.

William's voice was icy. "Peter, we need to gather evidence and get Bradley out before Ulysses holds that press conference."

"Got it, Mr. Fisher," Peter said, dead serious.

"Two days is tight, but we can make it work," Margaret said, sitting next to William and rubbing her temples.

Finding proof that Ulysses messed with William's plane wouldn't be easy, but stopping him from taking over the CEO spot was doable.

"Since Ulysses wants to bribe you, let's play along," William said, thinking it through.

"Mr. Fisher, you mean?" Peter asked, leaning in.

"You agree to his demands, make him think he's won, let him get cocky and drop his guard, and we'll swoop in and gather evidence," Margaret added.

Watching William and Margaret sync up perfectly, Peter nodded, feeling the weight lift off his shoulders. These two were a killer team.

William gave Peter detailed instructions, which Peter jotted down.

"Mr. Fisher, I should head back now to keep Ulysses from getting suspicious," Peter said, checking the time. He'd been gone a while.

"Alright," William said calmly.

After Peter left, Margaret pulled out her phone and started scrolling through the news. The internet was buzzing with Fisher Group headlines.

[Fisher Group CEO William crashes into the sea, fate unknown!]

[Fisher Group Chairman Bradley suffers a heart attack, condition critical!]

[Bradley's adopted son Ulysses steps up in Fisher Group's crisis, set to become acting CEO!]

Margaret narrowed her eyes. These stories were probably Ulysses' doing.

Seeing William's face darken, Margaret turned off her phone and sighed, "I can't believe Ulysses would pull this. Bradley's been so good to him, and now he's locking him up and trying to take over the Fisher Group. It's disgusting!"

William's face was stone-cold. "Grandpa must be crushed."

Not only would Bradley be crushed, but William was also deeply hurt. He remembered how Ulysses used to play with him, buy him toys, and take him to school when he was a kid. William had always looked up to Ulysses. He never thought Ulysses had been eyeing the Fisher Group all along, scheming for years for this moment.

"William, what's on your mind?" Seeing the cold look on William's face, Margaret held his hand, worried.

William snapped back, pain flashing in his eyes as he said coldly, "I think my dad's accident years ago might be tied to Ulysses too."
