Chapter 254 Go All the Way

Her lips were like the sweetest candy, and William just couldn't help himself. That familiar taste was totally irresistible.

William's grip tightened around Margaret's slim waist, pulling her close. His kisses came down like a storm, leaving Margaret all flustered and shy. Her heart was racing.

Margaret clung to the towel, too nervous to move, letting him kiss her. The room felt like it was getting hotter by the second.

Then, out of nowhere, William's phone started ringing, killing the vibe.

"Your phone's going off," Margaret said, using the moment to slip away from him.

"Dammit," William muttered, pulling out his phone to see Peter's name on the screen. He took a deep breath before answering, "What's up?"

Peter, sensing William's bad mood, stammered, "Mr. Fisher, we got a lead on Ms. Scott's allergy thing from yesterday."

"Yeah?" William replied with a smirk.

"Yeah, we traced it back to the flower shop, then to the supply base. An employee there admitted she was wearing a platinum ring that fell into the bouquet," Peter explained.

William's brows knitted together. He didn't believe it was just a coincidence.

"They're giving statements at the station," Peter added, "I'll send someone to get more info."

While William was on the call, Margaret quickly grabbed her clothes and headed to the bathroom to change.

Staring at her flushed face in the mirror, she replayed that unexpected kiss in her mind. Her lips still tingled. She splashed her face with cold water, trying to calm down.

After a few deep breaths, she walked back out and caught William finishing his call with Peter.

"So, did Peter find out anything?" she asked.

William's eyes landed on her. She was dressed casually, her hair in a high ponytail, looking fresh and lively.

"Peter said an employee at the flower supply base admitted to wearing a platinum ring that fell into the bouquet, causing the incident," William said, his voice low.

Margaret was surprised that someone actually fessed up. But she doubted it. A ring falling into the bouquet wouldn't cause such a severe reaction. So, it wasn't an accident.

She wasn't sure if this employee's confession was a coincidence, or someone was pulling the strings.

"Do you buy that it was an accident?" Margaret asked, biting her lip.

William's reply was icy, "No way."

"Me neither," Margaret mused, "But we can play along."

"What do you mean?" William asked, intrigued.

Margaret grinned. "Let's roll with it."

If they could trick the mastermind into thinking the whole opening ceremony fiasco was just a fluke, the real culprit might slip up and reveal themselves.

Margaret tugged on William's arm. "Let's hit the cop station."

"You're still getting over that allergy. Chill at home. I'll have Peter bring the deets," William said, trying to be gentle.

"I'm good now." Margaret shook her head, dead set on going.

They had to sell this act hard. By showing up in person, she could really throw the mastermind off.

Seeing her resolve, William had no choice but to drive her there.

"Mr. Fisher, Ms. Scott," the chief greeted them, all respectful.

William's eyes narrowed. "Got any updates on what caused Ms. Scott's allergy last night?"

"Yeah, the folks involved are giving statements in the interrogation room," the chief replied.

"Can I check it out?" Margaret asked.

The chief nodded. "Of course, Ms. Scott. You're the victim here."

He led them to the interrogation room.

Margaret first spotted the two girls who had given her the flowers.

"Ms. Scott, I'm so sorry!" The girl who had tripped and spilled the flowers looked super guilty. "I had no clue you were allergic to platinum, and I didn't know the flowers had any. It's all my fault, I'm really sorry!"

"It's cool, you didn't know. Ignorance isn't a crime," Margaret smiled.

The girl's expression showed that she genuinely had no idea.

"Ms. Scott, you're so kind," the girl said, relieved, "I caused your allergy and it even made the news, but you don't blame me."

"You didn't mean to." Margaret patted her shoulder. "Don't sweat it."

"Thank you, Ms. Scott!" The girl kept thanking her.

The chief told the girls, "You can go after giving your statements."

"Thanks," They said before leaving.

Just then, the flower supply base employee finished her statement and came out with an officer.

She was a woman in her forties. As soon as she saw Margaret, she said, "Ms. Scott, I'm so sorry! It was an accident!"

The woman looked at Margaret, all nervous. "Ms. Scott, it was a total accident. Now my boss wants to fire me. I need this job to support my family. Besides growing flowers, I don't know how to do anything else. If I get fired, what will I do?"

"Don't worry, since it was an accident, I'll talk to your boss and make sure no one gets in trouble," Margaret said with a smile.

"Really?" The woman's eyes lit up.

Margaret nodded. "Absolutely."

"Thank you, Ms. Scott!" The woman was over the moon, thanking her over and over.

"You can go now," the officer told the woman.

After she left, Margaret turned to the chief and said calmly, "Chief, you can issue a statement now, saying the incident at the opening ceremony was just an accident."
