Chapter 406 Seduction Failed
"Let me think about it on my own."
Juniper went quiet for a bit. She didn't say yes or no to Margaret's idea, choosing instead to buy herself some time to think.
Her mind was a mess, and she needed some peace and quiet to sort things out.
Margaret noticed and, after giving a few quick instructions about Juniper's health, left the room.
Before she knew it, it was the 12th, just six days away from the engagement date William had mentioned.
Angel had been in a great mood lately. Ever since she sent the photo of the plan to Jack, he hadn't called her once.
At first, Angel was anxious, constantly worried that William might discover something or that Jack might reveal her true intentions. But as time passed, she let her guard down and focused on the engagement preparations.
By now, Angel had arranged almost everything that could be finalized.
She was over the moon, eagerly awaiting the day she could become William's wife. However, there was one thing that puzzled and even frustrated her: William's attitude.
William was always kind and gentle to Angel, but he never took things further. Every time Angel tried to initiate something, William would find an excuse to avoid it or simply not touch her at all.
Over time, Angel grew suspicious.
She couldn't believe that William was such a gentleman that he could resist her!
That night, Angel deliberately put on a very sexy silk nightgown and walked into William's bedroom, boldly taking a shower in his bathroom.
The sound of water filled the room as Angel absentmindedly lathered herself with body wash, wondering what William's reaction would be when he saw her.
The door opened, and someone walked in.
When William returned to the apartment, he noticed that Angel wasn't in the living room. He heard faint sounds coming from the bedroom.
He walked in and heard the clear sound of running water, along with Angel's singing.
William frowned but called out tentatively, "Angel?"
After a moment, the water stopped abruptly, and the bathroom door opened. Angel stepped out, wrapped in a large white towel, her hair still dripping wet as she dried it with another towel.
"William, you're back."
Angel smiled shyly when she saw William.
William glanced at her briefly before quickly looking away. But only for a moment, as his gaze soon returned to Angel's face.
"Angel, what are you doing here?"
Angel smiled and slowly walked towards him, her face still flushed from the steam. "I was waiting for you."
"Alright, go put on some clothes. You don't want to catch a cold."
To her surprise, William wasn't moved at all. He reached for a jacket on the bed to cover her, but Angel grabbed his wrist.
"William, I bought a new perfume today. I wanted you to smell it, so I took a shower here."
Angel looked at him with a pout, standing on tiptoe to whisper in his ear, "You won't be mad at me, will you?"
"Of course not."
William held Angel's hand, which was clutching his shirt. Just as Angel's heart leaped with joy, thinking William was finally going to make a move, he gently moved her hand away.
"I'm just worried you'll catch a cold. And you've never been in my bedroom before, so I was a bit surprised. But I'm not mad."
"William." Angel looked at him, her brows furrowing in apparent distress. She lowered her gaze but still leaned towards him.
Angel's slender arms wrapped around William's neck like a snake, her perfume wafting into his nose. She had bought it specifically for this moment.
But William merely averted his gaze slightly, ignoring her seductive body and the hint of cleavage. He tried to remove her hands.
"William, you've rejected me so many times. But we're getting engaged soon. I'm willing."
The implication was clear, but William, knowing her true intentions and having his own plans with Margaret, wouldn't let her succeed.
"Alright, Angel."
William took a step back, raising his hands slightly to avoid touching her.
Finally, he placed his hands on her shoulders, gently but firmly removing her hands from his body, putting some distance between them.
Angel looked at him, confused. William smiled softly, brushing a hand across her cheek and tenderly fixing her hair.
"Angel, I understand what you mean. But you're not well right now. And like you said, we're getting engaged soon. Once we're married, you'll have everything you want."
William's reasoning was sound, but Angel didn't believe it. She was desperate to become William's legitimate wife. Only by being intimate with him would her dream come true.
"It's late now. You should go get some rest."
To Angel, this was a dismissal. Her smile faded, and the light in her eyes dimmed. Disappointed, she picked up her clothes and left.
At the hospital.
Lyle's injuries had mostly healed. During Margaret's care, the doctor had checked on him several times and finally said, "Mr. Pennington is doing well now. He can resume some normal activities but should still be mindful of the intensity."
Lyle smiled upon hearing the news.
Margaret was also relieved, nodding with a smile. "Thank you, doctor. I'll make sure he takes it easy."
After that, Margaret followed the doctor out to handle the discharge paperwork. News of Lyle's discharge had already reached the media.
Many reporters were waiting outside the hospital, hoping to get the first scoop. As soon as Margaret and Lyle appeared, the media swarmed them, cameras flashing, capturing close-up shots of the two.
