Chapter 490 Pregnancy Reactions
"Alright, I'll drink it in a bit," Juniper said, taking the chicken soup and nodding.
The smell of the chicken soup hit her again, and Juniper felt a wave of nausea. Her face turned pale, and her hand shook, spilling the soup onto the floor.
Seeing the soup splattered everywhere, Dione's face showed a pained expression.
"Seriously, if you don't want to drink it, fine, but why waste it?" Dione glared at Juniper. "Samuel asked me to take good care of you, and this is how you repay me?"
Juniper's face turned even paler. She quickly said, "Mrs. Hall, I didn't mean to. My stomach has been feeling awful these past few days. I'll clean up the soup from the carpet in a bit."
Samuel had just returned from work and heard the commotion. His first thought was that Juniper and Dione were at it again.
He put his things down and rushed upstairs. "Juniper, Mom, what's going on?"
As soon as he reached the top of the stairs, he saw the mess in the room—chicken soup spilled on the carpet, broken ceramic pieces scattered on the floor.
Juniper looked pale, and Dione's face was full of displeasure.
Dione frowned and spoke first, "I followed your advice and tried to take care of your future wife, offering her some chicken soup for nourishment. But she took one whiff and threw up, spilling the soup everywhere."
"Mom, Juniper's morning sickness is really bad right now. Please try to understand," Samuel said, defending Juniper. "It's just spilled soup."
Seeing Samuel defend Juniper, Dione was not pleased. She frowned and said, "I had the kitchen make that soup especially for her, and it took five or six hours."
Juniper covered her mouth, trying to hold back the urge to vomit.
"I've been pregnant before, and I wasn't this delicate. I think she's just being too precious. But no matter how precious she is, she needs to think about the baby. Without proper nutrition, the baby might not develop properly," Dione said worriedly.
Samuel looked at Dione helplessly and tried to reassure her. "Mom, that's not going to happen. We have modern prenatal care to check for any issues."
"We go for regular check-ups. The baby will be fine," Samuel said, patting Dione's shoulder. "Juniper appreciates your effort with the chicken soup."
Samuel signaled Juniper to say something.
Juniper quickly understood. "Mrs. Hall, I'll drink the chicken soup once my morning sickness passes."
Samuel tried to mediate between the two, and Dione didn't want to make things difficult for Samuel. She gave Juniper a stern look. "You two can cook for yourselves. See what Juniper wants to eat."
After Dione left, Samuel put his arm around Juniper's shoulder and helped her sit down. "Juniper, are you okay? My mom has a strong personality. Don't take it to heart."
Having lived under the same roof for a while, Juniper knew Dione's character and understood that Samuel genuinely cared for her. For Samuel and the baby, Juniper was willing to endure this.
"I'm fine," Juniper said with a small smile. "It's just that my stomach has been off these past few days. The smell of the chicken soup made me spill it."
Samuel looked at Juniper with concern. He worried that if this continued, Juniper's health might suffer.
"You need to eat something. It's not just about the baby; your body needs nourishment too," Samuel said gently, holding Juniper. "I'll ask the chef to make some of your favorite dishes."
He told Juniper to rest in the room while he went to the kitchen to oversee the cooking.
He had the chef prepare several dishes that Juniper loved, hoping she would eat a little and regain some energy.
After a short rest, Samuel came upstairs with a large tray. On it were fish, stir-fried vegetables, and shrimp—Juniper's favorites.
"Juniper, the chef just made these dishes. Try them," Samuel said, handing her a spoon and sitting beside her, watching her eat.
Seeing the delicious food, Juniper's eyes lit up. She picked up the knife and fork, ready to dig in, but her stomach churned again. "Take it away, I feel like throwing up."
Even her favorite dishes were now unappetizing.
Samuel looked at her with concern and held her close. "Juniper, pregnancy is tough."
It was his first time experiencing Juniper's pregnancy, and he hadn't expected the symptoms to be so severe.
"Why don't you rest for a bit? Lie down for a while," Samuel said, pouring her a glass of water and placing it on the bedside table.
Just as the couple was about to rest, the housekeeper came upstairs and knocked on the door.
"Mr. Hall, we have guests," the housekeeper said.
Samuel frowned. Guests? Who could it be that required his attention?
Looking at Juniper in the room, Samuel said, "Juniper, we have guests. I'll go downstairs to check. You rest here."
The guests must be important if Samuel needed to greet them personally. Juniper struggled to get up and said, "No, I'll go with you. I don't want to upset your mom again."
For Dione's sake, Juniper forced herself to endure the discomfort and supported Samuel as they went downstairs.
In the living room, Dione was chatting warmly with a young woman, holding her hand and smiling.
"Mom," Samuel and Juniper said as they came downstairs.
Seeing Samuel, Dione quickly pulled him over. "Look who's here!"
Dione pointed to the young, beautiful woman. Samuel was momentarily stunned before recognizing her. "Rainey Ward?"
Rainey was Samuel's childhood neighbor. They grew up together, but Rainey had gone abroad for her studies, and they lost touch.
"Rainey just returned from studying abroad and came to visit me. Look at the gifts she brought," Dione said with a smile. "Rainey is such a thoughtful child."
She held Rainey's hand tightly, praising her endlessly.
Juniper watched the three of them chat happily, feeling like an outsider, unable to join their conversation.
Samuel noticed Juniper's discomfort and pulled her hand to introduce her. "Rainey, this is my fiancée. She's recently pregnant."
Samuel's eyes were full of joy when he mentioned Juniper.
Seeing this, Rainey felt a pang of jealousy. She had liked Samuel since childhood. She couldn't believe that after studying abroad, Samuel now had a fiancée and was about to become a father!
