Chapter 133 Almost Lovers
William kept his mouth shut. He stared down, fiddling with the umbrella in his hand, face blank.
His silence said it all. Margaret's heart started to sink, a heavy bitterness spreading through her.
The small space was dead quiet, and the vibe was kinda awkward.
The Ferris wheel began to slowly descend.
Just as they were about to reach the lowest point, William suddenly looked up. His eyes were as deep as the night, and he said seriously to Margaret, "Marjorie is history. Right now, the woman I want to spend my life with is you."
His voice, like the sweetest tune, reached Margaret's ears.
Margaret's heart couldn't help but race. She pursed her lips and casually asked, "For real?"
"Yeah." William nodded slightly, his tone carrying a hint of hope. "So can you give me an answer early?"
"Nope." Margaret stubbornly smiled at the man beside her. "I said two months, so it's two months."
William's answer just now was kinda unexpected for Margaret. Even though it was what she wanted to hear, was he for real? Could he really let go of Marjorie?
That had been William's hang-up for so many years. Margaret was a bit doubtful, but there was a small joy in her heart. Maybe, if they gave each other more time and she got to know him better, she could see more clearly who he truly loved, whether it was Marjorie or not.
William chuckled helplessly. "Alright."
After getting off the Ferris wheel, the two walked side by side on the road in the amusement park.
The night was super quiet. The streetlights cast long shadows of the two, a picture of tranquility.
What was their relationship now? Margaret tilted her head, thinking carefully, 'Maybe we are just one step away from being lovers.'
"It's late, let's head back." After walking all day, Margaret felt a bit tired.
They returned to the hotel, and just as they walked into the lobby, a woman in a fuchsia dress suddenly walked straight towards William. "William, are you okay?"
Margaret looked up and slightly frowned her beautiful eyebrows. 'Lucy? When did she get here?'
William glanced at Lucy expressionlessly and said indifferently, "Why are you here?"
"William, you don't know how worried I've been about you these past few days." Lucy's eyes were fervently fixed on William. "Seeing that you're okay, I'm relieved."
Seeing the undisguised admiration in Lucy's eyes for William, Margaret took a step forward, holding William's arm, and raised a mocking smile, "What does it matter to you whether my fiancé is okay or not?"
"I'm just concerned about William." Lucy glared at Margaret, full of unwillingness, cursing in her head. 'Why could this country bumpkin Margaret be so close to William!'
"William, let's go." Margaret didn't want to pay any more attention to Lucy and directly pulled William into the elevator.
Lucy followed William and Margaret all the way, watching them enter two separate rooms. Lucy's eyes flickered. 'It seems William doesn't like Margaret that much, otherwise, why would they stay in two rooms? It must be Margaret clinging to William. This Margaret is just a bit prettier, always shamelessly seducing men. Compared to me, she is far inferior!'
Margaret got back to her room and took a long, hot shower. The steam filled the bathroom, and Margaret's mind drifted back to William's words. 'Right now, the woman I want to spend my life with is you.'
Margaret smiled a bit, then slipped into her pajamas. Her eyes landed on William's suit lying nearby.
She figured she should return the suit to William.
Just as she opened her hotel room door, she heard Lucy's flirty and shy voice from the corridor. "William, I came here specifically to discuss the Clark Group and the Fisher Group's cooperation plan."
Lucy had been bugging William to let her work at the Fisher Group, but he hadn't given her the time of day. Lucy couldn't take it anymore. She secretly took Michael Clark's cooperation plan and used it as an excuse to come to Fleurancia to find William.
Through the crack in the door, Margaret saw Lucy in a fuchsia spaghetti strap low-cut short dress, her full breasts barely covered, her hair loose over her shoulders, and her face perfectly made up. She had clearly dressed to impress.
"Really?" William smiled slightly.
"Of course, I even brought the proposal. I wonder if you have time tonight, we could discuss it together." Lucy said, giving William a flirty glance.
William leaned against the door frame, his sharp eyes slightly narrowed, but he caught sight of Margaret standing at the door of the next room, looking annoyed.
He couldn't help but smile slightly.
Lucy misunderstood. She thought William was smiling at her. Her heart raced, convinced that her meticulously curated appearance had worked its magic. As she focused on the god-like, handsome, and elegant figure before her, she felt a surge of confidence.
Lucy took a step forward, trying to lean on William. "William, why don't we go to your room and have a good chat?"
Before she could finish, William moved aside, and Lucy lost her balance and fell to the ground.
Margaret couldn't help but laugh. She took William's clothes, walked over, and looked down at the embarrassed Lucy. "Ms. Clark, why do you like lying on the ground?"
"Margaret, you!" Lucy looked up and saw Margaret's mocking face, her expression changing. She quickly got up from the ground, glaring angrily at Margaret.
"William, your clothes were left in my room just now," Margaret said affectionately to William, her tone carrying a bit of shyness and charm, making people imagine all sorts of things.
Lucy was fuming with jealousy. 'William's clothes are left in Margaret's room, what have they done? Why wouldn't William even look at me? What do I lack compared to Margaret!'
William, in front of her, gently held Margaret's hand, and they walked directly into William's room.
"William, the proposal..." Lucy spoke, unwilling to give up just like that, but before she could finish, the door closed.
Her hands clenched tightly at her sides, and a sinister look flashed in Lucy's eyes. 'Margaret, you bitch! I will never let you go!'
