Chapter 399 It Turns Out to Be a Trap
But she was just here to check on Mr. Pennington, so it should be fine to push the door open and go in.
Seraphina felt a bit down, but she knew her boundaries. She glanced at the fruit basket in her hand, took a deep breath, and decided to push the hospital room door open.
Lyle looked up, and Margaret instinctively turned her head, pulling her hand back from the bed.
Seeing it was Seraphina, Margaret smiled and nodded, saying, "Seraphina, you're here."
Lyle was momentarily stunned when he saw Seraphina. He noticed Margaret's movement and felt a brief pang of disappointment, but still managed a polite smile for Seraphina.
Seraphina suddenly felt a bit awkward, but she quickly adjusted her mindset, gave a reserved smile, and said, "Margaret, I'm here to check on Mr. Pennington. How is he doing? Is he feeling better?"
Margaret was looking for a way to leave, and Seraphina's arrival was a godsend.
She stood up and said, "He's resting now. Since you're here, why don't you keep Lyle company? I just remembered I have some work to handle at the office."
With that, Margaret picked up her handbag from the side and gestured for Lyle to take care of himself.
Lyle understood perfectly but still wanted to try to keep Margaret from leaving. "You..."
He only managed to say one word before swallowing the rest of his sentence.
Never mind, there will be other opportunities.
At Juniper's home.
"Juniper, come here quick!" Samuel had been scrolling through his phone when he suddenly frowned and called out to Juniper.
Because of the recent rescue incident, Juniper's guard against Samuel had lessened. She walked over and sat beside him, asking curiously, "What's up? Why are you so worked up?"
Samuel held his phone up to her. On the screen was the news of William announcing his engagement to Angel, along with photos of Angel trying on wedding dresses.
Juniper's eyes widened in shock. "What? William is marrying Angel?"
How could this be? Wasn't William still sweet with Margaret just a while ago? How did he suddenly decide to marry someone else?
She and Samuel exchanged a look, both understanding the urgency. Originally, they had planned to stay in Phoenix City for a few more days at Ramon and Madeline's request.
But now, it seemed they had to return immediately to find Margaret and get to the bottom of this.
They couldn't just break up without any explanation.
The two quickly went to their rooms to pack. Less than two hours later, they were at the front door, ready to leave. Juniper hurriedly told Ramon and Madeline, "Mom, Dad, there's an urgent matter with Margaret. Samuel and I need to go back right away. I'll come back to visit you when I can."
On the plane, Juniper was restless. Samuel noticed her anxiety and tried to comfort her, "Juniper, don't worry. Maybe there's more to this than we know."
"But William is about to marry someone else." Juniper's emotions were fraught, and she was already thinking about how to console Margaret.
"Let's wait until we see Margaret."
Three hours later, Juniper and Samuel rushed out of the airport. In the taxi, Juniper called Margaret, "Margaret, Samuel, and I are back. Where are you? We need to talk."
Margaret gave them her address, and they hurried over.
The knocking on the door was urgent.
"Coming, coming." Margaret quickly went to open the door and saw Juniper and Samuel standing outside, out of breath.
Seeing them, Margaret couldn't help but laugh and instinctively stepped aside, asking, "What's going on with you two? Why are you in such a rush? Come in and have some water."
Juniper gave her a helpless look and walked in quickly. Margaret brought two glasses of juice and placed them in front of them. As soon as she set them down, Juniper grabbed her hand and pulled her to sit beside her.
"Stop fussing. I need to ask you something."
Margaret saw her friend being so serious and couldn't help but smile, asking, "What's up? Why so serious? Just tell me."
Juniper pulled up the news page she had seen earlier and held it up to Margaret, asking urgently, "What's going on with you and William? Weren't you two doing great? Why is he suddenly engaged to Angel?"
"Oh, that's what this is about." Margaret felt relieved after seeing the news. She had thought it was something more serious. But then she realized Juniper didn't know about her plan, which made sense.
She looked at Juniper with a mysterious smile and said, "Don't worry. William and I planned this from the start. You don't need to be anxious. There's a good show coming soon."
"Planned this?" Juniper was even more confused. What were they planning that led to such a big news story?
"Let me explain..."
After Margaret explained everything, Juniper finally relaxed and smiled, "You should have told me about this earlier. I thought William had really fallen for someone else."
Margaret shook her head with a smile, "At first, we didn't plan to tell anyone. The fewer people who knew, the more convincing it would be. But now that the show is about to start, there's no harm in telling you. Also..."
Margaret looked meaningfully between Juniper and Samuel, smiling, "How are things between you two now?"
Mentioning this made both of them a bit awkward. Samuel smiled but didn't say anything.
He knew Juniper still couldn't accept him, but these things couldn't be rushed. They needed time.
Juniper gave Margaret a reproachful look and explained, "Don't get any ideas. Samuel and I are just good friends. As for what you're thinking, I'm not considering that right now. Also—"
Juniper was about to say something, but stopped.
Margaret pursed her lips, seemingly anticipating what Juniper was about to say. Samuel, sensing the moment, said, "We came straight here from the airport. I'm a bit hungry. Margaret, do you have anything to eat? Mind if I look around?"
"Check the fridge. There should be some of my homemade cakes."
After Samuel walked away, Juniper grabbed Margaret's hand and asked worriedly, "How's Alden? Is his leg better?"
"Much better." Margaret nodded, "He's been very cooperative with the treatment and is recovering well. He's under observation now, but there shouldn't be any major issues."
