Chapter 161 William and Marjorie Embrace

Margaret squinted in the direction Juniper was pointing. Way off in the distance, a flashy Rolls-Royce was parked on the country road, sticking out like a sore thumb.

"That's gotta be William's ride, but what's he doing out here?" Margaret muttered, her anxiety spiking. She quickly told the driver, "Hey, can you take us over there? Thanks!"

"No problem!" The cabbie zipped the car over next to William's and pulled to a stop.

Before the car even fully halted, Margaret was already out the door, practically jumping out. William's car was chilling by a small road at the base of the mountain. Margaret peeked inside, but it was empty.

"If his car's here, he can't be far, right?" Margaret tried calling William again, but his phone was still off.

Juniper paid the driver and rushed over, worry etched on her face. "Margaret, any luck?"

Margaret shook her head. "Nope, car's empty."

The car was there, but William was MIA. Worry, tension, and unease twisted in Margaret's gut.

"Let's scout around; he might be close by," Juniper suggested, scanning the area. "Don't stress too much, William's probably fine."

Margaret took a deep breath, looked at Juniper, and said, "You check left, I'll go right."

"Got it." Juniper nodded and headed left.

Margaret took a few steps to the right and spotted a farmhouse with its door slightly open. She walked up and knocked. No answer.

Margaret hesitated but then pushed the door open and stepped inside. She needed to see if anyone had seen William.

Inside, William had driven Angel back to her place. The house was pretty rundown, with bare walls and a shabby vibe. William frowned. "Marjorie, you live here?"

"Yeah, this is my biological parents' place. I usually rent in the city 'cause it's too far to get to the bar at night. I come back when I can." Angel bit her lip, looking down. "Once my grandma's better, I'll move them to the city."

William nodded, thinking. "Where's your family now?"

"My parents are at the hospital with my grandma," Angel said softly. "They'll be back later."

"Alright, you should rest. I gotta go," William said, thinking about Margaret and the engagement party that night. He stood up to leave.

"William, it hurts here," Angel suddenly said, pointing to her chest as William was about to leave. Before he could react, she collapsed into his arms.

"Marjorie, what's wrong?" William quickly caught her.

Angel snuggled into William's arms, standing on tiptoe, her lips close to his ear. "William, remember when you said you'd marry me?"

William froze. Yeah, he had said that to Marjorie when they were kids.

When Margaret pushed the door open, this was the scene she walked into. A disheveled young girl clinging to William, their actions looking way too cozy. And the girl was saying, "You said you'd marry me?"

Margaret stared in disbelief, her mind going blank. She'd been freaking out about William, searching high and low for him. And what was he up to? He'd vanished for ages, only to be all cozy with another chick!

Margaret's heart pounded so hard it felt like it might burst. She took a deep breath, trying to keep it together, and asked in a shaky voice, "William, what the hell are you doing?"

William was about to push Marjorie away when he heard that all-too-familiar voice. He froze and looked towards the door. There stood Margaret, dressed to kill, with a face like thunder.

"Margaret?" William's eyebrow shot up in surprise. Hadn't he told her he'd come pick her up? What was she doing here? And how did she even find this place?

Seeing Margaret's stormy expression, William let go of Angel. "Margaret, why are you here?"

But Angel clung to him like a lifeline, her whole body weak and trembling. "William, who is she? It hurts so much, don't leave."

Feeling Angel shaking like a leaf, William frowned and looked down at her. "Marjorie, you okay?"

The name hit Margaret like a ton of bricks. She was floored. 'The girl William's holding is Marjorie! How freaking ironic!'

Today was supposed to be their engagement day, and William was all wrapped up with another woman! And that woman was the one he'd been hung up on for years, Marjorie!

Right then, Margaret's heart felt like it was being ripped apart.

"William, is she Marjorie?" Margaret struggled to keep her voice steady.

"Margaret, you should go back. I'll explain everything later," William said, frowning.

He knew Margaret must've gotten the wrong idea, but he trusted her feelings for him and believed she'd understand. Once he explained everything, it would be fine.

Marjorie seemed to be in a lot of pain, maybe hurt from when his car hit her earlier. Plus, he'd just found Marjorie today. She'd once saved his life, risking everything for him. He couldn't just ditch her.

So, William figured the best move was to send Margaret back first. Once he sorted out Marjorie, he'd head to the engagement party, explain everything to Margaret, and they'd go ahead with the ceremony.

But to Margaret, William's actions said it all. He was still holding Marjorie right in front of her! In William's heart, the one he cared about, valued, and loved the most was always Marjorie! It was true before, it was true now, and it would be true forever!

And Margaret was just a backup. Now that his beloved Marjorie was back, why would he even look at Margaret?

Margaret wanted to march up and slap William hard, to scream at him for treating her like this. But she held back. Since he'd found Marjorie and didn't love her anymore, why should she hang on?

Margaret wasn't some weak woman who'd fall apart after getting dumped!
