Chapter 131 Testing Whether the Two Are Compatible

"The 72 Strategies for Picking Up Girls? What kinda weird book is this?" William shot Peter a cold glance, smirked a bit, and scoffed, "Lame!"

But then, his well-defined hand snatched the book from Peter.

Trailing behind William, Peter said respectfully, "Mr. Fisher, I'm heading back to Ravenford tomorrow."

"Cool," William nodded, barely interested. "Hit me up if you need anything."

William had faith in Peter's work. With Peter heading back to handle the company for a few days, William just needed to give remote orders.

After Peter left, William plopped down on the sofa, leaning back against the cushion, legs casually crossed, holding the book Peter had handed him, and started reading it seriously.

That night, Margaret actually got a good night's sleep for once. When she woke up the next day, it was already noon.

Margaret had been on a business trip for days, busy with the "Ice and Fire" jewelry, and hadn't had time to catch up with Juniper. Today, she finally had some free time and planned to hit the shops with Juniper.

Just as she opened her door, she saw William's tall, lean figure standing there.

"William, what are you doing here?" Margaret was a bit surprised.

William gave a faint smile. "Waiting for you."

"Waiting for me?" Margaret was puzzled. "Why?"

"We're going out today." William's tone was kinda bossy, leaving no room for argument.

Margaret furrowed her brows. "Aren't you supposed to be resting because of your injury?"

During the explosion that day, William had protected her without hesitation. Even though his severe injury and coma were faked, his shoulder was still hurt by the falling ceiling.

William smirked. "Just a scratch."

With that, William grabbed Margaret's hand, not giving her a chance to refuse. "Let's go!"

Sitting in the car, Margaret was a bit speechless and could only text Juniper.

Margaret: [Something came up, gotta cancel our plans.]

Soon, Juniper replied curiously: [What's up? Are you with William?]

Margaret replied: [Sort of.]

Juniper: [You really do care more about William!]

Margaret pursed her lips, just about to reply to Juniper when she heard William say in her ear, "We're here."

Margaret looked out the car window and saw Aurora Spire not far away. Aurora Spire was a scenic spot in the nation of Fleurancia, attracting millions of tourists every year.

"Let's get out." William opened the car door for Margaret, speaking very gentlemanly.

The two of them strolled along the riverbank.

The riverside was lined with lush trees, and the scenery was picturesque. Margaret had been here before, but she had never found the scenery as beautiful as she did today.

"Sir, buy a rose for your girlfriend," At that moment, a girl carrying a large basket of red roses said to William.

The little girl called Margaret William's girlfriend, which made William pretty happy.

"I'll take them all." William raised an eyebrow, took a wad of cash from his wallet, and handed it to the girl. "Keep the change."

The girl beamed and looked at Margaret with a bit of envy. "Ma'am, your boyfriend is so good to you. You're so lucky!"

Margaret was a bit speechless. "He's not my boyfriend."

William frowned slightly and said calmly, "Hmm, not a boyfriend, a fiancé."

Margaret stayed quiet.

"Having such a doting fiancé, I'm so jealous!" The girl said before leaving happily with the money.

William held the roses, his deep eyes locked on Margaret. "These are for you."

Margaret shook her head. "I don't want them."

"You don't like them?" William asked, a bit sullen. "Aren't girls supposed to like roses?"

That's what 'The 72 Strategies for Picking Up Girls' said.

Step one: give her flowers.

Margaret furrowed her brows. "It's not appropriate for you to give me roses."

She hadn't made up her mind yet and didn't want to accept William's roses before she did.

William nodded slightly, his thin lips close to Margaret's ear, his deep voice as smooth and alluring as a cello. "Margaret, didn't I tell you I'm pursuing you?"

Margaret's heart involuntarily sped up. She took a deep breath and met William's intense gaze. "William, how about we play a game?"

William was taken aback and instinctively asked, "What game?"

"To test if we're really compatible," Margaret bit her lip and said.

William was intrigued and responded calmly, "What do you have in mind?"

"You walk that way, and I'll walk in the opposite direction. If we can still meet, it means we're meant to be together," Margaret explained.

William thought for a moment and nodded. "Okay."

"You go first." Afraid that William might cheat, Margaret pointed ahead.

William gave Margaret a deep look. "I'll prove that we're meant to be."

Watching William's tall figure gradually disappear from her sight, Margaret felt a bit unsettled. She didn't know what her feelings for William were. She only knew that before William, she had never felt this way about anyone.

But Margaret also knew that there was another girl, Marjorie, in William's heart. She was afraid that William only saw her as a substitute for Marjorie, that his pursuit of her was only because of Marjorie.

Taking a few deep breaths, Margaret pushed away these inexplicable emotions and wandered aimlessly through the streets. By sunset, Margaret still hadn't encountered William.

So, were they really not meant to be?

A self-deprecating smile tugged at her lips, tinged with bitterness. Just as she was about to hail a cab back to the hotel, a nearby amusement park caught her attention.

Why did this amusement park seem so familiar? It felt like she had been here before.

Vague fragments flashed through Margaret's mind, as if her parents had brought her here.

Margaret rubbed her temples, trying hard to recall something, but nothing came to mind.

From the time she could remember, she had lived with Xavier. Her childhood memories were very blurry. It felt like something very important had been erased.

What was it?

Margaret didn't know.
