Chapter 396 Are They Getting Married?
William stood still, not saying a word, but when he heard Angel's comment, he leaned back slightly.
Angel lowered her eyes and slowly walked out. As she passed by William, her heart raced, and she didn't dare to look him in the eye.
Suddenly, Angel's face turned pale. Just as she reached the door, she closed her eyes and collapsed.
"Angel, Angel!"
William quickly reached out and caught her. Seeing Angel's pale face in his arms, he called her name several times but got no response. He then carried her out of the study.
When Angel woke up again, she was lying in the large bed in the bedroom, covered with a blanket. William was walking towards her, holding a cup of hot water.
Seeing her awake, the tension in William's eyes finally eased, and he let out a sigh of relief.
"Angel." William walked to the bedside, placed the cup on the nightstand, and helped Angel sit up, placing a pillow behind her back.
"You're awake. How are you feeling now? Is there any discomfort?" William's voice was gentle. "I just called a doctor to check on you. He said it's a residual effect from before. Your body hasn't fully recovered yet, so you can't overexert yourself."
Angel looked at William with a pitiful expression, instinctively reaching out to grab his hand, her eyes glistening with tears.
"William."
Seeing this, William quickly grabbed a tissue from the nightstand to wipe her tears. "What's wrong? Why are you crying?"
"I... I..." Angel's voice was choked with sobs. "I know my illness is severe. When I was getting better before, I asked the doctor, and he said that even if my condition improves, there's still a chance of relapse. After all, it's a terminal illness. I know I don't have much time left."
William's eyes showed a pained expression. He moved closer to Angel and held her in his arms. "Don't say that. I will find someone to cure you."
Angel leaned against William's chest, gently shaking her head, and said softly, "Don't worry about it, William. I know my body. I have only one wish. Do you remember when we were kids in the cabin, you said you would marry me?"
"I remember."
Angel felt a surge of joy in her heart. She composed herself and continued, "I just want to marry you while I'm still alive, to be your wife, and to have a beautiful time with you. That's all I ask for."
William frowned. Just when Angel thought he wouldn't agree, she heard his voice above her.
"Okay, I promise you."
Angel smiled and wrapped her arms around William's waist. "William, you're so good."
As long as she became William's wife, Jack wouldn't be able to do anything to her.
Would she still need to rely on others then? What a joke!
True to his decisive nature, William announced the next day that he was going to get engaged to Angel.
The media went wild with the news, as the Fisher family was a top player in the business world, and William's marriage was highly anticipated.
"True Love Descends! Fisher Group CEO to Marry Childhood Sweetheart—What's Next for Her?"
The news articles mentioned William and Angel, often including Margaret. When Angel saw the reports, she was overjoyed.
But not everyone felt the same.
For instance, Daisy and Abigail.
Abigail was filled with jealousy when she saw the news. She put down her phone and said to Daisy, "Aunt Daisy, this Angel is clearly after William's money! And look at her, she's not even from a suitable family. Who knows what kind of schemes she has? William can't marry her!"
Daisy was fuming. She couldn't believe that after dealing with Margaret, now there was Angel, someone she didn't even know, trying to marry into the Fisher family.
"A bar singer? Seriously? How could she possibly marry into our family? It's absurd!"
Abigail seized the opportunity to stir things up. "Aunt Daisy, I heard Angel has already moved into Water Moon Estate. That's William's own house. Letting her live there is like acknowledging her as the lady of the house."
Daisy pursed her lips in displeasure and gave Abigail a stern look.
"Let's go. You come with me to see her."
When they arrived at Water Moon Estate, Abigail hurried to the apartment door and repeatedly rang the doorbell.
"Coming." Angel's voice came from inside. She opened the door and saw Daisy and Abigail standing outside, hesitating for a moment.
"Who are you?"
Abigail scoffed and followed Daisy inside.
Daisy looked Angel up and down and said, "I thought my son was marrying someone beautiful, but it turns out to be someone like you."
Abigail stood beside Daisy, arrogantly adding, "Maybe William is just infatuated for a moment. Aunt Daisy, look at her. She doesn't match William at all."
Angel quickly understood that this was William's mother and cousin.
Though she felt indignant, she had to swallow her pride and forced a smile. "So you're William's mother and cousin. I didn't know. Please, have a seat. I'll go wash some fruit."
Abigail sneered, "Don't try to get close to us. Who's your cousin? Just because you hooked up with William doesn't mean you can become the lady of the Fisher family. Look at you, dreaming."
"I'm not here to make friends with you." Daisy looked at Angel with disdain. "To be a daughter-in-law of the Fisher family, you must be a lady of high standing. You? I know you used to sing in a bar. Women from places like that can't be clean. Tell me, what's your real motive for getting close to William?"
Angel's heart skipped a beat but quickly steadied.
If they thought a few words could drive her away, they were too naive.
"I don't have any motives." Angel's voice was full of grievance. "Mrs. Fisher, William and I truly want to be together. He promised to marry me. How can you say that about me?"
Abigail's frown deepened. She had liked William for so long, but he never looked at her. Now, this nobody from nowhere dared to speak like this!
Unable to contain her anger, Abigail rushed over and pushed Angel. "Stop pretending to be pitiful. Our family is not for someone like you!"
Angel fell to the ground, her hand scraping against the floor, tears welling up in her eyes as she looked at Abigail.
At that moment, William returned.
Seeing Angel on the ground, his expression instantly changed. He quickly helped her up and glared at Abigail and Daisy.
"Who let you in?"
Abigail was startled by William's sudden appearance and tried to explain, hoping to smooth things over.
"William, Aunt Daisy and I saw the news and wanted to come and check on you."
"My business is none of your concern!" William was clearly displeased, his tone harsh. He then gently checked on Angel.
Daisy's face also changed. She and Abigail felt like outsiders.
"Abigail, it seems William is quite happy. We should leave!"
