Chapter 91 A Brilliant Comeback (Part 4)
Margaret's heart did a little flip when she heard the word "fiancée."
William, right there in front of all those reporters and the audience across the country, just called her his fiancée. She felt a tiny pang of emotion; could she still ditch the contract in two months?
Shoving those weird feelings aside, Margaret asked quietly, "Why are you here?"
William turned and whispered in her ear, just loud enough for her to hear, "I told you, I won't let anyone mess with you."
To everyone else, it looked super intimate.
Margaret's face turned a bit red, and she looked away.
Abigail watched the whole scene, feeling all sorts of things. She had just told the media that Margaret had nothing to do with the Fisher family, and now William was saying Margaret was his fiancée!
And he was defending her so fiercely, being all close and stuff!
Jealousy flashed in Abigail's eyes.
The reporter, trying to be nice, said, "Margaret just showed proof against Ella. We all know she's innocent."
"No way! Margaret's evidence is fake! She pushed me into the water!" Ella, looking at the guy she loved, made a desperate plea.
William shot a cold look at Ella. His icy stare made Ella shiver.
No, she couldn't lose! Ella still had a bit of hope. As long as she didn't admit it, what could Margaret do?
"Fake?" William's lips twisted into a cold smile. "Then check this out."
Peter got the hint and opened a laptop to play a video.
The video was shot by some shutterbug on the hill near Lover's Lake. The person was just trying to capture the scenery but ended up recording the whole thing between Ella and Margaret.
The video started with Margaret alone, looking for a good spot to shoot. She stopped on the lawn by the lake, looking happy with the spot.
As she looked out, a figure showed up behind her—it was Ella.
Ella sneaked up behind Margaret, slowly getting closer, and then suddenly pushed her towards the lake!
Luckily, Margaret dodged quickly. They seemed to argue after that. Even though there was no sound, the video showed Ella's angry face, treating Margaret like an enemy. Meanwhile, Margaret stayed calm in the video.
After a few minutes of arguing, Ella suddenly lunged at Margaret. Margaret sidestepped. Then Ella slipped and fell into Lover's Lake.
The video ended there.
When William found out Margaret was caught up in this mess, he had Peter look for evidence to clear her name. After days of searching, Peter finally found this video. The video showed everything, clearing Margaret of any suspicion.
"No, this can't be real!" Ella was stunned seeing the video.
It was over, totally over! She had no way to argue back.
William's icy gaze swept over Ella. "The truth's out. I don't need to say more."
"No. Let me explain!" Ella, pale as a ghost, stammered in panic.
Margaret cut her off calmly. "Ella, the truth's clear. We're handing this over to the cops. If you have any decency left, you should turn yourself in."
Ella thought, 'No way, I can't turn myself in! I can't go to jail!'
Despair washed over her.
It was all Margaret's fault! If it weren't for her, Ella wouldn't have been fired by William, lost her job, or been hated by everyone. William would have fallen for her!
"Margaret, even if I die, I won't let you go!" A crazed look flashed in Ella's eyes as she grabbed a fruit knife from the bedside table and lunged at Margaret.
Even if she died, she wanted Margaret to go down with her!
Margaret's face turned serious. This felt all too familiar.
Last time it was in the Fisher Group's underground garage, and now, Ella was pulling this stunt in front of a crowd! She was nuts!
To avoid a repeat of last time, Margaret stood her ground, while William stepped in again, grabbing Ella's arm just as she aimed the knife at Margaret.
Just a bit more, and the knife would've hit Margaret.
The live audience was stunned. It took a few seconds for anyone to react.
The comments blew up.
[WTF, did I just see that? Ella actually tried to kill someone in public?]
[Murderer Ella!]
[William is such a badass!]
The scene was so sudden that Peter had the reporters cut the live feed and asked them to leave. William's goal today was just to clear Margaret's name. Now that it was done, the reporters were no longer needed.
William threw Ella to the ground, looking down at her with a deadly glare. "Ella, still not sorry?"
"William, why? Why are you so good to Margaret? She's just a bitch! One day, she'll hurt you!" Ella, lying on the ground with a twisted face, screamed in defiance.
The hospital security, alerted by the chaos, took Ella away.
"Margaret, you okay?" When Ella grabbed the knife, Lyle wanted to protect Margaret, but he was a step too late.
"She's fine." Seeing Lyle's concern for Margaret, William's face darkened. He tightened his grip on Margaret's shoulder, pulling her closer.
Margaret then realized she was still in William's arms and quickly pushed him away. "Thanks."
William raised an eyebrow. "No need to thank me."
"William, you're nuts! That was so dangerous. What if Ella had really hurt you?" Abigail, unable to stand it, stepped forward, pushed Margaret aside, and stood next to William.
Margaret's face turned cold. "Abigail, didn't you say you saw me push Ella into the water with your own eyes? What do you have to say now?"
