Chapter 404 An "Accident"

After leaving the airport, Margaret was in a gloomy mood, lost in thought as she drove back to the hospital.

Juniper, sitting beside her, watched Margaret's expression, frowning slightly. She tried to comfort her, saying, "Maybe Dr. Holt has his reasons. Don't worry, you'll find out about your parents eventually. These things can't be rushed."

"But..." Margaret's brow furrowed tightly, her tone urgent and tinged with undisguised disappointment.

She had always been curious about her parents, but Pryce had never told her anything. Now that she finally had a lead, it had come to a dead end again.

Her words trailed off into a long sigh. Pryce was already on his way back to Crystal Peak. Pressing him further might only backfire.

Better to let it go.

When they returned to the hospital, Juniper pushed open the door to the room and saw Alden already dressed in his coat, sitting by the bed, which was neatly made.

Juniper was puzzled and instinctively asked, "Alden, where are you going?"

Alden turned at the sound of the door opening, looking at Juniper and Margaret as they entered. He nodded and smiled, "You're back."

He paused at Juniper's question. Although he still felt a bit awkward talking to her, he knew he had to get used to it.

He clasped his hands together, thinking for a moment before saying, "Now that Dr. Holt is gone and my leg is almost healed, I think it's time for me to leave. Staying here any longer, I might really forget how to walk."

He smiled shyly, clearly trying to lighten the mood with a joke.

"Are you planning to leave the hospital?" Margaret smiled too. Alden's meaning was clear, but Juniper obviously didn't want to accept it.

Alden nodded.

As expected, Juniper became anxious. Although she had agreed to break up completely once Alden recovered, now that the moment had come, she found it hard to let go.

"What are your plans for the future?"

Reason prevailed over emotion, and Juniper managed to control her impulse, though she looked at Alden with concern.

Alden pondered for a moment. "I've thought about it. I want to go back to the mountains to teach. The kids there are finally getting a proper education. They should study hard, and I've grown attached to them. I miss them after being away for so long."

The light in Juniper's eyes dimmed. Though she was reluctant, she nodded, her tone betraying her sadness.

"Alright, take care of yourself and your leg."

Alden hesitated, then nodded. "Okay, you and Samuel take care, too."

He couldn't forget the news about Samuel proposing to Juniper when he first started his treatment. Though he wasn't bitter anymore, it was still hard to let go completely.

Juniper was stunned, her smile fading as she nodded heavily.

"Okay, I need some fresh air."

She turned and walked slowly towards the door, but after a few steps, she felt dizzy and blacked out.

"Juniper! Juniper!"

Alden called out anxiously, ignoring his leg as he rushed to her side. He picked her up and called her name, but she didn't respond. He laid her on the bed and pressed the call button.

Margaret, unsure why Juniper had fainted, gently shook her arm, calling, "Juniper, Juniper, wake up!"

The doctor arrived shortly, and Margaret and Alden stepped aside to let him examine Juniper.

When Juniper woke up, Margaret and Alden were standing by the bed, watching her nervously. The doctor moved his stethoscope away and turned to Alden with a smile.

"Congratulations! I just checked her. She's perfectly healthy, but it seems she's pregnant. Congratulations! Once she feels better, you can visit the gynecology department for a detailed check-up."

The doctor naturally assumed Alden and Juniper were a couple. Juniper's eyes widened in shock, unsure what to say.

Was she pregnant?

Her hand slowly moved to her abdomen, looking down in disbelief. Margaret was equally stunned, barely able to believe her ears. She looked at Juniper and finally spoke.

"Juniper, are you pregnant?"

Samuel, she had to tell Samuel!

But then Margaret glanced at Alden. His reaction was still fresh in her mind. He clearly still had feelings for Juniper. How would he take this news?

After the doctor left, Alden remained silent, staring blankly at Juniper. His expression was empty, the tension replaced by a sense of loss.

"Alden."

Juniper was still reeling from the shock, her peripheral vision catching Alden about to leave. She instinctively reached out and grabbed his wrist.

She wanted to explain, but couldn't find the words.

"I've been here long enough. It's time for me to go. I've already bought my ticket. Since you're pregnant, you should rest. I'll get some fresh air."

Alden stopped, then turned back with a forced smile, gently prying Juniper's hand away before leaving the room.

Juniper looked to Margaret for help, "Margaret, what should I do?"

She had never expected to be pregnant, and the news had come so suddenly.

Alden stood outside the room, his emotions in turmoil. He looked up at the ceiling, exhaling deeply.

Juniper was pregnant. With things as they were, maybe returning to the mountains would bring him some peace.

After a long pause, Alden took out his phone and called Samuel.

"Samuel? It's Alden."

Samuel was surprised to hear from him but responded politely, "What can I do for you?"

"I wanted to let you know... Juniper is in the hospital. She's pregnant. I'm heading back to the mountains to teach. I thought you should know since you two are together. I hope you can give her the happiness she deserves."
