Chapter 214 Can You Come Back to Me?
"Answer me," William demanded, stepping up to Margaret, his arms caging her in. They were practically glued together now, the closeness making Margaret's breath hitch.
She was about to tell him to back off when the elevator jolted violently. The lights flickered a few times before plunging them into pitch black.
The sudden darkness felt like it was swallowing her whole, filling her with a fear she couldn't shake, and she let out a scream.
William pulled her into his arms, his voice softening. "Margaret, don't freak out."
That voice. That feeling.
Driven by fear, Margaret instinctively leaned into William's chest, her racing heart finding a bit of calm. She remembered the last time they were stuck in an elevator; he had held her just like this. But now, everything was different.
"The elevator's busted," William said, holding her with one arm while using his phone to light up the space.
Margaret stiffened. "What now?"
Knowing she hated the dark, William tightened his grip, pulling her closer. "It's cool, I'm here. Don't worry."
Pressed against him, she could even hear his heartbeat, giving her a weird sense of security.
William leaned in, inhaling the scent of her hair. That same scent, still making his heart race.
A wave of heat surged through him, and he lowered his head, his lips brushing her ear in the darkness. "Margaret, can you come back to me?"
His breath, full of hormones, washed over her cheek, making her tingle. Margaret's heart skipped a beat. 'What's he playing at? Is he trying to juggle me and Marjorie?'
Her face darkened, but before she could speak, the elevator lights flickered back on, and it started moving again.
The sudden light made her squint. She looked up to see William staring at her with those deep, ocean-like eyes. The scene in the dark lingered in her mind.
Taking a deep breath to clear her head, Margaret stepped aside.
Seeing the woman who had clung to him now keeping her distance, William's face turned grim. He smirked coldly. "You still haven't answered me."
Margaret gave a faint smile. "Did you ask something?"
"Margaret, can you come back to me?" William asked seriously, his gaze locked on her.
Just then, the elevator dinged, arriving at the first floor, and the doors opened.
"William, this is my stop," Margaret said, pushing him away and quickly stepping out.
Watching Margaret walk away like she had a mission, William's face tightened. He stepped out of the elevator, ready to follow her, but saw her heading straight for a black Bentley.
William knew that car. It was Lyle's.
"Margaret, you good?" Lyle asked, getting out and noticing her uneasy vibe.
Margaret snapped out of it and smiled. "Yeah, I'm fine."
"Let's roll," Lyle said, making a gentlemanly gesture.
Margaret smiled and slid into the passenger seat.
From a distance, William watched with cold eyes. Just a minute ago, she was clinging to him in the elevator, and now she was hopping into Lyle's car. What would it take to get Margaret back?
Standing there for a few minutes, William finally turned, headed to the parking lot, got into his car, and tailed Lyle's vehicle.
In the ward, Abigail watched jealously as William chased after Margaret. She stomped her foot and complained to Daisy, "Daisy, look at William! He's under that vixen's spell again!"
Daisy frowned and sighed, "Didn't they say William recently found someone named Marjorie? How is he tangled up with Margaret again? What's the deal?"
Angel and Margaret, Daisy didn't like either of them, but she had a special dislike for Margaret.
"I think William still has a thing for Margaret," Abigail said jealously, "It must be that shameless Margaret clinging to him!"
For some reason, Abigail always felt Margaret was her biggest rival. As for Marjorie, Abigail didn't think William's feelings for her were as deep as rumored. Besides, Angel seemed weak and easy to deal with. So, Abigail focused all her energy on Margaret.
"Daisy, you gotta find a way to get rid of Margaret!" Abigail said, gritting her teeth.
Daisy nodded, "Don't worry, I won't let Margaret cling to William."
"Okay," Abigail said obediently, "Daisy, I'm heading back to school."
As Abigail left the hospital, someone suddenly blocked her path. She looked up to see Ulysses standing there.
"Ulysses?" she said, surprised.
Since Ulysses had been driven away by Bradley, he had seemingly vanished. Abigail was puzzled as to why Ulysses had suddenly come to find her.
Ulysses took off his sunglasses and glanced towards the hospital. "Abigail, got a minute to talk?"
"Yeah." Abigail nodded.
She didn't know why Ulysses had come to her, but considering his connection with Daisy, she agreed.
Ulysses took Abigail to a high-end café. As they sat down, Abigail curiously asked, "Ulysses, what's up?"
"Abigail, you wanna deal with Margaret, right?" Ulysses asked directly, taking a sip of his coffee.
Abigail pressed her lips together, not confirming or denying.
Ulysses smiled. "Abigail, I got a way to help you."
"Really?" Abigail's eyes lit up.
Ulysses nodded. "Of course. But I'll need your cooperation."
Abigail gritted her teeth. "I'll do anything to get rid of that shameless Margaret!"
