Chapter 92 Trending Topic
Abigail froze for a sec, then reluctantly muttered, "I must've seen it wrong."
William's video just blew the lid off what really went down that day, totally busting Abigail's lie.
"Seen it wrong?" Margaret scoffed. "No way you and your buddy both saw it wrong at the same time. If I remember right, lying under oath is a crime. You could get locked up, or worse."
"You're full of it. I just saw it wrong," Abigail snapped, trying to dodge the blame. She shot William a pleading look. "William, back me up here."
But William just gave her a cold stare and grabbed Margaret's hand. "Let's bounce."
With Abigail glaring daggers at them, Margaret and William walked out of the ward and into the elevator.
"Didn't see that coming from you today," William said, turning to Margaret, his voice heavy. "Didn't think you'd come straight to the hospital to face Ella."
Margaret grinned. "Do I look like someone who takes crap lying down?"
William's lips twitched into a slight smile, and he gave Margaret a long look before shaking his head. "Nope."
"Thanks for earlier," Margaret hesitated, then said.
She hadn't expected William to stand up for her and dig up that crucial video exposing Ella. Even Anthony couldn't get it, but William did, probably at a big cost. It was hard not to feel touched. But...
"I told you I'd have your back," William said, his voice smooth and magnetic, sending shivers down Margaret's spine.
Margaret's brow furrowed, and she instinctively shifted a bit away.
William's deep gaze flickered with disappointment. Did Margaret really want to keep her distance from him? Did she really feel nothing for everything he had done for her?
With his hands shoved in his pockets, William's handsome face turned a bit cold.
The elevator's atmosphere got a little tense. Margaret bit her lip and looked away, avoiding his eyes.
Just then, Margaret's phone rang—it was Xavier.
Margaret quickly answered, "Grandpa, why are you calling me out of the blue?"
Xavier's hearty laugh boomed from the other end. "Saw what happened today on TV. William's a good kid, knows how to look out for you."
Margaret stayed silent, feeling a bit embarrassed. Xavier's voice was so loud, William must've heard it in the tight space of the elevator.
Xavier went on, "It's been almost a month since you two got together, right? How's it going? When's the wedding?"
"Oh, Grandpa, what are you talking about?" Margaret's face turned red.
"No joke. William's talented, good-looking, capable, and responsible. He's a great match for you," Xavier said, clearly impressed with William.
"Grandpa, I gotta go. Talk later!" Margaret quickly hung up, hearing William chuckle softly.
"Your grandpa's got good taste, better than yours," William teased, a smirk playing on his lips.
Margaret rolled her eyes. "Is there anyone as full of themselves as you?"
Ignoring him, Margaret stared at the flashing red numbers in the elevator, praying they'd hit the first floor ASAP.
As soon as they stepped out, William's phone buzzed—it was Bradley.
"Grandpa, what's up?" William answered, cool as ever.
"I haven't seen you and Margaret in ages. When are you two coming over?" Bradley's voice boomed through the phone.
William nodded. "I'll come when I get a chance."
"Don't wait for a chance, come tonight. I'll have the kitchen whip up your favorites." Bradley hung up before William could even respond.
William shook his head, a helpless grin on his face. Bradley was just as stubborn and decisive as he was.
"What's going on?" Margaret asked, curious.
William turned, a slight smirk on his lips. "Grandpa wants us over for dinner tonight."
"Oh, got it." Margaret's lips curved into a faint smile.
Both their grandpas calling at the same time? Yeah, something was definitely up.
"I'll pick you up after work," William said, his face expressionless.
Back at the office, Margaret barely had time to sit down before Mabel rushed over, eyes sparkling.
"Your clapback this morning was epic!" Mabel gushed, looking at Margaret like she was a rockstar.
Margaret gave a small smile. "Ella had it coming."
"How are you so chill? Do you know how viral you are right now?" Mabel shoved her phone in Margaret's face, practically vibrating with excitement. "Look, you're trending everywhere!"
Margaret glanced at the screen. Sure enough, the top trending video was her giving CPR to Ella. Now, Margaret was the internet's new darling, the epitome of beauty and kindness. And everyone was buzzing about her and William.
[Margaret is stunning, and William is a total hottie. They're perfect together!]
[All in for Margaret and William!]
But, of course, there were haters too.
[I heard Margaret's from the sticks. She's just a gold-digger. She doesn't deserve William!]
Margaret rubbed her temples. She'd gone to the hospital to expose Ella, not to become a viral sensation. She hadn't expected William to show up, let alone announce her as his fiancée in front of all those reporters. The media frenzy was definitely not part of her plan.
After a moment, Margaret shot a text to Anthony: [Take down all the trending news about me.]
Anthony replied with a teasing tone: [Why, Ada? You look amazing in those pics and vids, and your fiancé is a total snack. Why take them down? Let us enjoy the show a bit longer.]
[Just do it. Quit messing around. You have half an hour. I don't want to see any news about me!]
[Got it!]
In his office, William squinted at his phone screen. The photo of him holding Margaret's hand was crystal clear, and the comments were blowing up.
William's lips curved into a slight smile. He scrolled through the comments, clearly entertained. But within minutes, all the trending news about Margaret vanished without a trace.
