Chapter 405 The Child's Fate

"What? What did you just say?"

Samuel shouted, completely taken aback. He'd been feeling down these past few days because Juniper had been avoiding him. But now Alden was saying that Juniper was pregnant?

Samuel clearly remembered that night at the hotel; it was Juniper's first time. So...

A thought slowly formed in his mind, and Samuel's eyes widened, his expression quickly turning to joy.

Alden, however, frowned. He didn't understand Samuel's reaction. Was this typical irresponsibility?

With that thought, his tone became more serious, almost stern.

"Yeah, Juniper's pregnant. You two are together, right? Since she’s carrying your child, I hope you'll step up and not let her get hurt."

With that, Alden hung up the phone. The hallway was empty, and he tilted his head back, exhaling deeply.

It was time to end this.

Juniper clutched Margaret's wrist anxiously. She couldn't believe she was pregnant. She and Samuel had only been together that one time at the hotel. How could this be happening?

It felt like a scene straight out of a TV drama, happening to her.

"Margaret, what should I do?" Juniper's hand rested on her lower abdomen, looking helplessly at Margaret. She was also worried about Alden's reaction.

"If Alden knows about this, will he—"

Margaret quickly patted Juniper's hand, soothing her gently. "Alright, alright, don't be scared. Take care of yourself first. I'll go check on things."

Margaret placed Juniper's outstretched hand back under the blanket and walked into the hallway, turning to look at Alden.

"Are you really set on going back to teach in the mountains? Juniper will miss you a lot."

"Miss me? Even if she does, it can't be helped."

Alden shook his head and smiled wryly.

Once a decision is made, there's no turning back. Besides, he had thought it through over the past few days. Maybe he and Juniper were from two different worlds.

Even if they stayed together, they might still end up apart.

Alden glanced through the window at the woman inside the room and said to Margaret, "I've made up my mind. I'm going back to the mountains. I just called Samuel. Since they're together, Samuel needs to take responsibility for Juniper and the baby. Please take good care of her for me."

Margaret was silent for a moment, but eventually nodded. She knew that once Alden made up his mind, nothing could change it.

After Alden hung up, Samuel's mind was filled with the news of Juniper's pregnancy. He was in a daze, still in shock. But after the shock came joy, excitement, and a sense of fulfillment.

Once he snapped out of it, he hurriedly put on his coat and drove to the hospital, practically sprinting into the room, barely acknowledging Margaret outside the door.

"Juniper, you're pregnant?"

Samuel's sudden entrance startled Juniper. His eyes were shining with joy, his face beaming. He quickly adjusted his voice, worried he might scare her.

Juniper was stunned, looking at Samuel in disbelief. Her fingers tightened around the blanket. "Why are you here?"

Samuel moved to her side and tentatively took her hand, speaking earnestly. "Alden called me and told me you were pregnant. I came right away. This is a big deal. Why didn't you call me?"

Juniper couldn't hide her disappointment. She lowered her eyes and turned her head slightly, slowly pulling her hand away from Samuel's.

"So he told you. I just found out about myself. Honestly, I'm not ready for this. I don't know how to be a mom."

Samuel paused, pulling his hand back. But he quickly composed himself.

Since Juniper was having his child, he had to take responsibility.

"I didn't expect to become a dad so soon either. But don't worry. Now that you're pregnant, I'll take care of you and the baby. I'll marry you."

Juniper's whole body tensed, her eyes avoiding his even more. Though her impression of Samuel had improved, she couldn't just let go of Alden so easily.

"No," She shook her head and said, "I'm not ready. Besides, we don't have a foundation for a relationship. I don't want this baby."

Juniper took a deep breath, mustering the courage to voice her decision. Samuel was momentarily stunned but then shook his head firmly.

"No, you can't abort the baby. I'm the father, and I have a say in this. Besides, the surgery could harm your body. If you have the baby, I'll take care of it."

Samuel's words were resolute, almost passionate. Margaret entered the room at that moment, hearing their conversation, and frowned.

She stepped forward to mediate. "Samuel, this is a big deal. Juniper is understandably scared. It was just an accident between you two. But I understand your point. You should go home for now and not overwhelm her."

Samuel turned to look at Margaret, clearly wanting to say more but holding back.

He wanted Juniper to keep the baby, but he knew Margaret was her best friend. If anyone could persuade her, it was Margaret.

After a moment of silence, Samuel nodded. "Margaret, please talk to Juniper for me. I'll head out."

After Samuel left, Margaret looked at the distraught Juniper lying in bed and sighed, sitting beside her to offer heartfelt advice.

"Juniper, you were too impulsive just now."

"But I really haven't made up my mind."

Juniper's grip on the blanket tightened, her face pale. She was undeniably anxious and hadn't figured out how to face the situation if the baby were born.

Margaret understood Juniper well, knowing her thoughts. But the baby was innocent.

"I know you're feeling conflicted, but the baby is innocent. If he came into this world, he wouldn't want to be abandoned by his parents. If you don't want to get married, we can raise the child together. It's quite common for single parents nowadays."

"Just think it over carefully. Don't make a hasty decision, you might regret."
