Chapter 142 Falling Into the Sea
"Hmm?" William wrapped his arms around her, his deep eyes locked on her face, a mix of nerves and excitement.
"William, my answer is yes, I accept your propose," Margaret whispered in his ear, "I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
She paused, then looked up, her eyes soft and full of love. "No matter what, life or death."
"Margaret, I've been waiting forever to hear that." William's eyes lit up, and he grinned, leaning down to kiss her deeply.
That familiar spark hit him again, and his breath caught.
"Margaret, Margaret." He held her tight, murmuring her name as he deepened the kiss.
They kissed like there was no tomorrow, electricity buzzing through Margaret's body. She'd never felt this moved before.
After everything they'd been through, Margaret finally got it. She wanted to spend her life with this amazing guy. No matter what.
Even if William had a history with Marjorie. So what? Now that Margaret knew how she felt, she wasn't gonna let anyone mess with her and William, not even Marjorie.
She wanted his heart all to herself. Even if Marjorie came back, it wouldn't change a thing. She wasn't giving up!
Margaret forgot about the panic, the fear, the anxiety. She forgot they were still in a life-or-death situation. She took a deep breath, pushing away all the bad vibes. Right now, it was all about the romance.
Who knew how long they kissed before William finally pulled back, reluctantly.
"Margaret, I'm so happy." He pressed his forehead to hers, a soft smile on his lips.
This close, her ears burned, and she leaned weakly into his arms. She should've told him sooner, but she couldn't get past his thing for Marjorie. Why didn't she face her feelings earlier and try dating him sooner? Instead of waiting until now, when their lives were hanging by a thread.
Their situation was really bad. Margaret wrapped her arms around William and bravely looked down. Below was a vast expanse, unclear if it was land or water. But she had a feeling it was the ocean.
"William, what do we do now?" she asked, worried.
William held her tight, like she was the most precious thing in the world, his eyes full of tenderness. "Don't worry, we'll figure it out."
"Okay." Margaret nodded gently.
Right now, she just wanted to be a woman protected by someone. As long as she was with him, she feared nothing.
The parachute drifted down slowly, and soon enough, they could see what was below.
"William, it's the ocean," Margaret frowned. "Without food or fresh water, we can only last a day or two. What do we do?"
William frowned too. "I've got some food and water in my backpack. There should be ships passing by."
He had prepped as best as he could before they jumped.
He pulled out his phone, but there was no signal.
"How's it looking?" Margaret asked, eyeing the phone.
William shook his head, looking serious. "No signal."
He tried to send their location to Peter, but it didn't go through. Just as expected.
Margaret's eyes flashed with disappointment.
William put the phone away and squeezed her hand. "No matter what, as long as we're together, we'll be fine."
The warmth from his hand seemed to give her strength. An idea popped into Margaret's head. "I have an idea."
"Yes?" William looked surprised.
Margaret took off her necklace and held it tight. It was a birthday gift from Xavier when she turned sixteen.
Back then, Xavier had smiled and said, "Margaret, this necklace was specially made for you. It might look ordinary, but it has a big function."
Margaret had taken it, confused, and asked, "What function?"
Xavier pointed to the pendant and smiled. "See this flower?"
"Yeah." Margaret looked at the small flower on the pendant, still not getting what was special about it.
Xavier explained, "This is a signal transmitter, and the flower is the switch. If you're ever in trouble, just press the switch, and I'll get your distress signal and come to rescue you."
"So cool." Margaret had put on the necklace happily but didn't take it seriously. After all, not many people could mess with her.
Over the years, she had never tried it. But if Xavier said it worked, it was worth a shot. She just hoped it worked out here on the sea.
Margaret explained to William, "Xavier gave this to me. He said if I'm in danger, I can use it to get his help. I hope it works."
"Give it a shot." William glanced at the necklace in her hand. It didn't look special from the outside.
Margaret's slender fingers pressed the flower switch.
Instantly, the dull necklace started to glow green, starting light and getting darker.
"It really works!" Margaret felt a surge of joy seeing the necklace change color.
But along with the joy, she felt a bit worried. "I hope Grandpa gets our distress signal."
