Chapter 359 Past Events 1
"Did you understand? When the time comes, we'll bring the people here, and you better keep an eye on them. If the deal goes through, you'll definitely get your share of the benefits!"
Angel stood behind her dad, watching as a burly man mercilessly poked her dad's shoulder.
Her dad nodded and bowed, holding a few large hundred-dollar bills in his hand, his face plastered with a smile.
Her stepmom stood beside him, keeping smiling, looking nothing like her usual sharp and mean self.
"Got it, Leon. You can count on us! We won't delay your business."
Angel tilted her head, her gaze fixed on the money in her dad's hand, thinking having money mean she could finally live a good life.
That night, Angel's stepmom and dad seemed very happy. Her stepmom even made two extra meat dishes and didn't give Angel a hard time during dinner.
The next morning at breakfast, Angel's dad kept urging them to hurry up and eat so they could go out and take care of business. He even changed into a new, washed-out indigo jacket.
The three of them went to a small cabin in the mountains. Within ten minutes, the man named Leon, whom Angel had seen the day before, walked in. This time, he had two kids with him, a boy and a girl, both about Angel's age.
The boy was a bit taller, with a calm expression and steady gaze. However, both his and the girl's hands were tied with thick hemp rope, leaving them with no ability to resist.
Angel was immediately drawn to the boy at first sight.
The boy had a very handsome face, with fair skin, thick eyebrows, big eyes, a high nose bridge, and thin, tightly pressed lips. His eyes were full of light.
'This boy is so good-looking!' That was Angel's first thought when she saw William.
"Here, these are the two. You better keep an eye on them! We brought these kids up the mountain early in the morning, and we're starving! Hurry up and make us some food!" Leon pushed the young William and the girl forward. Angel's dad quickly pulled them over, and her stepmom hurriedly agreed, turning to busy herself in the kitchen.
Angel's gaze followed William the entire time.
She had never seen such a good-looking boy.
After eating and drinking their fill, Leon and his gang didn't leave. Instead, they stayed in the spacious main room, drinking and smoking. William and the girl had long been locked in a small room by Angel's dad.
Angel's stepmom came out of the main room, nodding and bowing. Seeing Angel still standing outside, she pushed her.
"Go play by yourself! Don't just stand there!" After scolding Angel, her stepmom walked away, not paying her any more attention.
Angel glanced in the direction her stepmom had left. Voices came from the main room, so she walked over and pressed her ear to the door to eavesdrop.
The main room door wasn't fully closed; it was ajar, with a small gap. Angel peeked through the gap to see what was happening inside.
"Why are we doing this business? It's risky and not worth it. Aren't you afraid of getting caught?" The speaker was a blond guy next to Leon. Angel remembered him.
Leon was lounging on the bed, leaning against a wooden wardrobe, with several empty beer bottles at his feet. He clicked his tongue impatiently and said, "Shut up. I was told this kid's family lives in the city, and his dad is some big shot in business! In short, they only have this one kid."
Leon finished picking his teeth and tossed the toothpick on the floor.
"The guy told me that as long as we kidnap him, we won't have to worry about our life in the future. We're just doing a job for someone. Once we hand the kid over and get the money, we'll go abroad and live the high life. Who could find us then?" Leon chuckled a few times after speaking.
Angel frowned, realizingthey were planning to sell that boy for money.
Before she could react, she saw another bald man sitting on a stool ask, "But Leon, if that boy is an only kid, what's the deal with the girl? Are we being tricked?"
Leon waved his hand dismissively. "The girl was just collateral. She almost ruined my plan. I had just taken the boy from the park when she saw us. So I brought her along to avoid the hidden trouble. She's pretty, so we can find a buyer and make some extra cash."
"Alright, enough talking. Go check on them. Don't make too much noise and cause any trouble." Leon, reeking of alcohol, got off the bed, kicking over a beer bottle with a clatter.
Angel quickly ran to the open space outside, pretending she didn't know anything.
When Leon and his men came out, they glanced nonchalantly in Angel's direction before heading to the room where the kids were locked up.
Angel watched them walk away from the corner of her eye, then sneaked a peek. One of the men was holding a black, fierce-looking German Shepherd.
Not knowing what they were planning to do with the dog, Angel worried about the boy and secretly followed them, hiding outside the window to watch.
Inside the small dark room, the girl was sitting on the bed, curled up in the corner, while William sat beside her, frowning as he surveyed the surroundings.
"Will we make it back home?" The girl swallowed nervously and asked in a small voice.
A ten-year-old girl would naturally be scared in such a strange environment.
"Don't be afraid. Someone will come to save us." William pressed his lips together, his tone firm.
"You two just dream it. No one will come to save you." A voice came from the door. It was Leon and his two lackeys. Leon looked at William with a sinister smile, his mouth twisted in mockery.
They entered the small dark room, dragging the dog along.
"Who are you? Let us go!" William's hands were tied, but he clenched his fists, instinctively shielding the girl. He stared at Leon without fear, but his eyes narrowed when he saw the dog.
Leon sneered, and the dog in his hand barked excitedly at the two kids. "You can only blame your family for crossing the wrong people. You two stay put here. Once your family sends the money, we'll let you go."
