Chapter 166 The Situation Is Not Optimistic

"The surgery went great," Patterson said, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses.

William let out a small sigh of relief, but then Patterson added cautiously, "But..."

"But what?" William's heart clenched, and he asked urgently.

"But Bradley's condition is still touch and go," Patterson said carefully. "I can't promise he'll wake up."

William's face darkened, his voice rough. "No way! Grandpa's gonna be fine!"

Soon, a nurse wheeled out a mobile hospital bed.

"Grandpa." William stood by the bed, looking down at the unconscious Bradley, his heart aching.

Abigail stepped up. "William, don't stress too much. Grandpa will pull through."

William nodded faintly.

The next day, the weather was gloomy. Margaret groggily opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was a white glass lamp. 'Where am I?'

Rubbing her temples, the memories of yesterday slowly came back.

Yesterday was supposed to be her engagement day with William, but he was sneaking around with Marjorie behind her back. She called off the engagement, and Bradley fainted from the shock.

Scenes from yesterday kept flashing in Margaret's mind. Margaret's heart ached. Just as she was about to get up, the door opened, and Lyle walked in.

"Margaret, you're awake?" Lyle walked to the bedside, looking concerned.

"It's you?" Margaret looked around. "Is this your place?"

"Yeah," Lyle said softly. "I made breakfast. What do you want to eat?"

Margaret shook her head. "Not hungry."

Seeing Margaret's worn-out face, Lyle's eyes filled with pity. "You need to eat something. I'll get you a glass of milk to start."

"Lyle," Margaret called out, "How's Bradley doing now?"

"I heard he had surgery but hasn't woken up yet," Lyle sighed.

Margaret's face tightened. "I want to go see Bradley."

"Then eat your breakfast first, and I'll take you there." Lyle patted Margaret's shoulder, hesitating. "You and William..."

Margaret wanted to go to the hospital to see Bradley, which meant she would definitely run into William. Lyle was worried that Margaret would be hurt when seeing the man she had just broken up with.

"Lyle, I don't want to talk about it right now," Margaret took a deep breath and said calmly.

Just thinking about William made her heart ache.

Margaret didn't want to think about those painful things now; she just wanted to make sure Bradley was okay. She forced herself to eat a few bites of breakfast and then impatiently urged Lyle to take her to the hospital.

Sitting in the car, Margaret habitually opened her phone to check the news. News about her and William's canceled engagement was all over the internet.

There were even photos of William and Marjorie online!

Margaret's heart skipped a beat. These entertainment reporters were really everywhere, even capturing Marjorie.

Seeing those photos of William holding Marjorie, with her all cozy in his arms, Margaret felt like someone had punched her in the gut.

The online comments were brutal, mocking and insulting her without mercy.

[Margaret is such a bitch, got dumped by William and still pretends to be noble by canceling the wedding, causing Bradley to be critically ill, so shameless!]

[A bumpkin is a bumpkin, how could she match William, she deserved to be dumped!]

[Does anyone know who William's new lover is?]

Seeing Margaret's face looking so bad, Lyle glanced at her. "Margaret, you okay?"

"I'm fine," Margaret snapped out of it and locked her phone screen.

From childhood to now, Margaret had never been insulted so badly. Even though Margaret kept telling herself not to think about it, she couldn't help but feel hurt by everyone's accusations.

"Margaret, we're here," Lyle's words brought Margaret back to reality.

Margaret opened the car door and got out. "Lyle, wait here for me."

"I'll go with you," Lyle said worriedly.

Margaret said calmly, "No need, just wait here."

She was already in the spotlight, and at this critical moment, she didn't want to be seen with Lyle. After all, Lyle was very popular, and many entertainment reporters were trying to get news about him.

Seeing Margaret insist, Lyle's eyes darkened. "Be careful, call me if you need anything."

"Okay." Margaret nodded faintly.

As soon as she walked into the hospital, two young nurses pointed at her.

"Look, isn't that Margaret Scott?"

"Yeah! The one who got dumped by Mr. Fisher. What's she doing at the hospital?"

"Could she be here to see Bradley?"

"She still has the nerve to come? I bet she's here to pester Mr. Fisher!"

"So shameless!"

The two young nurses kept gossiping, staring at Margaret with disdainful eyes. Margaret walked past them expressionlessly and went to the inpatient department.

"Excuse me, which room is Bradley Fisher in?" Margaret asked at the service desk.

The nurse at the desk looked up at Margaret and pointed forward. "The VIP ward on the eighth floor."

"Thanks." Margaret took the elevator straight to the eighth floor and looked around. She saw that the innermost ward was heavily guarded, with two bodyguards at the door. Bradley should be in that ward.

Margaret walked forward, feeling heavier with each step. She thought, 'William should be in the ward now, right? Does he still think I caused Bradley's condition?'

Margaret rubbed her temples, trying to calm down. Now was not the time to think about that; the priority was Bradley's condition.

As Margaret was thinking, a sharp woman's voice suddenly came from behind. "Margaret, what are you doing here?"

Margaret paused and turned around, seeing Abigail and Daisy walking towards her angrily.

Margaret frowned, not wanting to deal with these two unreasonable women, and continued walking forward, but Abigail grabbed her arm.

"Margaret, isn't it enough that you caused my grandpa to be in a coma? How dare you come here?" Abigail glared at Margaret and scolded.
