Chapter 383 Playing Along
William noticed the surprise on Margaret's face and couldn't help but smile. When you like someone, everything they do seems adorable.
He took Margaret's hand, stepped closer, and wrapped his arm around her waist. "I missed you. Finally found some time to come see you."
Despite his words, there was a hint of grievance in William's tone, but he only showed this side of himself to Margaret.
Margaret couldn't help but laugh. She gently pulled her hand away from his and said softly, "Couldn't you come during the day or after work? It's already midnight. Shouldn't you be resting at Water Moon Estate?"
The mention of Water Moon Estate made William's head ache.
He was juggling the company and the North Bay amusement park project, and when he got home, he had to deal with Angel. The latter was especially exhausting, both mentally and physically.
If it weren't for the need to uncover the mastermind behind Angel, he wouldn't be putting himself through this.
"So, should I take that as you being jealous?" William teased, seeing Margaret's expression. He leaned in close to her ear, his voice low and slow, filled with a teasing allure.
"Let's not talk about Water Moon Estate right now. I think about you every day and only want to be with you."
William moved behind Margaret, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin on her shoulder, his lips brushing lightly against her ear.
Margaret turned slightly, spinning in his arms to face him. She cupped his face in her hands and gave him a gentle smile.
"Alright, I know you miss me, and I miss you too. I'm glad you came over today, but we need to focus on the bigger picture. You'll have to bear with it a little longer."
She winked at him playfully and stood on tiptoe to kiss his forehead. "Don't be upset. By the way, Angel has been at Water Moon Estate for a while now. Has she done anything unusual?"
William sighed as they moved to sit on the couch. He thought about Angel's recent behavior and said, "Lately, Angel has been clinging to me. Sometimes she brings snacks and soup to my study. Tonight, she even asked if the company had a big project because I've been so busy. I think she's planning something."
If Angel were really Marjorie, she wouldn't be doing these things.
This Angel seemed to have an ulterior motive for being around him.
Margaret pondered for a moment, her knuckles pressed to her lips. Suddenly, she had a good idea, though it would require William to endure a bit more.
She looked at William, hesitated, and then said, "I think, since someone sent her to get close to you, we should use this opportunity to our advantage. Why don't you leak some information about the amusement park project to her and see what she does?"
William instinctively nodded but quickly realized what she was suggesting. Margaret wanted him to get closer to Angel?
He pursed his lips and looked at Margaret, half-jokingly asking, "So, you're okay with me getting closer to her for a few days? Won't you be jealous?"
Margaret was momentarily taken aback. She avoided his gaze, sat up straight, and intertwined her fingers.
Honestly, she did feel a bit jealous, but she was usually rational. Besides, if they didn't solve the problem with Angel, she and William could never be truly happy together.
Enduring it for a while wasn't a big deal.
But William clearly didn't see it that way.
Seeing Margaret's expression, he felt a bit unhappy. Though he was partly joking, it was clear he was genuinely jealous.
"Are you hoping I'll end up with Angel?"
Margaret was genuinely stunned.
She turned to look at William, surprised. Before she could respond, he gently pinched her cheek.
William's face was suddenly very close, right in front of her.
"Or have you been spending more time with Lyle while I wasn't around? Do you two chat often?"
Men in love can be childish and petty.
Margaret finally understood that the so-called "dramatic literature" she read online wasn't baseless.
She looked at William helplessly, unable to think of a response. She simply moved a bit further away from him, picked up her coffee cup, and blew on the steam.
Online gossip wasn't dying down anytime soon, but Samuel's team was working hard to manage the PR and suppress the rumors.
After all, Juniper was a private citizen, and the private lives of both celebrities and ordinary people were important. This was a principle Margaret always upheld in her company.
William was still busy with the North Bay amusement park project. The press conference video was already online. Despite his jealousy, he had made up his mind about Angel.
"William, you're back."
That evening, when William returned to Water Moon Estate after work, Angel greeted him as usual, clinging to him.
William's eyes held a slight smile. He was a master at wearing a mask, except with Margaret.
He gently caressed Angel's cheek, his thumb brushing lightly. "I came back a bit late today. Did the nurse take good care of you? You need to take care of your health."
"I've been taking my medicine on time when you're not here. The nurse says I'm recovering quickly."
They exchanged pleasantries, and during dinner, Angel barely ate, instead watching William intently.
William was puzzled and asked instinctively, "What's wrong?"
"William, you've lost weight recently. Is work very busy? Do you need me to make some supplements for you to take to the office?"
Here it came.
William paused, spoon in hand, then shook his head, pretending to be relaxed. "No, it's just that the company recently acquired the North Bay land to build an amusement park. We're finalizing the details of the project plan and the surrounding environment, so it's been busy."
"Once this project is settled, I'll have more free time to spend with you. But for the next few days, I'll be busy with the project plan, so I'll be in the study most of the time."
