Chapter 392 I Want to Accompany Him
Margaret glanced at William's slightly angry face, took a deep breath to steady herself, and said, "Let's wait until Lyle's surgery is over. If word gets out now, it won't be good."
Though William was fuming, he had to admit Margaret had a point. He reluctantly exhaled and said, "Fine, I'll wait until after Lyle's surgery. But you owe me an explanation."
Time dragged on, and the sign outside the operating room still read: Surgery in Progress.
Margaret's anxiety grew as she thought about Lyle's words. William paced back and forth, the hallway outside the room eerily silent.
After about two hours, the sign finally turned green, and soon after, the doctor emerged.
Margaret heard the door and quickly approached the doctor. "Doctor, how's Lyle?"
William stood nearby, his brow furrowing slightly at the mention of Lyle's name, but he stayed silent.
The doctor visibly relaxed, his tone lightening. "Don't worry, the surgery was successful, thanks to your quick action. The bullet missed his heart by a bit, and we've successfully removed it. He'll need a few months to recover, though. He can't get too emotional or do anything strenuous. He'll need to stay in the hospital for observation until the wound is fully healed, and then he can rest at home."
Margaret let out a sigh of relief, a smile creeping onto her face. "Thank you, doctor."
"No problem," the doctor replied with a smile. "The surgery just ended, and he's resting now. Keep your voices down so you don't disturb him."
"Of course."
Watching the doctor leave, Margaret finally felt a weight lift off her shoulders. She had been truly terrified.
If Lyle had died because of her, she would carry that guilt and sorrow for the rest of her life.
William had been watching Margaret's expression closely. Seeing her relief, he pursed his lips and looked away, feeling a mix of emotions.
No guy wants to see his girlfriend worried about another man.
Jealousy is only natural.
"We..." William started, but Margaret had already turned and walked into the room. The door closed behind her as she stood by Lyle's bed, looking at his unconscious form with a mix of emotions, mostly happiness.
Lyle's words before the surgery...
Forget it, she thought.
"Now that Lyle's okay, can you explain things to me?" William asked, trying to keep his voice calm.
Margaret lowered her eyes, unsure how to respond to Lyle's feelings, especially since he nearly died for her.
In a way, she owed him.
As for William...
Margaret thought for a moment, then turned to William. "William, why don't you go home? I'll call you later. I want to stay with Lyle for now."
Lyle was hurt because of her. She couldn't just leave with William right now.
William was already holding back his anger, and hearing Margaret's words made his face darken. He turned to her, his voice stern. "Margaret, you're my girlfriend. Lyle's awake now, and the doctors will take care of him."
"Lyle got hurt because of me. I think I should stay..."
Margaret didn't finish before William grabbed her chin, forcing her to look at him. His face was close, and he kissed her forcefully, prying her mouth open and tangling their tongues together.
William's kiss was aggressive, almost suffocating Margaret. She struggled to push him away, finally succeeding.
Margaret gasped for air, her face red with anger. She raised her hand and slapped William hard.
"You're crazy! Absolutely crazy!"
William's head snapped to the side, stunned. He hadn't expected Margaret to hit him.
He slowly raised his hand to his cheek, his tongue pressing against the inside of his mouth. His eyes returned to Margaret, filled with a mix of anger and a hint of mocking laughter.
"You hit me for Lyle, didn't you?"
William's gaze changed, filled with confusion and resentment. He swallowed hard but said nothing, turning and leaving quickly.
Margaret watched him go, her eyes stinging with tears, but she didn't call him back.
William's jealousy was ill-timed. He needed to think things through.
When William returned to Water Moon Estate, his face was still dark. Angel was sitting on the couch watching TV and smiled naturally when she saw him.
"William, where have you been today?"
William glanced at her. He and Angel were just pretending to be together, and after what happened with Margaret, he was in no mood for games.
"Just work stuff."
He left it at that and headed upstairs. Angel noticed his mood and quickly poured a glass of water, bringing it to him with a gentle voice.
"Work can be tough. Now that you're home, relax a bit. Have some water and unwind. You can delegate tasks to your team."
William was frustrated but took the glass and drank a sip before heading to his study.
Angel lingered in the living room for a while, then went to the kitchen to get some snacks she had made. She placed them next to William and smiled. "William, you must be hungry after coming home so late. I made these snacks today. Try them and see if you like them."
She sat beside him, her hand on his arm, moving towards his chest.
William remained cold. "I'm not hungry right now. I'll eat later. I have work to do."
"William, I spent a long time making these. Just try one."
William pulled his arm away, his brow furrowing as he pinched the bridge of his nose, his tone heavier. "I'm really not in the mood right now, and I have work to finish. If you don't have anything else, please leave."
Angel's face fell, but she quietly left the room, closing the door behind her.
