Chapter 258 It Turned Out It Was Because of Lyle
The first scene had Skylar and Lyle doing their thing, with Margaret just chilling on the side, watching them.
This was the part where Juno, played by Skylar, first rolled into the palace.
Juno's family wasn't anything special, so during the selection, some other girls were giving her a hard time. She kept her cool and clapped back, and right then, the emperor, played by Lyle, walked by and was totally impressed.
The whole point of this scene was to show off Juno's smarts and chill vibe, but Skylar kept coming off kinda cocky, missing the mark on the character's feels.
Wayne was a total perfectionist, super serious about his work, always aiming for the best in every shot.
"Cut!" Wayne waved his hand and looked at Skylar. "Skylar, your expression's off. Let's do it again."
"Cut, Skylar, you're in the wrong spot. Let's do it again."
"Cut, Skylar, your expression's still not right!"
After a bunch of retakes, Skylar was feeling pretty humiliated.
Skylar had always been sure of her acting chops. She had outshined a lot of actresses and quickly became a big star, so she knew she had skills. But today, for some reason, she just wasn't in the zone.
Seeing Margaret there filled Skylar with jealousy, making it hard to focus. Especially with Margaret just standing there watching, it messed with her even more.
"Skylar, wanna take a break and find your groove?" After another stop, Wayne frowned and asked.
Skylar shot a look at Wayne. "Director Cooper, are you being extra tough on me today? This isn't our first rodeo; you know I can act."
Wayne gave a faint smile. "Skylar, it's not about being tough; you're just not in the right headspace today. Did you not sleep well? How about a break, and I'll shoot someone else's scene first."
Skylar wasn't having it. "I think the last take was fine, it can pass."
Seeing Skylar's half-hearted attitude, Margaret's face darkened, and she cleared her throat. "Director Cooper's right. Our mission at Starlight Entertainment is to give the audience the best films, no half-assing it."
Margaret then looked at Skylar. "Skylar, your performance just now wasn't good enough. Let's do it again."
Getting called out by Margaret in front of everyone made Skylar's face change. She was one of the core actors in the company, and Margaret had the nerve to say that in front of everyone.
Skylar cursed in her head, 'Who does Margaret think she is? She's just riding on her family's money to be the CEO of Starlight Entertainment. She doesn't know squat about acting!'
"Ms. Scott, you're right. But acting is a pro thing, and as an outsider, your take might be off," Skylar said mockingly.
Margaret picked up on Skylar's obvious hostility and frowned, saying coldly, "Even an outsider like me can see there's a problem, which shows just how bad your acting was just now!"
Skylar was momentarily speechless.
Margaret stepped forward, her tone icy. "If you can't bring your A-game, I have no problem finding someone else for the lead role."
Margaret's harsh words made Skylar's face go pale. Her fingers clenched into fists, glaring daggers at Margaret.
Skylar's expression shifted a few times, and just as she was about to snap back, her agent Clio Webb quickly pulled her aside and apologized to Margaret, "Ms. Scott, I'm really sorry. Skylar's been dealing with some family stuff and is in a bad mood. I apologize on her behalf."
As she spoke, Clio shot Skylar a meaningful look.
Skylar finally snapped out of it. No matter what, Margaret was the CEO. If she went head-to-head with Margaret, she'd be the one to lose. If Margaret really replaced her, her career would be toast.
Given Margaret's position, blacklisting Skylar would be a piece of cake. She had worked too hard to get where she was; she couldn't let it all go down the drain.
Thinking of this, Skylar forced a smile and apologized to Margaret, "I'm sorry, Ms. Scott. I didn't do my best just now. I'll give it my all."
"That's more like it." Margaret squinted her eyes and looked at Wayne.
Wayne turned to everyone, "Alright, let's take a ten-minute break. We'll pick it up in ten."
In the restroom, Clio helped Skylar adjust her clothes and said, "Skylar, you were too impulsive just now. No matter what, Ms. Scott is the CEO of Starlight Entertainment. Pissing her off is a bad move."
Skylar huffed, "I know!"
"Just keep your cool next time. Listen to what she says," Clio advised.
Skylar snorted, "What right does Margaret have? If it weren't for her family's money, she wouldn't even be here."
"Yeah, Skylar, you've made it this far on your own. You've got to protect what you've built." Clio had Skylar's back.
"What's so great about Margaret? Why does Lyle like her?" Skylar's eyes dimmed at the mention of Lyle. She thought she was the one perfect for Lyle.
"Skylar, I think Lyle's just temporarily blinded by Ms. Scott. He'll see your worth eventually. But for now, you can't afford to piss off her, got it?" Clio advised.
Clio knew about Skylar's feelings for Lyle. But unfortunately, Lyle had always kept his distance from Skylar.
It wasn't until a few days ago, when the media blew it up, that they found out Lyle had always had a thing for Margaret. And Margaret was the CEO of Starlight Entertainment, someone Skylar couldn't afford to cross.
Margaret walked to the restroom door and overheard their conversation. She stopped in her tracks and realized Skylar's beef with her was all because of Lyle.
Margaret rubbed her temples in frustration. ' Lyle has got to get tangled up with me, ignoring all the women chasing him, Grace, Mia, and now Skylar. It's a headache.'
