Chapter 237 Wait and See
Angel clutched her wound, looking all pitiful at William, her face twisted in pain. "William, it hurts like hell!"
Before William could even get a word out, Margaret stepped up, glaring down at Angel with a frosty look. "If you're hurt, you should be in the hospital. Why are you out here causing drama? First, you tried to pin the bid leak on me, and now you're saying I pushed you."
"You did push me," Angel shot back, tears streaming down her face.
William glanced at Angel and said in a deep voice to Peter, "Get Marjorie to the hospital."
"Yes, Mr. Fisher." Peter called for security and helped Angel up.
William turned and walked away without looking back.
Angel's eyes dimmed as she watched William's cold and distant back.
Back in the day, William would've rushed her to the hospital himself. But now, he just had Peter handle it.
Angel cursed in her head, 'It's all Margaret's fault! If it weren't for her, William wouldn't be treating me like this. Margaret, I won't let you get away with this!'
The afternoon press conference was held in the Fisher Group's conference hall.
As soon as Margaret walked in, reporters swarmed her.
"Ms. Scott, someone accused you of leaking the Fisher Group's bid. What's your response?"
Margaret smirked. "That's a load of crap. Why would I do that?"
"Some say you did it for money."
Margaret laughed like she heard the funniest joke ever. "Seriously?"
The reporter looked sheepish. "Of course not. We know you're the secret owner of Starlight Entertainment. No way you'd do it for a bit of cash."
"So, is someone framing you?" another reporter asked.
Margaret replied coolly, "Mr. Fisher will clear everything up at today's press conference."
At exactly two o'clock, Peter kicked off the press conference. "Welcome to the Fisher Group's press conference. We're here to clear up the North Bay project situation. Now, let's welcome Mr. Fisher to speak!"
Amid thunderous applause, William walked up to the stage.
He cleared his throat and started in a cold voice. "Regarding the recent North Bay project, I know everyone has questions. After our investigation, it's true that someone within the Fisher Group leaked our bid to other companies."
As soon as William said this, everyone started whispering. Even though there were already rumors and online buzz, hearing it from William himself was a shock.
People started chatting.
"Didn't expect a traitor in the Fisher Group."
"If it's not Margaret, then who?"
"Could it be Angel?"
A reporter asked William, "Mr. Fisher, do you know who leaked the bid? There are rumors it was Angel. Is that true?"
William replied coolly, "The person responsible has already been canned from the Fisher Group and got what they deserved. I'm done with this mess."
Just then, a reporter yelled, "Mr. Phillips! Mr. Phillips is here!"
Margaret frowned and looked towards the entrance. She saw Jack stroll in.
Jack showing up at the Fisher Group's press conference couldn't be good.
Reporters swarmed Jack. "Mr. Phillips, about what Mr. Fisher said—your company winning the North Bay project because someone leaked the Fisher Group's bid—is that true?"
"Of course not." Jack smirked. "We won the North Bay project fair and square. William's just a sore loser."
Seeing Jack's smug face, Margaret smiled mockingly.
She guessed Jack had no clue about the government's new plan for the North Bay project. It should be announced any minute now.
Margaret pulled out her phone and checked. Sure enough, the news had just dropped online.
Margaret grabbed the mic, cleared her throat, and looked straight at Jack. "Mr. Phillips, do you really think you won the North Bay project?"
"Isn't that the case?" Jack's face showed a hint of arrogance.
Even if he used dirty tricks to get the Fisher Group's bid and win the North Bay project, being the final winner was all that mattered for him.
Jack was sure William wouldn't go after Angel.
As long as William went easy on Angel, he wouldn't pursue BPL. The ultimate winner would be Jack.
Margaret said mockingly, "You probably don't know yet, but the Ravenford city government just released the latest urban plan. They're planning to build a huge industrial zone near North Bay. If I remember right, BPL's plan for the North Bay project is to build a big residential area. Who's gonna want to buy your houses then?"
After hearing Margaret's words, Jack's face changed. "You're lying! Why haven't I heard about this?"
Margaret waved her phone. "It's already online. The city government just announced it. Check it yourself."
Hearing her, everyone pulled out their phones and saw the news.
"It's true."
"Didn't expect the city government to make such a plan."
"Doesn't that mean BPL bought a piece of worthless land?"
"No wonder Mr. Fisher is so calm. That's why!"
Jack also pulled out his phone, and his face turned even paler when he saw the news. He couldn't believe he spent three billion dollars on a worthless piece of land.
Seeing Jack's colorful expression, Margaret couldn't help but smile. "Mr. Phillips, your current predicament is your own doing."
Jack's eyes bore into Margaret's face. "Ms. Scott, it's too early to say that. Three billion dollars is nothing to me. Our victory or defeat is far from decided."
"Is that so?" Margaret smiled faintly. "Then let's wait and see, Mr. Phillips."
